About Homeless Hounds

Homeless Hounds is a volunteer-led dog rescue charity dedicated to saving stray and abandoned dogs at risk once their council-funded kennel period ends. Working primarily with kennels on the Fylde Coast in Lancashire, the charity steps in to prevent the unnecessary euthanasia of healthy dogs by securing places of safety, foster care, and onward rescue placements across the UK. Homeless Hounds relies entirely on public donations and fundraising, with unpaid trustees ensuring funds go directly toward veterinary care, boarding, and transport for dogs in need. Supported by a committed network of volunteers and foster families, the charity focuses on rehabilitation and rehoming to give vulnerable dogs a second chance at life.

Arnold, a Unknown old male Crossbreed available for adoption from Homeless Hounds in Lancashire

Homeless Hounds

Arnold

Lancashire
SexMale
AgeUnknown
BreedCrossbreed

Arnold has spent time away from the kennels and this is what his fosterer has to say about him:Arnold is a young handsome big lad who loves nothing more than snuggling up to his humans. He sometimes forgets his size and sees himself as a lapdog trying to sit on your knee. Arnold is a big boisterous vocal boy who loves to play with his toys. He sometimes forgets his manners when he meets new people and will jump up. He definitely needs to be the only pet in the home.Arnold is very loyal to his humans. He is house trained and can be left for up to 4-5 hours home alone. During that time he snoozes and chills out. Arnold loves a car ride and travels well. Arnold enjoys his walks – he shows reactivity on the lead and requires continued training help with this.Arnold is a lovable character who would best suit an adult only pet free home.

Ben, a 3 years old male Staffordshire Bull Terrier available for adoption from Homeless Hounds in Lancashire

Ben

Lancashire
SexMale
Age3 years
BreedStaffordshire Bull Terrier

Meet Ben – our Boxer/Staffie cross looking for his forever home.Ben is a young lad of around three years old who hasn’t had the easiest start. Through no fault of his own, he’s found himself in our kennels twice already. He struggles in kennels and exhibits some of the bad habits he has picked up in his previous home.Ben has spent plenty of time in a volunteer’s home, and he settles beautifully. He relaxes quickly and starts to exhibit the great dog he can be with the right level of structure and training. He loves human and wants to please and be rewarded. He enjoys a game of ball in the garden and definitely enjoys cuddling with humans. He is reactive to dogs walking in and out of the kennels but isn’t reactive outdoors on a walk. We feel Ben is dog friendly, but would need careful introductions. On the lead he can be protective of his handler and we know this can be improved with correct training. Overall he walks well on the lead and we know he has had some previous training in this area.Ben will make a great companion for the right person who is prepared to continue his training and provide him with structure and discipline as well as affection.

Benny, a 4 years old male Bulldog available for adoption from Homeless Hounds in Lancashire

Homeless Hounds

Benny

Lancashire
SexMale
Age4 years
BreedBulldog

Benny is new to Homeless Hounds and is under assessment. You can still apply for Benny but be aware at this stage we don’t know what type of home he will require.Benny is a young Frenchie who came in to us from the pound as an unclaimed stray.Benny is a lovely boy and enjoys nothing better than to sit with his human and have lots of cuddles. He has some very endearing ways and is very sweet natured and very laid back if he has company. He does suffer from some separation anxiety and needs a patient owner who is around for most of the day who will help him overcome his anxiety about being left on his own.Benny likes sleeping with and resting his head his human before going to sleep. At present he finds it difficult to settle and sleep on his own. Benny loves his walks and gets very excited. However, he does know basic commands and will stop and wait at the curb side if asked to do so. He is vocal when he sees other dogs but his response to seeing other dogs seems to stem from excitement as opposed to aggression but we will be further testing this. For the time being we would be rehoming Benny as an only dog.Benny loves ball games and is happy to have a good play in the garden – although he isn’t great at retrieving and returning the ball as yet. Benny may need a little help with his toilet training until he settles in.

Brock

BreedSoft Coated Wheaten Terrier

Brock is new to Homeless Hounds & is under assessment. You can still apply for Brock but be aware at this stage we don’t know what type of home he will require.Brock is a friendly boy who loves his humans and greets everyone with excitement. He travels well in the car and was recently taken to the vets and was happy to sit in his crate with no issues. We can only presume at the moment that he has been house trained due Brock doing his toilet outside the kennels. While out on his walks, Brock is very strong on the lead and will pull to where he wants to go. He loves his treats which should make his lead training a little easier with time and patience from his new owner. As you can see from the video below, Brock showed no signs of reacting while walking past the kennels. He has recently met a dog from a distance and seemed like he wanted to say hello. As we gain more information about Brock we will update the website, thank you.

