About Rats Animal Rescue

Rehoming Animal Telephone Service (RATS) was founded in 1984 by a group of animal lovers in Bedford who initially matched adopters and owners by telephone. Over time, the charity expanded to foster dogs, cats and small mammals in volunteers’ homes before securing permanent, vetted placements, later purchasing its own kennels near Buntingford, Hertfordshire. Cats and small mammals continue to be fostered locally, while dogs now reside at the kennels. Operating a strict policy of never euthanising a healthy animal due to lack of a home, RATS remains reliant on donations and fundraising to continue its work.

BreedCrossbreed

Our beloved Andy has been a part of the RATS Family for most of his life. Despite several attempts, he sadly hasn't yet found his pawfect home. He sees our kennels as his home and our volunteers as his furever family, but he could still be adopted if he found his ideal owner.Due to a traumatic incident in his past, Andy is paralysingly fearful of strangers. This is why he must always wear a muzzle on his walks. However once he has been introduced to you and establishes that he can trust you, he is the most loving, affectionate and gentle boy. Andy has met over a hundred people since he has been in our care, and he always remembers everyone. We're certainly in no rush to rehome our boy. He is very loved and very happy with us. He's known amongst our friends and supporters as King of the Kennels and he takes his Top Dog role very seriously, helping newbies to settle in and showing them the ropes. He's also a regular fundraiser for RATS, taking on sponsored challenges and running competitions. He's got to earn his keep after all :)I cannot live with children.I cannot live with other dogs.I cannot live with cats or small mammals.

Olive, a 3 years old female Lurcher available for adoption from RATS Animal Rescue in Hertfordshire

Olive

BreedLurcher

Olive is a lovely three year old Tuxedo cat. She plays fetch, loves endless cuddles (including occasional mid meal cuddles, before running back to her bowl) and can't get enough of relaxing next to you when she needs her space.Olive is definitely a girls girl and has been raised as an indoor cat with a family including a baby and another female cat. She is known to be very patient with small grabby hands, but might be shy as she settles into a new home. Would recommend slow and monitored introductions with new cats/small family members. She is a gorgeous, gentle, sweet girl and absolutely loves people, sitting on laps and running around to play.Olive is chipped, neutered and in great health. She is up to date on vaccines and flea/wormer. The only thing we would mention and recommend, is to get her anal glands expressed when going for any check ups as she has had them expressed previously. Having her glands expressed regularly, every 6 months to once a year, should keep that unproblematic.Other than that she may well be the most precious and perfect cat. She would be an amazing addition to a new home.If you are looking for a feline companion, Olive could be the cat for you.I can live with childrenI can live with other cats

Ruby, a 2 years old female French Bulldog available for adoption from RATS Animal Rescue in Hertfordshire

Ruby

Hertfordshire
SexFemale
Age2 years
BreedFrench Bulldog

Ruby, a very pretty little French Bulldog, came into our care recently as a stray. We don’t know her age, but we estimate that she is between one and two years old.Whilst she was a little timid when she first arrived, she has blossomed into the most affectionate, loving companion you could hope to meet. She adores people, especially when treats and cuddles are on offer. We have also discovered that Ruby loves playing with toys. She has become particularly attached to a little rubber bone toy, which she will chew for ages and she is a huge fan of a game of tug-of-war or fetch.Ruby is okay with other dogs as long as they leave her alone. She can get a little cross with other dogs if they pester her and as a result we think she would prefer to be the only dog in her new home – the queen of the castle, with all of the attention and playtime to herself. As we don’t know anything of Ruby’s history, we are looking for an adult-only home for her, or one with slightly older dog-savvy children. We would love to find a home for Ruby where she can be the centre of her new owner’s world. A well-stocked toybox is non-negotiable, but in return you’ll gain the most devoted little shadow. Are you looking for a playful companion who is just looking for a family to love her. If so Ruby could be just the girl for you.I can live with children (aged 10 and over)I cannot live with another dogI am untested with cats and small mammals
