Hi there! My name is Bella, and I’m a happy, wiggly, energetic girl who is just waiting to find my new best friend. If you’re looking for a shadow who loves fuss and attention as much as I do, we’re going to get along famously! I’m here because, very sadly, my owner passed away and the immediate family were unable to care for me.I’m what you might call a ā€˜people person.’ I absolutely adore meeting new friends, though I’ll admit I sometimes get so excited that I can’t help but jump up to say hello! My absolute favourite thing in the world is a good bum scratch. I’ll even put my shoulders down and my bum way up in the air to help you reach the right spot. Just a warning: if you stop before I’m finished, I’ll let out a little vocal ā€˜hey!’ to remind you that I’m still here for more cuddles. When it comes to other dogs, I can be a bit of a ā€˜big talker.’ If I see a dog behind a fence or while I’m out on my lead, my hackles might go up and I might bark a bit—but don’t worry, I’m not being mean! I’m just feeling a lot of big emotions. Once I actually get to say hello, I settle right down and walk very nicely with my canine companions. I’ve socialised off lead in secure paddocks here, I’m actually quite an independent lady; I’m happy to let other dogs do their own thing while I focus on the important stuff, like sniffing every blade of grass and having a good roll in the dirt! At home I’d prefer to be the centre of attention, which is why I’d like to be the only dog.I’m a ā€˜busy bee’ by nature, so I’m looking for a home where we can stay active together. I love my toys—especially the soft ones—and I’m always up for a gentle game of tug or fetch. I’m a clever girl, too; I already know how to ā€˜sit,’ and I was a total star during my assessment, even when sharing my food and treats. My new home will need a secure garden where I can zoom around, and a family who has plenty of time for enrichment and play. If you have a spot on your sofa (and some spare time for bum scratches), I’d love to meet you!

Hello, my name is Blake and I’m a gentle ex-racing greyhound looking for a calm and loving home to begin my next chapter.I’m a very affectionate boy who really enjoys being close to my people. One of my favourite ways to ask for attention is to lean gently into you or rest my head in your lap while you give me some fuss. I’m a very tactile dog and I find comfort in being touched, stroked and brushed. In fact, brushing is one of my favourite things and I’ll happily ask for more when you stop.I’ve been very well behaved during all of my handling and health checks, and I stay calm and cooperative when being examined or even lifted. I’m a relaxed boy who enjoys gentle interactions and quiet companionship.Toys are still a bit of a mystery to me. I’ve had a look at them but I’m not quite sure what I’m meant to do with them yet. That said, I’m sure with time and encouragement I might learn that they can be fun. I’m also very polite around food and happily share my food bowl and tasty treats without any worries.Because I was previously a racing greyhound, I’ve never lived in a home before. That means there will be lots of new things for me to learn, such as house training and getting used to everyday household life. I’ll need a patient owner who can guide me gently while I figure everything out at my own pace.I really enjoy the company of other dogs, especially medium to large breeds. When I meet other dogs I greet them politely, and when I’ve spent time off lead with them I’ve shown that I like to stay close and follow them around to see what they’re doing. Having a canine friend in the home could help me feel even more settled and confident. If you’re looking for a kind, calm companion who loves affection and quiet company, I might just be the boy for you.

Hello, I’m Blue Rose I’m a gentle, loving girl who’s ready to swap racing life for something much softer and cosier. I adore being close to my people and one of my favourite things in the world is resting my head in your lap while you give me a gentle neck scratch. I’m very happy to settle quietly on my bed and just enjoy being near you, soaking up the calm of home life.I’m very good for handling and have been an absolute star for the vet, so you won’t need to worry about me when I go for my check-ups or health visits. Grooming is something I really enjoy too. If you’re brushing me and stop, I’ll let you know I’d quite like you to carry on by leaning in or nudging you for more.Toys don’t really do much for me. I might give them a quick sniff, but I’d much rather curl up and relax instead. Food, however, is always appreciated and I share my meals and treats nicely without any fuss.As an ex-racing greyhound, I’ve never lived in a home before, so I’m still learning how everything works. I’ll need a kind and patient family who are happy to show me the ropes and help me with some basic training as I settle into this new world.I walk nicely on the lead and enjoy getting out and about, but if I spot something exciting like a squirrel or a cat, I might pull a little. Because of this, I need to stay on lead and wear my muzzle whenever we’re out in public. I’m very comfortable wearing it and it doesn’t stop me enjoying my walks at all.I’m friendly with other dogs and greet them politely. If I have a dog friend to live with, especially one my size or bigger, I’d be very happy. I can be playful when I’m comfortable and sometimes I get a bit vocal when I’m excited, so I’d suit a dog who enjoys play just as much as I do.I’m looking for a calm, loving home where I can relax, feel safe, and finally enjoy the life I’ve been waiting for. If you’re searching for a sweet, affectionate companion who’s happiest curled up close to you, I might be your perfect match.

