About Strays Without Borders

Strays Without Borders is a UK-registered non-profit dedicated to rescuing and rehoming vulnerable dogs, with a primary focus on those in Macedonia where abandonment, abuse and road accidents are widespread. Working in partnership with trusted local rescues, the organisation ensures dogs receive care, socialisation and rehabilitation before travelling to the UK. Dogs are rehomed nationwide with thorough home checks and ongoing support provided to fosterers and adopters. By fostering or adopting, supporters directly enable the charity to rescue and help even more dogs still waiting for their second chance.

Aleksandra, a 6 years old female Crossbreed available for adoption from Strays Without Borders in North Macedonia

Strays Without Borders

Aleksandra

North Macedonia
SexFemale
Age6 years
BreedCrossbreed

Aleksandra is a mid-sized dog that has a kind heart but requires a human touch to gain complete trust in people. This sweet girl has been through a lot, but despite this she does not show any aggressive behaviour, only a slight cautiousness of people she does not know. Aleksandra was run over by a car and as a result broke pelvis. The vets said she would never walk again, but Aleksandra was having none of that! She was back on her feet in 2 weeks and hasn’t stopped running and playing since. Usually when she is in an open space will be cautious and not come to close to people. However, in a confined space though (in her kennel), she lets people approach her. This is purely due to her being scared from her trauma – she will flourish and grow confidence in a home environment with just a little bit of love. She is good with other dogs.

Berta, a Unknown old female Crossbreed available for adoption from Strays Without Borders in North Macedonia

Strays Without Borders

Berta

North Macedonia
SexFemale
AgeUnknown
BreedCrossbreed

Berta and her sister were dumped on the roadside as puppies. A kind man found them and decided to foster them until their forever homes could be found. The girls grew into beautiful large dogs, believed to be Kangal crosses. One of them has already found her home, leaving Berta still in foster care. Berta is a very loyal girl. As her nature suggests, she is a working breed and will guard her territory. She loves her big foster brother and very much enjoys pushing his buttons. They can play all day and enjoy rough play together. Berta is now a strong and independent young woman and, as such, has selective hearing. She has escaped from the garden on occasion, so she will need a very secure garden with fencing of at least two metres. Berta has not been kind to the neighbours’ chickens, so she must not be homed with small animals. She loves people and greatly enjoys walks with her foster parents and her foster brother. She would thrive in a rural type of home with plenty of space and nature, and with someone who values a dog that helps keep the home safe. Due to her size, Berta would be best suited to an adult only home. She would do best living with another large dog who could become her forever brother. A home with a male dog would be preferred, as Berta has a dominant character and was rougher with her sister.

Camila is an absolute joy of a dog. She loves everyone she meets, and how she ended up on the streets is beyond us. This girl came to us after testing positive for leishmania, although she shows no symptoms. Unfortunately, this could have meant euthanasia for her, but we stepped in to prevent that. She has so much joy, eagerness, and positivity in her that we will not allow her life to be cut short when she can still live a long, happy life and bring so much happiness to the family who chooses to adopt her. Camila gets on well with everyone. She can live with other dogs, cats, and children. Rescue backup is provided.

Dora, a 5 years old female Labrador available for adoption from Strays Without Borders in Leicestershire

Strays Without Borders

Dora

Leicestershire
SexFemale
Age5 years
BreedLabrador

Born May 2020, 23Kg, neutered, chipped, vaccinated, Lab mix female. She is a wonderful dog and has brought her owners lots of happiness. However they couldn’t keep her due to them planning a family and Dora not being suitable around kids. Since, Dora has spent 2 years in kennels waiting for someone to adopt her, without any success. She is incredibly clever, learns commands very quickly and LOVES to play! She is such a playful and happy girl and has her owners laughing every day with her cheeky personality. She travels well in the car, can be left at home alone. She used to enjoy playing with other like minded bouncy doggies, but since being in kennels has become quite reactive to other animals. She shows signs of fear based aggression and can be reactive to humans. Visitors can be managed once she knows people well, and she eventually does form close bonds with others outside of her family. She cannot be homed with children due to her reactivity and general bounciness. She is also very fearful of cats. Dora has undergone behavioural training for guarding food and spaces and has shown improvement with this. She’s an absolute joy, and anyone would be very lucky to have her. We are looking for a home with experienced dog owners who are able to manage fear reactivity. Dora needs to be homed as an only pet as she’s become reactive to dogs while in kennels. We would also prefer a calmer household in a rural/semi-rural environment for her. Multiple meets are necessary for Dora in the kennels in Blackpool.

