Barney, a 5 years old female Dachshund available for adoption from The Red Foundation in West Midlands

The Red Foundation

Barney

West Midlands
SexFemale
Age5 years
BreedDachshund

Barney is a truly lovely boy with a big heart and a love for cuddles. This affectionate little chap adores being close to his people and, once he knows you, will reward you with unwavering loyalty and companionship. He can be a little wary when meeting new people, but he simply needs a bit of time and patience to feel safe. Once he warms up, his loving nature really shines through and he becomes a devoted best friend. Barney enjoys a relaxed and happy lifestyle. He loves pottering around in the garden and soaking up the sunshine, but equally enjoys getting out for walks and having a good run around. He has good recall when out and about but can be reactive towards other dogs and will therefore need an understanding and mindful family. Earlier this year, Barney had symptoms of IVDD and this was managed with medication and rest. He is now doing well. He was previously treated for pancreatitis thought to be brought on by a food allergy and now enjoys a chicken and turkey free diet. Barney is looking for a calm, quiet home where he can feel safe and settled. He would be best suited to an adult only household, or one with older, dog-savvy children who understand his need for space when settling in. Barney needs a home where his people are around all of the time as he becomes very anxious when left alone. Barney would also benefit from living with a calm (spayed) female dachshund companion. Barney is a wonderful boy and with a little time, patience, and understanding, he will become a loyal and loving friend for life.

Cooper, a 3 years old male Dachshund available for adoption from The Red Foundation in West Midlands

The Red Foundation

Cooper

West Midlands
SexMale
Age3 years
BreedDachshund

Cooper is £450 3 years old Male, red dapple smooth mini Not neutered Cooper is a very loving mini dachshund who urgently needs to move to a forever home due to changes in circumstances in his current home. He is a stunning boy with an usual combination of one blue and one brown eye. He loves nothing more than cuddles and his favourite place is on a kind human’s lap! Cooper would love to live in a family where someone is around much of the time. At the moment he is left on his own for extended periods and has become quite barky as a result. This is typical of the breed – they love to be with people and with the right training and support (which we will provide if needed) he will quickly learn that being on his own is not a time to exercise his lungs. Outside the home, Cooper is a smart boy who likes to chase his ball, especially his scooby balls. His favourite thing is a rabbit ear, and his current owner says he knows the word and even the spelling, so he’s one smart dog! Cooper has grown up with older children and is a friendly, well-socialised dog. He could even live with a cat. Cooper is in good health, but is currently recovering from an episode of IVDD. The Red Foundation will support with medical costs for as long as this is an issue, and will discuss with potential adopters. He is making great progress and is now walking and is house-trained. Unfortunately, IVDD is always a risk with dachshunds but he has shown determination to recover and we will support him all the way.

Frankie, a 7 years old male Dachshund available for adoption from The Red Foundation in North Yorkshire

The Red Foundation

Frankie

North Yorkshire
SexMale
Age7 years
BreedDachshund

Frankie is a dog with an immense capacity for love; he is a champion cuddler who enjoys nothing more than showering his favourite people with licks and affection. While he is always up for an adventure and thoroughly enjoys his daily walks, he is equally happy to embrace his lazy side and lounge around the house for a peaceful afternoon nap. Because Frankie is a sensitive soul who experiences quite a bit of nervousness and anxiety, he requires an adult-only household or a home with children aged 13 and over who can respect and understand a dog’s boundaries. He is a vocal lad who takes his role as a lookout very seriously, frequently barking at strangers, passing cars, or unfamiliar noises outside. This protective streak extends to his walks, where he may bark at other dogs or people from a distance. Because of his reactive nature, Frankie needs to be the only pet in the home, as he struggles to integrate with other dogs. While he may be wary of new faces initially, Frankie settles beautifully once he becomes familiar with someone. He simply needs a patient, calm owner who can provide him with the routine and reassurance he craves. To ensure Frankie and his new family have the best possible start, The Red Foundation will provide ongoing behavioural support if needed. If you have a quiet home and plenty of room on your sofa for a loving, loyal friend, Frankie is ready to offer you a lifetime of devotion. With a little time and a lot of love, this charming boy will prove to be the most rewarding companion you could ask for. For more information, please email rosie@theredfoundation.org.uk

