BreedCrossbreed

Amber is a beautiful, devoted girl with all the typical qualities of a guardian breed – loyal, affectionate with her family, and naturally protective of her space. While gentle and chilled-out in the home, Amber can be wary of unfamiliar faces, if she doesn’t immediately recognise someone approaching – especially when she’s being handled by her family – she may growl to communicate her discomfort. This behaviour isn’t unusual for guardian breeds, but it does mean Amber needs adopters who understand and respect the instincts she was bred for. With the right handling and calm, confident leadership, she relaxes beautifully. At home, Amber is wonderfully laid-back – she loves to relax, nap, and enjoy peaceful downtime. She’ll need physically strong adopters simply because of her size and breed type, but beyond that, she asks for very little – kindness, understanding, and a home that appreciates who she is.Amber’s Ideal Home:

Rescued from Romania, this handsome mixed breed has embraced his new chance at life with enthusiasm and affection, quickly showing just how much love he has to give.Full of character, Apolo is a real “cheeky chappy” with a face you simply can’t help but smile back at. He absolutely adores human companionship and will happily follow you around with a constantly wagging tail, just wanting to be close to his people at all times. His loyal and loving nature makes him a wonderful companion for someone who enjoys having a dog by their side throughout the day.Apolo also has a playful side and loves nothing more than running around the yard, burning off energy and enjoying himself. When playtime is over, he’s more than ready to soak up all the affection he can get. He has the sweetest habit of leaning against your legs, making sure he gets every possible ounce of love and attention. We believe Apolo would thrive in a home that can match his affectionate and playful personality, where he’ll be included in daily life and given plenty of opportunities for both fun and cuddles.Apolo’s Ideal Home:

Ava, a 12 years old female German Shepherd x Akita available for adoption from RSPCA in Derbyshire

Ava

Derbyshire
SexFemale
Age12 years
BreedGerman Shepherd x Akita

She is a Shepherd/Akita cross and came to us from another independent RSPCA branch where she was very much loved but after two years of searching, they weren't able to find her forever home so we're hoping we can change that. Ava struts around like she owns the place, greets every day with enthusiasm, and is absolutely bursting with character. She's loving, playful, sweet, and loves life, with a sprinkle of aloofness, in true Akita fashion.

Bear, a 1 year old male Labrador available for adoption from Ashbourne Animal Welfare in Derbyshire

Bear

Derbyshire
SexMale
Age1 year
BreedLabrador

Bear is a lovely young lad who came to us for rehoming due to being part of an unplanned litter that didn’t find a home, he came in with his Brother, Joey. He’s a mix of breeds… his Mum is a Labrador/Husky mix, and his Dad is a medium sized foreign rescue. He is slightly bigger than Joey.Unfortunately Bear hasn’t ever been walked so hasn’t had any socialisation with dogs, apart from the several dogs in his previous home… he can be vocal when he see’s another dog out on walks, but we feel that this is simply that he doesn’t know how to react. We are confident that with a routine, regular outings and plenty of training he will make a fantastic companion! He’s clever and seems keen to please.Bear is very affectionate with people, he gets very excited – a typical puppy! He loves a cuddle! He has lived with children and could go to a new home with children over 5yrs.Bear is still very much a puppy… and has received very little training. He will be good fun, but will also need a fair amount of work with his training and socialisation. He has always had other dogs for company when left, so time alone would need to be built up gradually.

Beau, a 13 years old male Jack Russell Terrier available for adoption from Oldies Club in Derbyshire

Oldies Club

Beau

Derbyshire
SexMale
Age13 years
BreedJack Russell Terrier

Beau is a cute and intelligent Jack Russell x Patterdale. He is looking for a calm, adult home with terrier-experienced people who will allow him to settle at his own pace. He would like his people to be around most of the time. Beau loves long walks in the countryside and he isn't keen on noisy, busy streets, so a home in a rural location would suit him well. He is a sensitive little soul but he isn't a lap dog and isn't overly cuddly. Beau will accept affection on his own terms but he doesn't like too much handling as it worries him. Beau needs a home where he is your only dog and he isn't used to living with cats. Beau needs a child-free home. At night he likes to sleep in his own bed downstairs but he likes to have a light left on. Beau will make a loyal little friend to his new people. He forms strong bonds with the people he trusts and watching his confidence grow is incredibly rewarding.