Cindy Lou, a 1 year old female French Bulldog available for adoption from Gables Dogs & Cats Home in Devon

Hi! I’m Cindy Lou — a one-year-old French Bulldog with lots of energy, a big voice, and an even bigger love for life. I’m playful, lively, and always ready to be involved in whatever’s going on around me. I really enjoy being the centre of attention and I’m not afraid to let you know when I want to join in!I absolutely adore people. Saying hello is one of my favourite things and I do it with a lot of enthusiasm. I love affection, cuddles, and rough-and-tumble play, and I thrive on interaction with my humans. I’m very aware of my surroundings and like to comment on them too — I’ve got plenty to say and I say it proudly.Toys are my passion. Honestly, I love them all — big ones, small ones, squeaky ones, soft ones. I’ll bring them to you to start a game of tug, or I’ll take them off to my bed and entertain myself. Toys are a huge part of my happiness and help me burn off some of my boundless energy.I’m generally happy being handled and don’t mind rough play, but I can be quite mouthy when I’m excited. I don’t love everything that comes with grooming — I’d rather play with the brush than sit still — but I do enjoy being brushed along my back. I do have some ongoing medical issues, and because of this I can be sensitive if something hurts. For that reason, I’ll need to wear a muzzle for vet visits and any medical treatment to keep everyone safe and relaxed.Food-wise, I’m polite with my meals and happy to share my food bowl. I can be a bit reluctant to give up really tasty treats, but I haven’t shown any aggression — I just need sensible management in the future.Walks are exciting for me! I’m strong on the lead and I pull, so I’ll need to wear a harness and continue learning some calmer walking skills. When I see other dogs, I get very excited and vocal, especially if there’s a fence involved. I love other dogs and want to play, but I can come on a bit strong. If I were to live with another dog, they’d need to be confident, calm, and tolerant of my enthusiastic style.I’m looking for a home that understands young, energetic dogs and can give me plenty of playtime, structure, and guidance — alongside lots of love, of course. My new owners will have owned brachycephalic breeds in the past (or currently). If you’re ready for a fun, noisy, toy-loving little character who will keep you entertained every single day, I might just be the girl for you.

Hi, I’m Cleo, a glossy black ex-racing greyhound with a sparkle in my eye and a toy usually tucked proudly in my mouth. I’m a confident, curious girl who bounces through life with enthusiasm, always ready to explore, play and make new human friends. If you’re looking for a dog with personality, charm and a playful streak, you may have just found her.Toys are my absolute treasure. I love parading them around like prized possessions, taking them to bed and showing everyone how clever I am. I adore being brushed and will happily lean in for more fuss, and I’m wonderfully polite around my food and treats. I might sneak a peek at the kitchen counters just in case you’ve left me a surprise snack though. As I’ve never lived in a home before, I’ll need a patient family to guide me through everyday life, but I’m bright, eager and ready to learn.I’m searching for a home that enjoys lively companionship and is happy to keep me on lead and muzzled in public to keep everyone safe. I’d love two good walks a day, plenty of playtime and maybe a medium or large dog friend who enjoys a gentle game of chase as much as I do. I can live with children aged 10+ who understand that I can be a little bouncy when I’m excited, but cats and small animals aren’t for me.If you’re ready for a striking black beauty who will fill your days with laughter, toys, affection and endless character, then I’m ready to run straight into your heart and make myself at home.

