About Homeless Hounds

Homeless Hounds is a volunteer-led dog rescue charity dedicated to saving stray and abandoned dogs at risk once their council-funded kennel period ends. Working primarily with kennels on the Fylde Coast in Lancashire, the charity steps in to prevent the unnecessary euthanasia of healthy dogs by securing places of safety, foster care, and onward rescue placements across the UK. Homeless Hounds relies entirely on public donations and fundraising, with unpaid trustees ensuring funds go directly toward veterinary care, boarding, and transport for dogs in need. Supported by a committed network of volunteers and foster families, the charity focuses on rehabilitation and rehoming to give vulnerable dogs a second chance at life.

Arnold, a Unknown old male Crossbreed available for adoption from Homeless Hounds in Lancashire

Homeless Hounds

Arnold

Lancashire
SexMale
AgeUnknown
BreedCrossbreed

Arnold has spent time away from the kennels and this is what his fosterer has to say about him:Arnold is a young handsome big lad who loves nothing more than snuggling up to his humans. He sometimes forgets his size and sees himself as a lapdog trying to sit on your knee. Arnold is a big boisterous vocal boy who loves to play with his toys. He sometimes forgets his manners when he meets new people and will jump up. He definitely needs to be the only pet in the home.Arnold is very loyal to his humans. He is house trained and can be left for up to 4-5 hours home alone. During that time he snoozes and chills out. Arnold loves a car ride and travels well. Arnold enjoys his walks – he shows reactivity on the lead and requires continued training help with this.Arnold is a lovable character who would best suit an adult only pet free home.

Benny, a 4 years old male Bulldog available for adoption from Homeless Hounds in Lancashire

Benny

Lancashire
SexMale
Age4 years
BreedBulldog

Benny is new to Homeless Hounds and is under assessment. You can still apply for Benny but be aware at this stage we don’t know what type of home he will require.Benny is a young Frenchie who came in to us from the pound as an unclaimed stray.Benny is a lovely boy and enjoys nothing better than to sit with his human and have lots of cuddles. He has some very endearing ways and is very sweet natured and very laid back if he has company. He does suffer from some separation anxiety and needs a patient owner who is around for most of the day who will help him overcome his anxiety about being left on his own.Benny likes sleeping with and resting his head his human before going to sleep. At present he finds it difficult to settle and sleep on his own. Benny loves his walks and gets very excited. However, he does know basic commands and will stop and wait at the curb side if asked to do so. He is vocal when he sees other dogs but his response to seeing other dogs seems to stem from excitement as opposed to aggression but we will be further testing this. For the time being we would be rehoming Benny as an only dog.Benny loves ball games and is happy to have a good play in the garden – although he isn’t great at retrieving and returning the ball as yet. Benny may need a little help with his toilet training until he settles in.

Brock is new to Homeless Hounds & is under assessment. You can still apply for Brock but be aware at this stage we don’t know what type of home he will require.Brock is a friendly boy who loves his humans and greets everyone with excitement. He travels well in the car and was recently taken to the vets and was happy to sit in his crate with no issues. We can only presume at the moment that he has been house trained due Brock doing his toilet outside the kennels. While out on his walks, Brock is very strong on the lead and will pull to where he wants to go. He loves his treats which should make his lead training a little easier with time and patience from his new owner. As you can see from the video below, Brock showed no signs of reacting while walking past the kennels. He has recently met a dog from a distance and seemed like he wanted to say hello. As we gain more information about Brock we will update the website, thank you.

Dottie, a 12 years old female Crossbreed available for adoption from Homeless Hounds in Lancashire