Buddy, a 3 years old male Unknown available for adoption from Homeless Hounds in Lancashire

Buddy

Lancashire
SexMale
Age3 years
BreedUnknown

Buddy is new to Homeless Hounds and is under assessment. You can still apply for this handsome boy but be aware at this stage we don’t know what type of home he will require.Information about Buddy is limited at the moment until we get to know him. All we know so far:Buddy is a 3 year old Bullbreed, he is a boisterous and playful young boy. Buddy is strong on the lead and ideally, successful applicants will have previous Bullbreed experience. Buddy unfortunately can’t be rehomed to a family with small children, only children 12 years and above please.Buddy can be reactive to dogs when on a lead – he is also spooked by E- bikes! He is easily distractable though but nevertheless we strongly recommend that he is muzzled when out in public areas.Buddy seems to prefer women to men but we are sure that with time and patience he would live happily with a male owner.

Elsie, a 2 years old female Greyhound available for adoption from Homeless Hounds in Lancashire

Homeless Hounds

Elsie

Lancashire
SexFemale
Age2 years
BreedGreyhound

Elsie is new to Homeless Hounds & is under assessment, you can still apply for this beautiful girl but be aware at this stage we are still getting to know her.Elsie is nearly 2 years old and is a delightful greyhound type girl. She is very friendly and has a lovely nature, she loves humans and will take all the attention she can get. She is a statuesque dog and as a youngster can be lively so she’s probably best in a home where any children are a little older.Outside Elsie appears to be dog friendly although she can be very lively and enthusiastic in her play with other dogs. She walks well on the lead and so far has been non reactive to other dogs.In the home she can be left for up to 4 hours, and she loves to play with shoes. As with all sighthounds we wouldn’t rehome Elsie in a home where there were any cats or small furries.

Florence, a 7 years old female Boxer available for adoption from Homeless Hounds in Lancashire

Homeless Hounds

Florence

Lancashire
SexFemale
Age7 years
BreedBoxer

Go with the Flo!Florence is currently in foster care. She has settled in quickly and is a soft gentle girl. She is fully house trained and can be left home alone for a couple hours with no issues. Flo enjoys playing with her toys. Flo is happy to meet visitors and definitely encourages them to stroke/cuddle her. She’s a lovely gentle girl looking for her forever home.Florence is a beautiful, affectionate girl who will do anything for a treat. If she sniffs out treats in your pocket, she will nudge your pocket and give you the big puppy dog eyes until you give in. Although we think she is partially deaf, she is well trained and knows lots of commands, such as sit, paw and wait. She loves to be kissed and cuddled and craves human contact. If you want a dog to snuggle with on the sofa in the evenings, Flo’s your girl.Florence sometimes barks whilst out walking to let everyone know she’s around. We think this is just excitement and feel this will subside as she gains confidence and stability in a routine. Florence can be quite strong on the lead and pull a bit initially, but once she calms, she walks nicely.Unfortunately Flo is not dog friendly and will have to be the only dog in the home.

Larry, a 6 years old male Lurcher available for adoption from Homeless Hounds in Lancashire

Homeless Hounds

Larry

Lancashire
SexMale
Age6 years
BreedLurcher

Larry is very lovable 5-6 year old lurcher boy. He is very sociable and loves every human he meets. He is already a firm favourite at the vets. When he was collected after being neutered and having 3 teeth removed his tail was wagging even though he must have been bewildered. The staff in the vets surgery love him and he had apparently been rolling on his back before the op and having his tummy tickled. He walks well on the lead and appears to be non reactive to other dogs. On his walks he has been walked near other dogs and ignored them as he is more focussed on his beloved human! He likes to stop on his walks for a cuddle which he loves… he especially likes being rubbed around his neck – he closes his eyes then and very nearly falls asleep! He loves treats & praise and doesn’t appear to have any issues around food.He can be very lively and will jump up in enthusiasm when he gets visitors to his kennel but it’s all very good natured. We think he could be a secret counter surfer given the chance – he was recently spotted reaching up to shelving above his sleeping area in his kennel and pulling all the spare blankets down in to his bed!

