Hector is a 14 month-old neutered Collie cross who has already overcome more in his short life than most dogs ever should. Vaccinated, blood tested, and microchipped, he is now safe, healthy, and ready to find the forever home he truly deserves. Hector was found alone on the streets of Bosnia, suffering from painful superficial injuries to his front paws. No one knows exactly what happened to him, but what is clear is that he needed time, care, and patience to heal—both physically and emotionally. Thankfully, no surgery was needed, and this incredibly brave boy made a full recovery. And what a transformation he has made. When Hector first arrived in foster care, he was timid and unsure of the world. Today, he is a completely different dog. His confidence has blossomed, and his personality is beginning to shine through in the most heart-warming ways. He is now a loving, playful boy who has truly discovered the comfort of home life. He proudly claims the sofa, enjoys the company of everyone in the house, and has even developed a very endearing habit of hiding little treasures in his bed—though he never chews them! Hector’s progress and personality: Confident and affectionate in the home Loves men, women, and children aged 8+ Now comfortable around cats and other dogs House trained and well-mannered indoors Sleeps happily on his own Can be left for up to 3 hours after exercise Very food motivated and eager to learn Barely barks (may whine briefly then settles) Hector is still learning about the world outside the home. On walks, he can occasionally pull, but he responds well to gentle correction and is very keen to please. At times, he may pause or freeze when something feels overwhelming, and he still finds loud or sudden noises a little scary—but he is improving all the time with patient guidance. He is a bright, sensitive boy who thrives on reassurance and consistency. Like many young dogs with a difficult start, he is still working through some puppy behaviours such as excitement mouthing, but this is improving as he learns appropriate ways to interact. Hector is currently fostered in Horton Heath, Southampton, where he has shown just how far love and stability can take him. Ideal home for Hector: Patient, calm adopters who understand sensitive dogs Someone around for much of the day (or a “companion” lifestyle home) Secure garden for safe exploration and sniffing Continued positive training and confidence building Hector could happily live with cats and other dogs, having grown in confidence alongside both. This beautiful boy is now ready for the next chapter of his life—not survival, but belonging. He doesn’t need perfection; he just needs patience, kindness, and a safe place to continue becoming the dog he was always meant to be. Could you be Hector’s safe person—the one who finally shows him what forever really feels like?