Bella, a 4 years old female Cocker Spaniel available for adoption from Yappy Ever After in Derbyshire

Yappy Ever After

Bella

Derbyshire
SexFemale
Age4 years
BreedCocker Spaniel

Bella is a 3.5 year cocker spaniel girl, who is now vaccinated and spayed. She’s a lovely little girl but does struggle with some separation anxiety. She’s better than when she arrived but adopters will need to be aware she likely will cry/bark if being left, at least initially. She’s crate trained and not destructive at all.Great with dogs and definitely needs at least one dog friend in the home. She has a history of being nervous of men, will alarm bark and be defensive if approached. She warmed up to my partner very quickly though and absolutely loves him. She’s super affectionate and when she’s excited she will bounce and dance, will mouth playfully & gently and roll around with you.Great in the car (unless you get out without her and then she’ll bark).Good on lead – doesn’t walk with a completely loose lead but doesn’t try to drag you.She loves playing with dogs, even chasing and playing bitey face with my Bernese.Bella is not cat tested. She is in a child-free foster home, but was said to be great with visiting children of all ages before coming to us.Bella would best suit a home where at least one person works from home, but will also make sure she can’t always follow you around because that makes her separation anxiety worse when you do have to leave her. She’s a fab little girl and will just need time to settle and get used to new routines.Bella is in foster in Derby.

Bentley, a 4 years old male Bulldog available for adoption from RSPCA in Derbyshire

RSPCA

Bentley

Derbyshire
SexMale
Age4 years
BreedBulldog

He is a 3 year old Old Tyme Bulldog who came into our care via a national RSPCA inspector. In his previous home, he was kept in a crate for long periods of time so he hasn't experienced much of the outside world. He's a really sweet, lovely boy deep down, he just needs a home with time, patience, and bulldog experience to really help him flourish. He can be nervous so he needs gentle introductions to new people and situations, and help learning that the world isn't a scary place.

Bobbi, a 3 years old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier available for adoption from Ashbourne Animal Welfare in Derbyshire

Ashbourne Animal Welfare

Bobbi

Derbyshire
SexFemale
Age3 years
BreedStaffordshire Bull Terrier

Bobbi is a lovely Staffordshire Bull Terrier crossbreed who came to us for rehoming due to her previous owner being unwell. She came to us with her Sister, Lola. Bobbi and Lola do get along well, so we would be open to the idea of them finding a home together. She’s friendly with people and has been around children, she could go to a family home. She is boisterous and does jump up, so any children in the home would need to be familiar with dogs. She’s an affectionate girl who’s been used to lots of company.Sadly Bobbi can be dog reactive when she’s out – she can be quite vocal and this is something that will need work on in the new home. Her reactivity sets Lola off too. She’s not lived with cats.Bobbi is a energetic little dog who loves to run in our exercise fields and play ball! She would benefit from a secure garden to play in! Although she has short legs, she is an agile little soul and can jump high.

Cali, a 4 years old female Siberian Husky available for adoption from Ashbourne Animal Welfare in Derbyshire