Homeless Hounds

Dottie

Lancashire
SexFemale
Age12 years
BreedCrossbreed

Dottie is new to Homeless Hounds and has gone straight into a lovely foster home, this is what her foster mummy has to say about her:Dottie is 12 years old and loves people. She is beautifully marked with a shiny coat and we suspect she is crossed with a cocker spaniel. She is a striking looking dog. The previous owners say Dottie was fine with their grandchildren. She was allowed to sit on beds and sofas but this has not been permitted in the foster home as It would be a cause of jealousy between her and the fosterer’s dogs.Dottie was never walked so going on walks now is very exciting for her, but her paws are very soft so walks need to be increased gradually till her pads harden up. When the walk starts she pulls on the lead but soon settles down once she starts to use her nose and sniff things. For a dog that hasn’t been walked much recently, she isn’t nervous of being outside and likes to explore. She was reported as being afraid of fireworks but this may be a thing of the past because her hearing has deteriorated. Of course, being hard of hearing she does not have any recall, although in the house and garden she will come to you if she can see you or come to a loud handclap which she seems able to hear. She is 16 kgs which is a good weight for her.She is currently living with a male Schnauzer and a female Cavapoo but we think she is best rehomed as the only dog. The fosterer has found that for Dotty food (hers or humans eating human food) can be a source of conflict between her and other dogs. She is non reactive to other dogs whilst out on walks. She loves going in the car. Be aware though that she would leap into any open car door you pass on the street. She also makes a leap to get in the car as soon as you open the door and likewise on exiting and this is a work in progress. In the car she travels in a crate as she gets excited and ties herself in knots in the doggy seat belt. Without proper restraint she will jump into the front or the boot or out of the window if open. She can jump over a 3 feet 6 inch fence to go exploring so needs a secure garden.Dottie is reported to have lived with a cat. We have not tried her with cats in the home but when one runs past us outside she reacts like she would like to give chase if she wasn’t on a lead. Dottie shows separation anxiety and gets distressed and will bark if left. This is lessening overtime but it will take time for Dottie to be comfortable being left on her own. Dottie follows you from room to room at present and wants to be curled up near your feet or by your side to feel settled and safe. This applies in the car as well and she gets worried and barks if you leave her in the car alone.

Echo, a 3 years old female Lurcher available for adoption from Homeless Hounds in Lancashire

Homeless Hounds

Echo

Lancashire
SexFemale
Age3 years
BreedLurcher

Echo is a beautiful, kind and gentle but energetic Saluki lurcher, she is approximately 3 years old. She is very scared of all people and bolts to get away. She LOVES all other dogs and would like a canine friend in her new home who will run around with her and give her the confidence she lacks around people and out and about on walks. She really does want to be with people and can be easily handled (once caught!) But is very frightened by close contact. She is house trained but does have ‘accidents’ if left alone too long or frightened by loud noises etc. She would like a new home with calm people who have lots of patience and a regular routine. I don’t think she’d do well living with children as sudden fast movements really frighten her and so does lots of noise. She is very spooked out on a walk and tries to run away from things that frighten her so won’t be able to be let off the lead. She has low prey drive and good food manners. She would love a large garden in her new home with lots of room for her and her new doggie friend to chase around in. It would need very secure high fencing with no escape holes as at first, whilst still settling in she will try to escape when she’s frightened, she likes trees and bushes to hide behind so she can watch people without being too close. When you have eventually gained Echo’s trust she tolerates being stroked and I think one day she’ll grow to really enjoy it. With the company of another dog she will settle down on the sofa as long as people sit still and aren’t too close. In time Echo will make the right person a loyal companion and will enjoy playing games with them too.

Florence, a 7 years old female Boxer available for adoption from Homeless Hounds in Lancashire

Homeless Hounds

Florence

Lancashire
SexFemale
Age7 years
BreedBoxer

Go with the Flo!Florence is currently in foster care. She has settled in quickly and is a soft gentle girl. She is fully house trained and can be left home alone for a couple hours with no issues. Flo enjoys playing with her toys. Flo is happy to meet visitors and definitely encourages them to stroke/cuddle her. She’s a lovely gentle girl looking for her forever home.Florence is a beautiful, affectionate girl who will do anything for a treat. If she sniffs out treats in your pocket, she will nudge your pocket and give you the big puppy dog eyes until you give in. Although we think she is partially deaf, she is well trained and knows lots of commands, such as sit, paw and wait. She loves to be kissed and cuddled and craves human contact. If you want a dog to snuggle with on the sofa in the evenings, Flo’s your girl.Florence sometimes barks whilst out walking to let everyone know she’s around. We think this is just excitement and feel this will subside as she gains confidence and stability in a routine. Florence can be quite strong on the lead and pull a bit initially, but once she calms, she walks nicely.Unfortunately Flo is not dog friendly and will have to be the only dog in the home.

Larry, a 6 years old male Lurcher available for adoption from Homeless Hounds in Lancashire

Homeless Hounds

Larry

Lancashire
SexMale
Age6 years
BreedLurcher

Larry is new to Homeless Hounds & is under assessment. You can still apply for this handsome boy but be aware at this stage we don’t know what type of home he will require.Larry is very lovable 5-6 year old lurcher boy. He is very sociable and loves every human he meets. He is already a firm favourite at the vets. When he was collected after being neutered and having 3 teeth removed his tail was wagging even though he must have been bewildered. The staff in the vets surgery love him and he had apparently been rolling on his back before the op and having his tummy tickled. He walks well on the lead and appears to be non reactive to other dogs. On his walks he has been walked near other dogs and ignored them as he is more focussed on his beloved human! He likes to stop on his walks for a cuddle which he loves… he especially likes being rubbed around his neck – he closes his eyes then and very nearly falls asleep! He loves treats & praise and doesn’t appear to have any issues around food.He can be very lively and will jump up in enthusiasm when he gets visitors to his kennel but it’s all very good natured. We think he could be a secret counter surfer given the chance – he was recently spotted reaching up to shelving above his sleeping area in his kennel and pulling all the spare blankets down in to his bed!