Hello, I’m Dolly Pawton — an independent lady with a love for long walks, fresh air, and good canine company. I arrived at Gables in quite poor condition and needed a few weeks of TLC to help me feel like myself again, but now I’m ready to find a home where I can truly belong.I’m not the sort of dog who constantly demands attention, but I do appreciate affection in my own quiet way. A gentle neck scratch is just lovely, and once I trust you, I enjoy sharing calm moments together. I’m polite for handling and vet checks, although I’m a bit sensitive about my feet and ears. I can also flinch if hands move too quickly over my head. When it comes to playtime, that’s where my fun side really comes out! I love tennis balls and silicone toys, and when the toys appear I get very animated and excited. I’m not quite sure what to do with soft, stuffed toys, but give me a ball and I’m in my element. I’ll happily fetch it and throw it back at you to keep the game going.I’m a clever girl too. I can sit and give my paws when asked, and I’m very focused when treats are involved. I’d love to keep learning new things in my forever home, and I think I’d really enjoy structured activities like scent work or even agility in the future.Food is no problem for me — I enjoy my meals and I’m perfectly happy sharing my food bowl and high-value treats with people. I’m an active dog who loves getting out and about, and long walks are one of my favourite things. I do pull on the lead and I’m very strong, so I’ll need to wear a head collar and continue working on my lead manners. I’ll need to stay on the lead in public for at least my first few months in my new home while we build up recall safely.I’m very social with other dogs and could happily live with a canine companion. If another dog wants to play, I’m more than happy to join in — but if they’re quieter and prefer their own space, that’s fine by me too. I’ve got good dog manners and know how to read the room.Because my past hasn’t been the easiest, I’m looking for a calm, experienced home where I can settle in at my own pace. I enjoy being active and will need around one to two hours of exercise each day, but I’m also happy to relax once my needs are met. Time alone will need to be built up gradually, but once settled I should be able to manage being left for up to 5 hours.I’d be best suited to a home with older children aged 10 and up who understand how to be gentle and respectful. A secure garden with fencing at least five feet high is essential for me to have a safe space to play in while I get settled.I’m a lovely girl who has come a long way, and I’m ready to be the centre of someone’s world — with the love, patience, and understanding I truly deserve.

Hello, I’m Eukie — a big girl with an equally big personality and a whole lot of love to give once I feel safe. I was surrendered through no fault of my own when my family no longer had the time, space, or finances to care for me, and now I’m looking for a new forever home where I can truly settle and shine. When I meet new people, I can be a bit shy and unsure. I might bark at first because I don’t quite know what to think, but with time, tasty treats, and gentle encouragement, I’ll gather my courage and come over to say hello. If I see another dog greeting someone confidently, that really helps — I take my cues from my dog friends and it gives me a big confidence boost. I absolutely love other dogs and gain so much reassurance from their presence. Having a confident, friendly canine companion helps me feel safe and brave, so I must live in a home with another dog who is playful, confident, and people-friendly.I’m quite a chatty girl and I have a whole range of noises depending on what I’m trying to tell you. I enjoy affection, but on my own terms. The better I know you, the more affectionate I become, but even if we’re not cuddling, I’m perfectly happy just relaxing nearby on my bed or the floor, enjoying your company. I form strong bonds quickly and once I trust you, I like to keep you in sight — just to make sure my favourite people are close by.I’m tolerant of handling and cope well with checks of my ears, mouth, and feet. Being lifted makes me uncomfortable, so that’s best done by two people if it’s ever needed. At the vet, I was a little hesitant at first — new people can be worrying — but once I realised there were treats involved, I relaxed quickly. I had no reaction at all to my kennel cough vaccination. Grooming is fine for me too, as long as I’m calm — if I’m feeling playful, I might try to turn the brush into a toy!Speaking of toys… I love them. All kinds! Tug, fetch, or independent play — I’m happy however you want to play, or I can keep myself entertained if you’re busy. I’m polite around food and happy to share both my food bowl and high-value treats. I can also sit and give my paws when asked. On walks, I’m strong and can pull at times, so I’ll need to wear a head collar to help my humans keep good control of me. With consistency and guidance, I’ll continue improving my lead manners.I’m house trained, was crate trained as a puppy, and I’ve been allowed on the furniture. I can be a little anxious when travelling, but I do settle once I’m on my way.I’m looking for a home with someone that understands sensitive dogs like me and has owned an anxious large breed previously, and already has a confident dog to become my emotional support companion. In return, I’ll give you loyalty, conversation, and a whole lot of heart. If you’ve got room in your life (and on your sofa) for a big, thoughtful girl who just wants to feel secure and loved, I’d really like to meet you.