Mars, a 4 years old male Unknown available for adoption from Homeless Hounds in Lancashire

Homeless Hounds

Mars

Lancashire
SexMale
Age4 years
BreedUnknown

Mars is looking for a new home due to a change in his owner’s circumstances.Mars can be an anxious boy at times and we feel that he will be best suited to a confident adult only family, so that he can relax and gain his confidence.Out on walks, Mars is friendly with other dogs and enjoys a chase around with his regular buddies. His recall isn’t great if he spots another dog to play with but he can go off the lead in appropriate areas and with consistent reward based training and practice, his recall is bound to improve. He does pull on the lead initially and then settles down once he’s in his stride, enjoying all the sniffs and peemails. Whilst Mars may want to interact with other dogs on walks, but he isn’t interested in going over to other humans, and he doesn’t chase wildlife or runners or bicycles. Loud noises, such as bangs, busy playgrounds, cafes etc can make Mars anxious and then he just wants to go home. Taking Mars to quiet places until he builds trust in you and confidence in himself, will do him wonders. In the car, Mars sits in the footwell and is a nervous traveller – he hasn’t had much travel training, so this is something that you could work on with him.Mars could possibly share his new home with a confident dog, with careful introductions, personal space and a solid routine. At home, Mars loves to play with his ball. He’s gentle mouthed and drops it when asked. All the other toys Mars has been given, have gone to toy heaven in no time, courtesy of his shredding abilities! Otherwise, Mars is non-destructive, he’s never chewed anything that doesn’t belong to him. Mars has always been allowed to sit on the furniture and he has been used to sleeping on his owner’s bed. Please consider this if you would prefer a dog that doesn’t jump onto furniture. Mars is also crate trained and he’ll go into his crate to eat a chew bone etc.In is previous home, Mars was protective of his owner and liked to bark at all the people passing by the window.Once Mars has settled into your home and routine, he can be left home alone for a few hours and uses that opportunity for a good snooze. Like many dogs, Mars is not a fan of the hoover and will run into another room to put some distance between him and the scary machine.Mars knows some of the basic training skills, like ā€˜sit’, ā€˜wait’, ā€˜stop’, and his recall ā€˜Mars here’. He enjoys a tasty training treat, which will make future training easier, and he takes his treats really gently.

Maverick, a 6 months old male German Shepherd available for adoption from Homeless Hounds in Lancashire

Homeless Hounds

Maverick

Lancashire
SexMale
Age6 months
BreedGerman Shepherd

Maverick is a 2 and a half year old German Shepherd cross who is looking for a new home due to the owner’s changed circumstances. He’s a handsome good natured lad who is currently living outdoors in a kennel so his toilet training will need a bit of fine tuning. Maverick is a live wire and can be giddy and excitable. But he has bags of potential and for a breed experienced owner willing to invest time in his training, he will make a a fantastic and loyal companion.Whilst Maverick has lived with two other smaller dogs, he is fairly giddy and excitable and outside the home is reactive when he sees other dogs coming his way. Whilst Maverick is a friendly chap his exuberance means that he will jump up and for that reason he needs a home where any children are older teenagers. He could easily knock little ones over in his excitement. He can be strong on the lead initially but after a while settles down and walks well. However a physically strong new owner is an absolute must as he will pull strongly when he sees other dogs.

Maya, a 8 years old female Bulldog available for adoption from Homeless Hounds in Lancashire

Homeless Hounds

Maya

Lancashire
SexFemale
Age8 years
BreedBulldog

Maya is an 8 year old super friendly French Bull Dog. She has been lucky enough to bag herself a wonderful foster home and has settled in well. Maya is the prefect mix of being energetic enough to enjoy a decent walk but loves nothing more than a snuggle on the sofa with her favourite person at the end of the day. She waits to be invited on to the sofa and likes to have a blanket on her seat to snuggle into. Maya loves her food and her favourite treats are hot dogs and cheese.Maya sleeps in her crate with the door open in her foster home but is equally happy to sleep in a bed when on her holidays! Maya is non destructive and doesn’t really play with toys but she does keep her chew at a safe place at the top of the stairs, just in case she needs it later! She sleeps in the kitchen diner and sleeps through the night but as soon as she hears movement in the morning, she is desperate to see who is up and say hello. Maya loves all humans and everyone who comes to the house is her friend. She is good with children. Her favourite hobbies are doing zoomies in the garden. She can be a little excitable in the car but soon calms down as the journey gets going. She is a little too interested in cats to be considered cat friendly and also takes a keen interest in our guinea pigs. We think she’s best rehomed where there are no small furries.Maya can be left for 4-5 hours at a time but no longer and is non destructive. Whilst Maya has lived with other dogs in the past, she is best as the only dog in the home. She is reactive to other dogs when on her walks and is very vocal when she sees other dogs. We think that she would benefit from some training to help her in this respect. However as soon as she passes the dog she resumes walking well on her lead and likes to trot in front. Maya hates the rain so is a fair weather walker only! Maya is a lovely little dog and will be a fabulous pet for someone with the time to do some training with her to help her with her reactivity to other dogs.