Maverick, a 6 months old male German Shepherd available for adoption from Homeless Hounds in Lancashire

Homeless Hounds

Maverick

Lancashire
SexMale
Age6 months
BreedGerman Shepherd

Maverick is a 2 and a half year old German Shepherd cross who is looking for a new home due to the owner’s changed circumstances. He’s a handsome good natured lad who is currently living outdoors in a kennel so his toilet training will need a bit of fine tuning. Maverick is a live wire and can be giddy and excitable. But he has bags of potential and for a breed experienced owner willing to invest time in his training, he will make a a fantastic and loyal companion.Whilst Maverick has lived with two other smaller dogs, he is fairly giddy and excitable and outside the home is reactive when he sees other dogs coming his way. Whilst Maverick is a friendly chap his exuberance means that he will jump up and for that reason he needs a home where any children are older teenagers. He could easily knock little ones over in his excitement. He can be strong on the lead initially but after a while settles down and walks well. However a physically strong new owner is an absolute must as he will pull strongly when he sees other dogs.

Maya, a 8 years old female Bulldog available for adoption from Homeless Hounds in Lancashire

Homeless Hounds

Maya

Lancashire
SexFemale
Age8 years
BreedBulldog

Maya is an 8 year old super friendly French Bull Dog. She has been lucky enough to bag herself a wonderful foster home and has settled in well. Maya is the prefect mix of being energetic enough to enjoy a decent walk but loves nothing more than a snuggle on the sofa with her favourite person at the end of the day. She waits to be invited on to the sofa and likes to have a blanket on her seat to snuggle into. Maya loves her food and her favourite treats are hot dogs and cheese.Maya sleeps in her crate with the door open in her foster home but is equally happy to sleep in a bed when on her holidays! Maya is non destructive and doesn’t really play with toys but she does keep her chew at a safe place at the top of the stairs, just in case she needs it later! She sleeps in the kitchen diner and sleeps through the night but as soon as she hears movement in the morning, she is desperate to see who is up and say hello. Maya loves all humans and everyone who comes to the house is her friend. She is good with children. Her favourite hobbies are doing zoomies in the garden. She can be a little excitable in the car but soon calms down as the journey gets going. She is a little too interested in cats to be considered cat friendly and also takes a keen interest in our guinea pigs. We think she’s best rehomed where there are no small furries.Maya can be left for 4-5 hours at a time but no longer and is non destructive. Whilst Maya has lived with other dogs in the past, she is best as the only dog in the home. She is reactive to other dogs when on her walks and is very vocal when she sees other dogs. We think that she would benefit from some training to help her in this respect. However as soon as she passes the dog she resumes walking well on her lead and likes to trot in front. Maya hates the rain so is a fair weather walker only! Maya is a lovely little dog and will be a fabulous pet for someone with the time to do some training with her to help her with her reactivity to other dogs.

Molly, a 8 years old female Shih Tzu available for adoption from Homeless Hounds in Lancashire

Molly

Lancashire
SexFemale
Age8 years
BreedShih Tzu

Molly is an 8 year old shihtsu who has come in to us through no fault of her own. She is currently in a foster home and this is what her foster mum has told us about her.Molly is very loving with humans and loves to welcome everyone in the home. She is very good with the fosterer’s grandchildren who are 11 and 15 years old. She has seemed to gravitate more to the female in the house and will sit and wait patiently until her mum returns from work. However Molly does have a stubborn side and will dig her heels in if she is required to do something she doesn’t want to do! If she doesn’t want to be picked up she will growl and if you continue she can snap. Any applicants must bear in mind this behaviour trait before applying.Outside the house Molly can be reactive to dogs she meets on her walks as she will bark at them but this is being contained by Molly being asked to sit and wait calmly for the dog to pass with plenty of praise being given to her. Her fosterer reports that this behaviour seems to be diminishing so any applicant must be willing to continue with Molly’s socialisation. She sleeps well in her own crate upstairs near to her foster mum and is house trained.