My life has been full of hardship and difficulties. I have already been in 3 different homes before I arrived at the safety of Gables. My first owners tried to train me as a gundog but as I wasn’t very good at it they no longer wanted me. The sad part is they were prepared to shoot me. Luckily I was saved by a farmer who rehomed me to a family with small children after I had been attacked by a large dog. With all the trauma and upheaval I had already faced I found living with a young family too much which is why I found my way here.Despite such a hard start I think I have been a very lucky boy to have been given another amazing chance at happiness. I have been here for a while now and I know that is because the humans want to make sure I find a home that is perfect for me with people who can help me thrive.I came into rescue back in 2020, and over the years I’ve shown that once I trust someone, I love deeply and wholeheartedly. With my people, I am affectionate, loyal, and incredibly loving. I adore cuddles and will gently wrap my paws around your neck to pull you in for a proper hug. I can be playful and silly too — tennis balls are my absolute favourite, and a game of fetch is one of my happiest moments.I’m very good with handling from people I know well and trust, although I can be sensitive around my head and don’t like hands coming over it. Because of my past experiences, I do need to wear a well-fitted basket muzzle for vet visits and any hands-on care like grooming or medical treatment — it helps me feel safe and keeps everyone protected. I’ve actually learned to enjoy brushing with people I trust, which shows just how far I’ve come.Strangers are very hard for me. When I don’t know someone, I can feel overwhelmed and frightened, and I may bark or react to keep them away. I cope best when new people ignore me completely and give me time and space. Because of this, I’ll always need careful management around visitors, and I’ll need to be kept separate from people I don’t know well. Any necessary introductions must be done slowly, with me on a lead and wearing my muzzle.Walks are something I really enjoy. I’m generally lovely on the lead, although I do react if I see dogs, small animals, or busy surroundings. Because of this, I must always stay on the lead and wear my basket muzzle in public. Quiet walking routes suit me best, where I don’t have to face lots of unexpected encounters. I am a very playful young man and I love to have off lead time in the secure paddocks here at Gables. The brilliant thing is that with so many private rentable secure paddocks in the area my new owners will still be able to give me the freedom of off lead play but in a totally safe environment. I adore playing with toys and I am really good at playing fetch. I quite enjoy giving the toy to my handler and grabbing it back quickly when they go to pick it up. I find it hilarious.I am very motivated by food which is the best thing to use as a distraction when there is another dog around. I have shown some resource guarding behaviour around my food in the kennels so I prefer to be left alone during meal times. I know how to sit when I’m asked but I still need other basic training once I’m finally in my forever home. My new home will need a secure garden with 5ft high fencing. Due to my past I absolutely can’t be around children, even if they only visit very occasionally. My home needs to be my sanctuary and I am very unsettled around kids.Due to my difficult past, I am a complex chap who has some very specific requirements from my new owners. It is very important that I am rehomed to someone who has experience dealing with reactivity in a dog that they have owned in the past, while they were an adult. Experience with resource guarding would be beneficial, though not essential, provided adopters are willing to research and follow professional guidance.I need a quiet, rural or semi-rural location where exposure to unfamiliar people and dogs can be kept to a minimum. My new owners must be understanding that I must always be kept separate from visitors to the home, where having visitors at all is a very rare occurrence. A secure garden with solid fencing of at least 5 feet high throughout is a must for safe outdoor play.I feel now is my time to shine! If you feel that you have the time and experience that I am looking for then I would be very grateful if you filled out an application form.

Hi, I’m Lisa, and I’m a gentle girl who likes to take life at my own pace while I figure the world out. I’m an ex-racing greyhound, so a home is something completely new to me, but I’m curious and I enjoy exploring new spaces with my nose leading the way. I’m not the boldest dog straight away, but once I feel comfortable you’ll see my sweet nature shine through.I do enjoy affection, especially when it’s calm and relaxed, though sometimes I get a little distracted by all the interesting things going on around me. When I’m unsure, I tend to tuck myself away or slow down rather than make a fuss, so having patient humans who understand that I just need a moment will help me feel safe. I’ve been very good for all my handling and vet checks, and I’m happy to be brushed too.Toys didn’t really make much sense to me during my assessment, but I’m very polite around food and treats and I’m happy to share. Because I’ve never lived in a home before, I’ll need some time and gentle guidance while I learn what everyday life is all about. I would really love a cosy little spot where I can relax when I need some quiet time. When I’m out on walks, I like to stay close. If I see people or other dogs, I might pause for a moment to take it all in before continuing. I actually feel more confident when I have a canine friend nearby, so I may enjoy living with another calm medium or larger breed dog who can help show me the ropes.I am suited to first time pawrents, as long as you have a very quiet home where I can have lots of time to adjust to my new life without too much hustle and bustle. I’d love a little space to call my own, perhaps a nook under the stairs or an area tucked away that I can go if things get a bit too much and I need time to reset and take stock. If you’re looking for a sweet, thoughtful companion who will quietly grow in confidence with your support, I might just be the girl for you.