Ginny, a Unknown old female Crossbreed available for adoption from Strays Without Borders in North Macedonia

Strays Without Borders

Ginny

North Macedonia
SexFemale
AgeUnknown
BreedCrossbreed

Ginny is one of the less fortunate dogs who was rescued as a big puppy in the hope that we could find her a home, but she never had a home offer. She has spent years in kennels and because she never had much human contact and socialisation she is a very shy and timid girl, who will need a special home with an understanding of how to support her and help her adapt to life in a home. She will need a long time to decompress with gentle guidance and lots of patience. But seeing a dog like her blossom is so rewarding and the relation she will develop to her guardian will be exceptional and worth all the effort! The ideal home for this beautiful girl will be in quiet surroundings, no small children and with a confident, friendly resident dog she can lean on for comfort. The home must have a far sized absolutely secure garden and space enough for her to have a separate area as safe space so she can interact on her terms without any pressure. Spayed, vaccinated & microchipped

Goldie, a Unknown old female Crossbreed available for adoption from Strays Without Borders in Lancashire

Strays Without Borders

Goldie

Lancashire
SexFemale
AgeUnknown
BreedCrossbreed

Goldie is in need of a forever home. She is currently kenneled in Blackpool Goldie lived for years in a multi-dog household until her whole world came crumbling down. Her original family went through major life changes, and her mum was working very long hours while also dealing with health issues, meaning she could no longer provide the care Goldie needed. Since then, Goldie has moved between a couple of foster homes, but unfortunately neither placement was successful. She struggled with anxiety and being left alone, and all the changes became overwhelming for her, so she had to be moved into kennels. Goldie has now been in kennels for several months and is slowly adapting to her sad new reality. On the positive side, she has started to enjoy the company of the kennel staff, who have been incredibly understanding and patient with her. Once she trusts you and knows you are her friend, she will shower you with tremendous love and affection. A few words from the kennel staff: “I spent half an hour in her kennel with her yesterday while it was raining horribly, and I saw a whole new side of her. I was playing music and singing along to her, and she planted herself in my lap, grinning at me. She kept shoving her bum in my face, and she LOVES bum scratches so much that she actually fell over! She was giving me nose boops and everything. She is SO affectionate once she knows and trusts you — it’s just taken her a long time to build that level of bond with someone. Whenever we introduce her to new people, it takes multiple meets and walks because she gives ‘whale eyes’ to anyone approaching either her or her human. She definitely still has guarding instincts, but she never forgets who you are, and her people are her people through and through. She is an absolutely beautiful girl, and seeing her like that yesterday completely melted my heart.” Goldie is 5 years old and a large girl at 48kg. She is used to walking on the lead and walks nicely. Goldie can be wary of strangers and will need an experienced owner who understands dogs with guarding instincts. She would do best in a calm home with few visitors, ideally in a more rural environment. She could also benefit from having other friendly dogs in the home. With gentle introduction, Goldie could also live with a cat. Meets and greets are possible following a successful home check.