Ashbourne Animal Welfare

Cali

Derbyshire
SexFemale
Age4 years
BreedSiberian Husky

Cali is a young Husky crossbreed who originally came to us through no fault of her own… she came to us with her Sister, Who has since been rehomed. Sadly their owner realised that they had bitten off more than they could chew by taking on the Sisters as puppies, as well as already having 2 existing dogs and 3 cats in the home. Sadly Cali wasn’t receiving the time and attention that she needed and was spending a lot of the time in the kitchen – now that Cali had matured, she had taken a bit of a dislike to one of the smaller dogs and the cats.Cali is generally a friendly, sociable girl but can be a little wary of some new people initially… however once she knows you, she is your best friend! She’s always super excited to greet the staff and volunteers when they arrive! She’s a real cuddler! She’s definitely a favourite with some of the volunteers and even benefits from occasional outings to go and explore – where she has been impeccably behaved!Since she has been with us, we have worked on her training and she will now walk nicely on a lead wearing her head collar. She does seem quite clever, and keen to please…so continued training would be beneficial. She will need somebody with a lot of time to dedicate to her. Her time alone will need to be built up, as she’s always had company. She’s affectionate, and ‘smiles’ at people to say hello! We did rehome Cali but sadly she was returned. Cali has been known to display jealous and/or possessive tendencies around ‘her people’ which is why we think she would be suited to somebody who lives alone and can work with her one on one. We also believe that Cali would need to be the only pet in the home.

Cavelli, a 3 years old female Crossbreed available for adoption from RSPCA in Derbyshire

RSPCA

Cavelli

Derbyshire
SexFemale
Age3 years
BreedCrossbreed

It occurred to me, as I watched Cavelli walk by, teats swinging like the udders of some hulking Friesian, that, for her whole life, she must’ve been defined by her children; her value determined exclusively by her ability to grow, birth and raise them. Her happiness, her needs and her wants must’ve been a secondary – or tertiary – concern. It is, therefore, about time to celebrate Cavelli because of her many wonderful merits, merits which extend well beyond the narrow realm of child-rearing.She came to us, naturally, with pups in tow – three, to be precise – and she was as devoted as she was doting, but her love is more ambient than specific. She loves her kids, true, but she loves us too – whoever ‘us’ happens to be. She loves a thrown toy upon which she might pounce, she loves a fragrant flower upon which she might roll, she loves a fine meal upon which she might feast. She loves to race in expanding and narrowing circles, faster and faster, each leg chasing to keep up with the one next to it. She loves to be scratched and tickled. She loves because she knows no other way of being. From her underbit jaw to her furiously wagging tail, front to back, Cavelli shares her love with the generosity of an eager philanthropist. Her smile tells you all you need to know. From a practical perspective, she walks nicely on lead and is toilet-trained too – but you don’t adopt a dog like Cavelli for cold-eyed pragmatism, you do so because your heart compels it. Because your soul sings a certain song.Written by Richard Grainger | Animal Care AssistantEverything you need to know about leaving a gift in your will or donating in memory of a loved one.Making a donation is quick and easy. Ashbourne Animal Welfare was established in 1988 after a group of local animal lovers came together to form a dedicated rescue organisation for animals in need. Initially relying on foster homes, fundraising events, and community support, the charity steadily grew as more animals required care. In 2001, Ashbourne Animal Welfare realised its long-term ambition of opening a purpose-built rescue and rehoming centre known as The Ark, providing improved facilities for cats and dogs. Today, the charity has a strong local supporter base and a long track record of rescuing, caring for, and rehoming thousands of animals, all driven by a continued commitment to welfare, compassion, and community involvement.

Oldies Club is a specialist rescue for dogs aged 7 and over, founded in 2005, and run entirely by volunteers. We do not have a rehoming centre and do not use kennels but instead place our dogs in carefully vetted foster homes throughout England, Wales and Scotland. We usually have between 30 and 40 dogs in our care at any one time. Our dogs are fully assessed and receive whatever medical treatment they need before being put up for adoption. We take care to fully describe the type of home each individual dog needs so that potential adopters can be sure that the dog they are applying to adopt should suit the home they have to offer. As well as the dogs in our own rescue, we also help older dogs in other rescues by promoting them on our website, alongside our own dogs. This free service has helped thousands of older dogs find homes. We are full members of ADCH and are licensed to rehome dogs in Scotland (licence number SGRH-012 granted by The Scottish Government).

Derbyshire’s blend of market towns offering convenience and rural areas offering space makes it a versatile county for rescue dog adoption. Dogs here are often matched with adopters based on daily routines, experience, and access to outdoor areas such as local trails and countryside. Many rescues covering Derbyshire work closely with foster carers to understand each dog’s needs before rehoming. This careful approach helps ensure dogs are placed into homes where they can thrive long term.