I’m Lorenzo, an ex-racing Greyhound who’s swapped the track for a chance at a real home, and I’m throwing myself into this next chapter with a lot of enthusiasm. I’m a confident, lively boy who loves meeting new people and making friends. If you’ve got time for fuss, cuddles, and a bit of fun, I’ll happily be right by your side.I really enjoy affection and I’m not shy about asking for more. If you stop stroking me, don’t be surprised if I lean into you or gently remind you I’m still there. I’m great for handling and have been brilliant with the vet too, so you won’t need to worry about check-ups. I also quite enjoy being brushed and will happily relax while you give me a groom.Toys are one of my favourite things, especially soft, squeaky ones. They really bring out my playful side. I’m also very food-motivated and I take treats nicely, although I will help myself if anything tasty is left within reach, so tidy worktops are a must in my future home.As I’ve never lived in a home before, I’m still learning the ropes and I don’t know any basic commands yet. I’m keen though, and with kind, consistent guidance I’ll enjoy learning what being a family dog is all about. When we’re out and about, I walk nicely on the lead and don’t pull much at all. I do need to stay on lead and wear my muzzle in public, as I have a strong prey drive, so my future family will need to be comfortable managing that. I’m happy wearing my harness and muzzle and don’t let it spoil my walks one bit.I get on well with other dogs and greet them politely. If given the chance in a safe, enclosed space, I enjoy a gentle game of chase, but I’m just as happy to relax and soak up attention from my humans. I’d be fine living with another dog, but I’m not able to live with cats or small animals.I’m looking for a home where I can be shown patience, kindness, and understanding as I adjust to life off the track. I’d suit first-time owners who’ve done their research on Greyhounds and are ready to help me discover just how lovely home life can be.If you’re searching for an affectionate, fun-loving companion with a big heart and a waggy tail, I might just be your boy.

Hi there! I’m Manny — a bouncy, happy, full-of-life greyhound who just can’t help but make people smile. I’ve got bags of personality, a playful streak, and a heart as big as my paws! Life is just too exciting not to enjoy, and I like to make the most of every single moment.I’m the kind of boy who’s interested in everything. I love to see what’s going on, meet new people, and explore new places. I’ve been told I’m quite entertaining — apparently, my enthusiasm can be a bit contagious! When I’m happy (which is most of the time), I bounce, wag, and sometimes even chatter away with a few excited noises of my own. I just like to express myself!Even though I’ve got plenty of energy, I’m also a big softie who loves a good cuddle. I adore affection and fuss and will gently nudge your hand if you stop stroking me too soon. I’m brilliant for all my vet checks and grooming — I actually quite enjoy being brushed and will stand there like a superstar, soaking up the attention. I love people and really enjoy being part of whatever’s happening around me.When the toys come out, I truly come alive! Squeaky toys are my absolute favourite — I’ll bounce, toss them in the air, and squeak away like it’s the best sound in the world (though I’ve been told it can be a bit noisy for human ears!).Going for walks is another one of my favourite things. I love to explore, sniff everything, and see what’s around the next corner. I can get a little overexcited when I spot other dogs — I just want to meet them all and say hello! Sometimes I get a bit vocal about it, but it’s all happy excitement, and I settle again quickly once I’ve had a proper sniff or a bit of reassurance.I’m looking for a home with someone who has owned a dog before and understands that my energy and enthusiasm are just part of my charm. A secure garden where I can play safely would be perfect, and I’d love an owner who enjoys having lots of fun. I could live with another playful, tolerant dog if introduced properly, but I’d also be perfectly happy as your one-and-only pal getting all the love and attention to myself.Because I can be a bit bouncy, I’d be best with children aged 10 and over who are confident around dogs and don’t mind a bit of noise and fun! I can’t live with cats or small furries, though — I find them a little too interesting.I’m a fun-loving, affectionate, and curious boy who’s always ready for the next adventure. I promise that life with me will never be boring — just full of laughter, love, and plenty of squeaky toys!