Hazel, a 4 years old female White Swiss Shepherd Dog available for adoption from Strays Without Borders in Surrey

Strays Without Borders

Hazel

Surrey
SexFemale
Age4 years
BreedWhite Swiss Shepherd Dog

Hazel was rescued as a little fluffy puppy and sadly waited so long for a home that she spent her entire youth in Macedonian kennel. When she finally was adopted, it didn’t go well and she developed fear based reactivity. But she was lucky the perfect foster home came forward for her and with their experienced and dedicated training she has made huge development. The work with Hazel is still ongoing, but she is now ready for her forever home. Hazel has developed from a shy girl into a big personality who loves running around the house with her toys. She takes time to warm up to people, but once she gets to know you, she will be your best friend. She is loyal, loving and extremely intelligent. She loves cuddles and has a cheeky, playful personality. She is very obedient, and has learnt a lot of tricks which she is eager to show off. Being a typical shepherd dog, she loves to herd and instinctively protects her home. She bonds incredibly strongly with her ‘special person’, so becomes worried when left alone for too long. Hazel has developed from a shy girl into a big personality who loves running around the house with her toys. She takes time to warm up to people, but once she gets to know you, she will be your best friend This stunning girl is a large active dog and needs around two hours of walking (or equivalent exercise) a day, and regular training sessions to keep her mentally stimulated. She can live with a resident dog as long as they’re very confident and friendly as introductions can be a challenge. Although Hazel has made loads of progress with her reactivity she can still be nervous around strangers, and she is triggered by eye contact with people she doesn’t know. She is quite reactive towards dogs she doesn’t know, but becomes very friendly and playful with them after a few slow, careful meetings. The ideal home for Hazel is a calm adults only home with experienced people who will give her the training she needs to continue gaining confidence in the world. There must be a good size secure garden so she can enjoy being outside when weather is nice, and the location should not be too urban and have good, quiet walking areas nearby. Hazel can be potential bite risk in high-stress situations (most commonly when strange dogs are too close), so she needs a physically fit handler. She also may regress in new surroundings, so it’s crucial that her adopter has experience with proper handling of reactivity. Meeting her a couple of times will be recommended so she can get to know her new family before moving again. In the right hands, this beautiful girl has the potential to be the perfect dog! Spayed, microchipped and vaccinated. Lifelong rescue back up and adopter support provided.

Jake, a 3 years old male Labrador available for adoption from Strays Without Borders in Hertfordshire

Strays Without Borders

Jake

Hertfordshire
SexMale
Age3 years
BreedLabrador

Jakes adopters have come very far with him but it turns out he needs a quieter home and we are looking for the perfect forever home or foster place for this black diamond. This gourgeous boy is an incredibly loyal and affectionate dog, who loves a fuss and wants to be close to his owners. He loves to play tug and chase balls around the garden. Whilst he does tend to resource guard some toys/items, he has made good progress in reducing this behaviour through developing trust with this owners and understanding that he doesn’t need to guard. Feeding by hand has been a good way to develop trust and continuing this will help him gain further confidence over time. He can be cautious of new people, but through proper and gradual introductions he is able to build a good level of trust and has improved so much since arriving in the UK. He needs to have his own quiet space to decompress and relax after meals; he is crate trained and will sleep there at night and various times during the day. He is an energetic dog and mental stimulation is essential for him – snuffle matts and other activity toys helps with managing his energy levels. Jakes ideal home will be a quiet household with no kids or other dogs, and owners with energy, patience and an understanding that he will need time to settle in to his new surroundings. Access to a garden and rural environment/green space is important. He needs at least two decent length walks a day, and time must be spent on training and obedience. He is only reactive towards dogs when they invade his personal space and outstay their welcome. He tends to be happy with interacting and even playing with female dogs, so socialisation is possible. It will just take time and perseverance. He is very clever and has picked up basic commands quickly, as well as making significant progress in recall and lead obedience. He will take some time to settle into his new home and may seem detached at first – this is not unusual for a rescue dog in a new environment. Jake needs people who will dedicate time and effort to continue his positive development, and he will be a fantastic dog in the right environment. Neutered, vaccinated & microchipped

Jasmine, a 8 years old female Crossbreed available for adoption from Strays Without Borders in North Macedonia