Harry, a 5 years old female Dachshund available for adoption from The Red Foundation in Wales

The Red Foundation

Harry

Wales
SexFemale
Age5 years
BreedDachshund

Harry is a beautiful boy who is now searching for a new forever home. Indoors, Harry is a delight. He is loving and enjoys being close to his people, he is non‑destructive and settles well on his own. He sleeps independently without issue, can be left for up to four hours, and travels calmly in the car. Harry is friendly with people and with dogs he already knows, and he has previously lived with another dog. He also gets on well with family dogs, though slow and careful introductions will be essential. Harry is being re‑surrendered after an incident in which he slipped his lead and bit another dog outside of the home. Because of this, he will need an adopter who is confident, patient, and committed to working with him using positive, reward‑based methods. He is not suited to busy environments such as cafés or pubs, as these situations can be overwhelming for him. We will provide ongoing behaviour support to help his new family continue his training Harry’s ideal home would include a large, secure garden where he can explore safely without the stress of encountering unfamiliar dogs. He would be best suited to adults or families with children aged 12 and over. He could potentially live with another dog, provided introductions are slow, structured, and carefully managed. Someone who understands his needs and is willing to continue working on his reactivity will help Harry thrive. Despite his challenges outdoors, Harry is a loyal, affectionate companion who will shine in the right environment.

Peggy, a 5 years old female Dachshund available for adoption from The Red Foundation in North Yorkshire

The Red Foundation

Peggy

North Yorkshire
SexFemale
Age5 years
BreedDachshund

Peggy is an exceptionally pretty young dachshund with a huge personality and an equally huge capacity for love. She is now looking for a new chapter in life where she can enjoy the calm, structured, and understanding home environment that will allow her to truly flourish. Beneath her feisty little exterior is an incredibly affectionate, loyal, and emotionally sensitive dog who forms strong bonds with her people and thrives on companionship, routine, and reassurance. Once Peggy feels safe and settled with someone, she becomes deeply devoted and wonderfully loving. She absolutely adores physical affection and will happily smother her chosen people with kisses, cuddles, and constant companionship. She enjoys curling up under blankets, snoozing on laps, and being close to her humans whenever possible. At the same time, she is still a young dachshund with plenty of playful energy and enthusiasm for life. She enjoys interactive play, enrichment, and being involved in the day-to-day activities around her. Unfortunately, Peggy’s current home environment has become increasingly overwhelming for her, particularly due to the dynamics of living alongside multiple other dogs. During hormonal periods, especially when she comes into season, Peggy can be more anxious, and less tolerant of the other dogs around her. Peggy is a sensitive little dog who struggles when she feels overstimulated or unable to cope within a busy multi-dog environment. Because of this, Peggy is currently not receiving the level of calm attention, stimulation, and emotional balance that she would benefit from. Peggy would ideally be suited as the only dog in the household, where she can enjoy individual attention and a calmer atmosphere. In many ways, Peggy displays very typical dachshund traits. When walked alone on lead she can initially appear reserved and somewhat unsure of unfamiliar dogs or environments. However, when accompanied by her familiar “pack,” she becomes much more vocal and confident, often barking at other dogs as part of that group dynamic. This behaviour is not outside of what would be expected for the breed, but any new owner should be prepared to continue working on confidence building, calm exposure, and positive reinforcement training. Peggy is fully house trained within the home, she is also crate trained and settles well when required. In addition, she travels very well in the car. Peggy would also be best suited to a home with older, calm, and dog-savvy children, or an adult-only household. We are also looking for a home where she is not regularly left for extended periods of time, as she can become vocal if left alone for too long, although she should be able to cope with a couple of hours, once settled. Overall, Peggy is a wonderfully affectionate, funny, and endearing little dog who simply needs a more compatible environment in order to feel secure and balanced. In the right home, with patient and understanding owners, who appreciate the quirks and sensitivities of the dachshund breed, Peggy has the potential to become an exceptionally devoted and rewarding companion. She has so much love to give and deserves a home where she can feel safe, understood, and truly cherished.
