Hello, my name is Eve. I was found on Christmas Eve, abandoned on a remote beach with nothing to keep me safe. That is how I got my name. I was only a young girl, but I had already learned to be afraid. Afraid of people. Afraid of hands. Afraid of the world getting too close. I cannot tell you what happened to me before I was rescued, but maybe I do not need to. You can see it in the way I move carefully, in the way I watch before I trust, in the way I need time before I am brave. Since coming into rescue, I have been trying. I now walk on a lead. I come for treats. I am learning that people can be kind, even if I still find them a little scary. My steps forward are small, but for me they are huge. What makes me feel safest is other dogs. I love them. I understand them. I follow their confidence when I cannot find my own.
