Our beloved Andy has been a part of the RATS Family for most of his life. Despite several attempts, he sadly hasn't yet found his pawfect home. He sees our kennels as his home and our volunteers as his furever family, but he could still be adopted if he found his ideal owner.Due to a traumatic incident in his past, Andy is paralysingly fearful of strangers. This is why he must always wear a muzzle on his walks. However once he has been introduced to you and establishes that he can trust you, he is the most loving, affectionate and gentle boy. Andy has met over a hundred people since he has been in our care, and he always remembers everyone.We're certainly in no rush to rehome our boy. He is very loved and very happy with us. He's known amongst our friends and supporters as King of the Kennels and he takes his Top Dog role very seriously, helping newbies to settle in and showing them the ropes. He's also a regular fundraiser for RATS, taking on sponsored challenges and running competitions. He's got to earn his keep after all :)I cannot live with children.I cannot live with other dogs.I cannot live with cats or small mammals.

Graff, a one year old German Shepherd Cross, recently arrived in our care from a rescue in Turkey. Despite starting life on the streets, he is the most gentle boy who loves nothing more than a few treats and a lot of fuss and attention.He is a big lad – all long gangly legs and puppyish clumsiness – but those who have met him describe him as a ‘gentle giant’ or a ‘teddy bear’. Sit down near him, give him a moment, and he’ll pad over for a cuddle – then stay right there, head resting on your lap, until he drifts off to sleep.Graff is still finding his feet with people, especially men, although who could blame him after the start he has had? But every day brings a little more confidence and a little more trust. The wonderful rescue team in Turkey who knew him first say that ‘he loves nature, walks, the sea, and simply enjoying life’.We would love to find Graff a home with another canine companion as he has always had other dogs by his side. We are also happy that Graff can live with older children who will understand that he hasn’t had the best start in life and who will give him time and space to settle into his new home.Graff has never lived in a house before, so everything about home life will be new to him. He’ll need housetraining and a good deal of patience as he learns the ropes. Lady, a beautiful seven year old German Shepherd, came into our care recently as a stray. This poor girl arrived with a nasty flea allergy, and she was very sore and itchy. Thankfully, following treatment, she is now on the mend. She has been enjoying soothing medicated baths, and her skin is healing beautifully. Every day she is looking and feeling a little more comfortable.We don’t know anything about Lady’s history, but it is obvious that she has been well fed, as she is rather tubby! We will be monitoring her diet to help her lose a bit of weight, but despite the extra pounds she is very sprightly and will happily trot around in the field.Lady has the most wonderful temperament. She is gentle, placid and endlessly friendly. She adores everyone she meets – humans and dogs alike. She has already been paired up with another large dog at the kennels and they are getting on wonderfully.Whilst Lady would be perfectly happy as an only dog, she’d also thrive with a canine companion, subject to careful introductions at our kennels in Buntingford. We are happy that Lady can live with children too, but would prefer older children who will give her time and space to settle in to her new home.All Lady is asking for is a cosy bed, some gentle walks, and someone who will finally give her the love she has been missing. Gorgeous lurcher Larry came into our care recently as a stray. We don’t know his age, but we estimate that he is between one and two years old.When he arrived he was a little underweight and understandably wary of the world, but he has captured everybody’s hearts with his kind eyes and gentle nature. Larry really is a typical lurcher, who loves stretching his long legs in glorious zoomies around the field. Once playtime is over he loves to stretch out on the sofa and he adores fuss and attention.Larry recently spent time in a foster home, where he was living with two children. He was a total star in his foster home, sleeping downstairs happily all night. He has also been crate trained so that he has his own space to rest. He really enjoyed his walks and, in typical lurcher fashion, was happy to spend most of the day snoozing.Larry is quite accepting of the other dogs at the kennels and he seems to get on particularly well with our smaller residents. We feel that he may be able to live with another calm dog, subject to careful introductions at our kennels in Buntingford. As he has such a placid nature we are happy that he can live with children.This gentle, affectionate boy has so much love to give to the right family; all he is asking for is a warm sofa to call his own, lots of cuddles and the knowledge that he is finally home.I can live with childrenI can potentially live with another calm dogI cannot live with cats and small mammals

Olive, a stunning brindle lurcher, arrived in our care recently through no fault of her own. At less than a year old, this gorgeous girl is full of life, full of love, and absolutely bursting with potential.This beautiful young lady literally brims with joy and greets everyone she meets with a wagging tail and a happy smile. Olive isn’t much more than a puppy and her new owners will need to be aware that she is extremely bouncy and she does still jump up. She is still mastering her manners, as all youngsters are, and she thinks the whole world is one big adventure – so she’ll need some patient lead training and gentle guidance as she grows. However, once she’s had her zoomies and some play in the field, she turns into the best sofa companion who just loves snuggling up for cuddles.Olive hasn’t shown any signs of reactivity towards other dogs, but as she gets a bit too over excited when she plays we think she would do best as the only dog in her new home. She would be perfectly suited to a home with older children who will love joining in with her adventures and won’t mind her exuberant personality.Do you have the time, the energy and the love to give this special girl the happy new life she deserves? Paddy is an adorable little Parson Russell Terrier who sadly came into our care following the death of his owner.Paddy’s favourite thing in the world is a tennis ball and he would play all day given the chance. However, he can get a little possessive over his toys. He does sometimes snap if something is taken away from him and this has resulted in a couple of nips. Although he loves the company of people, he isn’t the biggest fan of cuddles. He suffers from a skin condition, which is being managed through his diet, and this makes him a little sensitive to touch – so he’s certainly not your classic lap dog. Rather than a snuggler, he’s more of a devoted companion who’ll be right there beside you, doing life with you, but on his terms.Paddy loves his walks and generally he walks well on the lead. However, he can be reactive towards other dogs when he is out and about. He has been working with a behaviourist and he’s making brilliant progress. We will continue that support in Paddy’s new home and we are sure that with a patient and understanding owner by his side, he will go from strength to strength.We feel that Paddy would thrive in an active adult only home with no other pets where he can enjoy undivided love and attention. We are also looking for an owner who has experience of feisty terriers; someone who is looking for a companion to enjoy long country walks and playtime rather than cuddles on the sofa.Are you looking for a playful and lively little companion who just needs to find someone who will understand his terrier complexities? Sadie, the most affectionate Staffy X, arrived in our care recently as a stray. We don’t know her age, but we think she is less than a year old, so she’s just a baby. From the moment she arrived it became very clear that she had one mission – to make friends with absolutely everybody she met! It wasn’t a hard job – within days this gorgeous girl had wrapped herself around every single heart in the kennels and she’s showing no signs of stopping.Sadie’s tail never stops wagging and her favourite thing is a game in the field, followed closely by cuddles on the sofa. As long as she has your undivided attention, she is a happy girl. She already knows how to sit, so someone out there gave her a start. She’s bright and eager to learn, so training this girl is going to be an absolute joy.As we don’t know anything of Sadie’s history, we are looking for an adult-only home for her, where she can be the one and only dog, soaking up every scrap of love and attention on offer. She has had some on-lead introductions to other dogs at the kennels and she’s been an absolute star – but we want to give her the best chance of settling in safely, and that means a home that’s all hers.She doesn’t need much. A cosy sofa and a garden to tear around in and, most importantly, someone who’ll let her be their snuggle partner and their reason to smile every morning.Are you ready to give a forever home to this total cuddle monster with the biggest heart, maximum zest for life and so much love to give?
