Basil, a 2 years old male Mastiff available for adoption from Animal Rescue Cumbria in Cumbria

Animal Rescue Cumbria

Basil

Cumbria
SexMale
Age2 years
BreedMastiff

I would like my family to be around most of the time.I could live with older children.I could live with another calm dog if introductions went well.Basil is a young, enthusiastic Mastiff cross who’s still finding his paws in the world. At just over a year old, he’s full of playful energy and has a lot of love to give but he can find being on his own a little overwhelming at times. He’s looking for a home where someone is around most of the time to help him build confidence and learn that independence can be a positive experience. Basil would benefit from continued training and routine to help guide him through his teenage phase — he’s still very puppy-like in many ways!Basil may be able to live with another well-matched dog of similar size, pending successful introductions, and could live with older, dog-savvy children (secondary school age and up).Ideally, his new owner will have experience with large breeds or be confident in handling bigger dogs. With time, consistency, and plenty of positive encouragement, Basil will make a brilliant companion. If you’re ready for a bouncy best friend with bags of potential, Basil might be just the one for you.**Basil currently weighs 41.2kg**

Bobby

Cumbria
SexMale

BreedUnknown

Poor Bobby, our celebrity dog featured in the press as our longest inmate, is back !! He went to a lovely home but fell madly in love with his new mum to such an extent that he couldn't bear to be parted from her. This was completely new behaviour for him. This boy is a mystery in a puzzle in an enigma but we are determined to find him the right home. He now has an updated profile: he doesn't now appear to have a problem with men;he's happy for joggers /cyclists to go past no problem; He's fine meeting other dogs out and about ; He doesn't like cats or pigeons . He only pulls on the lead for the first few minutes then walks nicely. He needs to be away from livestock and he would need careful/controlled introductions to visitors. If he bonds with his next person to the same extent they will need to gradually lengthen the time they are away from him- when left he can be very vocal so no near neighbours or else ones that are deaf!! Are you his special person ???

Animal Rescue Cumbria is a long-established animal rescue charity founded in 1972 to address the growing number of pets being euthanised due to a lack of suitable homes. Originally run by volunteers fostering animals in their own homes, the charity became formally registered in 1974 under the guidance of Alfred Wainwright, whose support and book royalties helped secure a permanent rescue site. In 1984, the charity opened its Kapellan centre, which continues to provide shelter and care for dogs and cats in need. Today, Animal Rescue Cumbria remains a community-supported organisation, relying on donations, legacies, and fundraising to continue its mission of rescuing, caring for, and rehoming vulnerable animals.

Silver Fox Dog Rescue

Charity No.1170239

This foster-based dog rescue works to rescue and rehabilitate dogs in a home environment, allowing each dog to be fully assessed in everyday family life alongside other dogs, cats, and typical household routines. The charity supports dogs that can no longer remain with their owners due to circumstances beyond their control, such as illness, bereavement, housing, or financial difficulties, as well as dogs coming from neglect or abuse cases. All dogs receive essential veterinary care, including neutering, vaccination, and microchipping, before being considered for adoption. Rehoming is carefully managed through home checks, with a strong focus on finding the most suitable, long-term match for each individual dog rather than placing dogs quickly.

More Information

Cumbria’s rural landscape and access to extensive walking routes make it particularly appealing for active rescue dogs and outdoor-loving adopters. Dogs rehomed here are often suited to quieter homes with consistent routines and plenty of exercise. Many Cumbria-based rescues place strong emphasis on matching dogs to lifestyles rather than location alone, especially in more remote areas. Adopting a rescue dog in Cumbria can be a great fit for those looking to share their time and surroundings with a canine companion.