Jasmine

North Macedonia
SexFemale
Age8 years
BreedCrossbreed

Meet Jasmine who is currently kennelled in Macedonia. Jasmine was a mountain dog who was sadly struck with chronic demodex which was successfully treated. Now all that’s missing in her life is a comfortable sofa and someone to call her own. This calm and gentle soul enjoys heading out on walks to do some gentle exploring with her human companion. She also loves attention and especially loves being brushed and cuddled – her favourite feeling is being cozy and happy. She’s good with other dogs of either gender, but can be dominant around food, so it’s best that she eats seperately if she has a companion. She would get along well with a friendly canine sibling to show her the ropes. Jasmine could live with older children and with gradule introduction, a cat. Could there be a Jasmine shaped spot on your sofa?

Jockey, a Unknown old male Chow Chow available for adoption from Strays Without Borders in North Macedonia

Jockey

North Macedonia
SexMale
AgeUnknown
BreedChow Chow

Gorgeous Jockey has spent more than half of his life in the shelter. Despite this, he has kept his playful, silly nature. He is always up for a game and will keep you smiling with his funny antics. With his fluffy coat, he’s also one of the most handsome dogs around! Jockey does have a stubborn streak and likes things his own way. He can be wary of strangers and sudden movements, most likely due to being mistreated by previous owners. He isn’t a fan of the vet (no surprise there!), but once you earn his trust he is a joy to be around. He loves running and playing at the dog park, especially with his female friends, since he’s the only boy in his group. Jockey feels safe in his little kennel spot, and he would do well in a calm home with a relaxed atmosphere, not too many visitors, and a laid-back family. He can live with another dog, but will need an adult-only home. Jockey has been neutered.

Leah’s Story Leah didn’t have an easy start in life. As a puppy, she was kept on a balcony by an addict and only survived because kind neighbours managed to throw her food.Soon after, she was abandoned on the streets and not long afterwards, she became pregnant.Thankfully, caring neighbours stepped in and had her spayed immediately, but Leah was still struggling to cope with life on the streets. She would follow children around the playground, hoping someone might take her home… but no one ever did. After a short and distressing stay in a public shelter, we stepped in and moved her to kennels and shortly afterwards she was adopted by a lovely family. Unfortunately, we have now received the sad news that Leah needs to be rehomed. The family’s other dog is not coping well with her, and the current dynamics are not meeting Leah’s needs as they had hoped. About Leah Leah missed out on vital love and care in her early years. She had to learn how to survive on the streets with no food and no support, and adapting to life in a home was a big change for her.She has had to learn how to share, how to play appropriately, how to settle indoors, and how to manage her excitement without becoming nippy. Despite this difficult beginning, Leah has blossomed into a funny, affectionate 2-year-old mixed terrier with a huge personality and an even bigger heart. She is: very playful and full of curiosity highly intelligent and responsive to training eager for mental stimulation, training games, and one-to-one attention already familiar with many commands patient around food and able to wait for instruction Walks are still very exciting for her, and in those moments she can forget her training. She can also become overwhelmed in certain situations—particularly around other dogs—and does have a few specific triggers that can make her reactive. That said, with the right support, structure, and understanding, Leah has already made incredible progress and continues to improve every day. The Home She Needs Leah will thrive in a calm, consistent environment where she feels safe and secure. Ideally we are looking for: a home without other pets or children (even though she loves playing with kids. She needs consistent training and family members that can all collaborate on that) someone who can build a trusting, one-to-one bond with her (a single person or couple would be ideal) an active lifestyle that includes enrichment, training, adventure Leah absolutely adores cuddles and will happily jump into bed with her person when given the chance. She loves drying herself off on the bedsheets and snuggling under a blanket ️ We know there is someone out there who would love an energetic, intelligent girl like Leah, someone who would enjoy going on hikes with her, dedicate time to training, and provide the calm environment she needs to become the very best version of herself. Please help us share her story far and wide so we can find her the forever home she deserves! Leah is spayed, vaccinated, healthy, and comes with full Rescue Back Up.
