Fred – Looking for His Foster or Forever Home Meet Fred, a 2-year-old Dachshund with a big personality packed into a small body Fred originally came into rescue after his previous family were unable to keep him. He was briefly placed in a new home but came into our care after showing some guarding behaviour around a high-value treat (a bone) within the first 24 hours. Since being with us, we’ve learned that Fred is a lovely, bright little boy who does not have general issues around food. However, he can growl when he has something he considers very high value, like a bone. This is manageable with the right understanding and guidance, but he will need an experienced and committed owner who is willing to work on this and set clear, consistent boundaries. Fred already knows some basics — he can sit and give paw — and he’s crate trained too. He loves his walks and enjoys playtime. He just needs someone patient and confident to show him the way forward.
