Derbyshire’s blend of market towns offering convenience and rural areas offering space makes it a versatile county for rescue dog adoption. Dogs here are often matched with adopters based on daily routines, experience, and access to outdoor areas such as local trails and countryside. Many rescues covering Derbyshire work closely with foster carers to understand each dog’s needs before rehoming. This careful approach helps ensure dogs are placed into homes where they can thrive long term.

Amber

Derbyshire
SexFemale
Age5 years
BreedLabrador

Five-year-old Amber came to us a few weeks ago from a pound in Kent as she wasn’t claimed. When she arrived with us, she was found to have a suspicious-looking lump in her chin and after being analysed and removed this was found to be a low-grade mast cell tumour. The tumour was completely excised shortly afterwards with good margins, but unfortunately a sampled lymph node showed signs of mast cells. Amber’s prognosis is still favourable as it could be isolated spread (and even if not, further lymph nodes could be removed) so she has been to our for a staging procedure today, with the results due in a few days.Amber is another beautiful soul who has been so badly let down. It breaks my heart think of her not only being abandoned and ending in a council pound, but all while she had cancer starting to slowly spread around her body. She is such a lovely-natured girl who loves people and dogs alike.Thankfully, she is in a wonderful foster home and has the best vet care. We will do everything we can for Amber and will keep everyone posted.

Amber, a 5 years old female Crossbreed available for adoption from Just For Dogs Rescue in Derbyshire

Amber is a beautiful, devoted girl with all the typical qualities of a guardian breed – loyal, affectionate with her family, and naturally protective of her space. While gentle and chilled-out in the home, Amber can be wary of unfamiliar faces, if she doesn’t immediately recognise someone approaching – especially when she’s being handled by her family – she may growl to communicate her discomfort. This behaviour isn’t unusual for guardian breeds, but it does mean Amber needs adopters who understand and respect the instincts she was bred for. With the right handling and calm, confident leadership, she relaxes beautifully. At home, Amber is wonderfully laid-back – she loves to relax, nap, and enjoy peaceful downtime. She’ll need physically strong adopters simply because of her size and breed type, but beyond that, she asks for very little – kindness, understanding, and a home that appreciates who she is.Amber’s Ideal Home:

Beau And Prince, a 2 years old male Labrador available for adoption from Yappy Ever After in Derbyshire

Yappy Ever After

Beau And Prince

Derbyshire
SexMale
Age2 years
BreedLabrador

Beau and Prince, a bonded pair of brothers, arrived with us a couple of weeks ago and we would love for them to be adopted in time for Christmas. The boys are due their vet checks next week, but we would like to start taking applications for their forever home together now (if any issues are found this may be subject to change as they will need for be in foster for longer). They are two years old. Here is their foster-dad’s write-up…“When Prince and Beau first came to us, they were understandably excitable and a little anxious after a sudden move. It was clear they had been very loved and well cared for, which probably made the transition harder. From day one, though, their trust in people and affectionate nature shone through. These boys are absolutely gorgeous and super friendly. They love cuddles and often snuggle up to you—and each other—for comfort. They’re playful too and really enjoy a good game of fetch (they’re excellent at dropping the ball!).Over time, we’ve seen their excitement settle and their gentle side emerge. A consistent routine has helped them feel more secure and calm. They know basic commands and are improving every day, but like many big, enthusiastic dogs, they need a little help with manners.Walking can still be a challenge—they pull and sometimes lose recall when they’re excited—but this is getting better daily. Their recall on a retractable lead is already much improved, and with time, enclosed spaces or large fields will suit them perfectly. Walking them individually is easier, and they have Halti headcollars available if needed.Prince and Beau would thrive in a home with a large garden for exercise while you continue to work on lead skills. They do find it hard to be left alone so a home where someone is usually around would be ideal. Gradually building up their confidence with safe spaces like crates or beds will help with separation anxiety and sleeping routines. They’re toilet trained, though Beau occasionally scent marks—something that’s already improving and should settle further once they’re neutered. They haven’t been tested with cats, so a cat-free home is recommended, and because of their size and boisterous nature, a family with older children would be best. When meeting other dogs and people, they’re eager and vocal, but once introduced, they’re very friendly. We’ve seen no aggression—just playful energy and the occasional normal doggy squabble between themselves. In short, these boys are like big puppies: full of love, fun, and personality, with a few rough edges that time, patience, and training will smooth out. An adopter who understands that progress takes time and is willing to put in the effort will help. Everything we’ve seen is manageable and improving every day, but they will require consistency and commitment.Prince and Beau are wonderful and they deserve a home that will give them the love and guidance they need. If you’re ready for two affectionate, playful dogs who will reward you with endless cuddles and loyalty, these boys could be the perfect match. If you’re ready to give them the stability, patience, and love they need, they will reward you with endless cuddles, loyalty, and joy. These boys are precious and deserve a home that will help them blossom into amazing companions”.The boys will need to stay local to Derby, Nottingham, Burton, Chesterfield or Stoke for their second vaccination/neutering (both paid for by the rescue)

Bugzy, a Unknown old male Crossbreed available for adoption from Strays Without Borders in Derbyshire

Strays Without Borders

Bugzy

Derbyshire
SexMale
AgeUnknown
BreedCrossbreed

Little Bugzy is currently thriving in his foster home in Shirebrook! He has settled in rather amazingly, and has been clean in the house since day one. He gets on with his canine roommate as well and has been so happy to leave the street and kennel life behind. Bugzy currently is doing training and trying to get confidence while out on walks. He gets reactive when he is seeing other dogs although he is great at home with the dog he knows. He is improving every day, but anyone who adopts him will have to continue with the training to help him overcome his insecurities and be the best version of himself. At home he loves everyone and has been meeting with extended family members and seems to be winning everyone’s hearts! He is slowly still getting used to the cat in the family, but they have available space apart, so they don’t spend much time together. Bugzy has a deformity on one of his hind legs that he has been born with mostlikely. Meets and greets can be arranged after a successful application. Origin story:We saw a photo of a tiny, sad dog locked behind bars with the title “Will be euthanised – only one day left to find a rescue space.” That was the photo of Bugsy, a stray dog from Macedonia who had been taken to a public shelter because someone didn’t like him sleeping in the kindergarden’s yard. Everything about this screamed injustice, and we couldn’t allow a dog to pay with his life simply for sleeping in a public space, just because someone minded him.We took Bugsy to the kennels and, as we guessed, he turned out to be a gentle, calm little boy. He doesn’t bother anyone and is just happy to be alive and fed. Bugzy is a little bit reserved boy and would thrive in a calm environment, possibly a retired family who has experience with rescue dogs. He would prefer a calm home and a simple life. We truly hope to find him a forever home where he will never have to fear for his life again. A small bed, a couple of walks a day, some food, and love are all he will ever ask for. Bugsy is up to date with his vaccinations, neutered, and has rescue back-up.
