Herefordshire’s largely rural landscape makes it well suited to rescue dogs that thrive in quieter surroundings and consistent routines. Dogs adopted here are often matched with homes offering outdoor space, regular companionship, and a slower pace of life. Many rescues covering Herefordshire work closely with neighbouring counties due to the county’s size and population. Local adoption supports careful matching and long-term stability for dogs in need of a second chance.

Bear, a 6 years old male Akita available for adoption from HW Animal Rescue in Herefordshire

HW Animal Rescue

Bear

Herefordshire
SexMale
Age6 years
BreedAkita

Handsome Bear was adopted from HWAR around 5 years ago but has recently been returned to our care as family life has changed and Bear just isn’t thriving or enjoying living within a larger family unit.Bear is just as wonderful as we remember, the happiest chap with a very sunny disposition, a pleasure to spend time with.Bear is still under assessment but has so far been the perfect gent and 5 star guest. We are beginning to look for Bear’s new home and we have a feeling he’s going to attract a lot of attention In all seriousness, beyond his beautiful appearance, Bear is a large, strong dog who needs an owner who has excellent knowledge and experience of owning large dogs, ideally with Akita experience and to understand his grooming requirements. We know a lot of Bears history and know this is what will ensure his happiness.

Bow, a 10 years old male Unknown available for adoption from HW Animal Rescue in Herefordshire

HW Animal Rescue

Bow

Herefordshire
SexMale
Age10 years
BreedUnknown

Stunning Bow is a beautiful blue in colour, he’s super excitable and nothing is done slowly or gently. We would hope that when he settles into a home environment he will calm nicely, everything is just so fun and exciting, so exciting that he doesn’t know what to do with himself.Bow is very friendly with people and would make a great adventuring companion. We are looking for a home with experience of owning similar breeds, an active lifestyle will be essential as Bow wouldn’t currently be satisfied with a sedate lifestyle and a short walk each day.A home without small pets will be required, a home with another compatible dog may be a possibility.Any children living within the home or regularly visiting would need to be 10 years+, we have no previous history for Bow and he’s like a rocket with a whippy tail.

BreedStaffordshire Bull Terrier

This gorgeous lady may be reaching her twilight years but nothing is going to stop her, she has places to go and people to see…Edna is such a little sweetheart and is lucky enough to have been staying with her wonderful foster carers for a little while now but we would absolutely love for her to find her forever family.A pet free home will be essential as Edna is not happy with sharing her space with other animals. You would need an incredibly secure garden as Edna loves to explore.

Fraser, a 10 years old male Lurcher available for adoption from HW Animal Rescue in Herefordshire

HW Animal Rescue

Fraser

Herefordshire
SexMale
Age10 years
BreedLurcher

He may be a big strong lad but in reality he’s a big softie who gets easily frightened by new things, a sweetheart who enjoys human company.Sadly he’s not experienced much in life so everything is either very exciting or very scary.Fraser will need an active home where he can learn to socialise in the outside world.Any children within the home or regular visiting children must be 10 years+ as Fraser can be very boisterous and we have no history for him.A home without small pets will be required, a home with another kind dog may be possible but it must be a dog that is able to cope with Fraser’s over- enthusiasm at times.

Gus, a 3 years old male Dobermann available for adoption from HW Animal Rescue in Herefordshire

HW Animal Rescue

Gus

Herefordshire
SexMale
Age3 years
BreedDobermann

Handsome lad Gus has had quite an unstable background so we would love to find him his forever home where he will be loved and cherished just how he deserves! He needs stability, security and a safe home environment where he can flourish.Gus was brought into this country with cropped ears, the one didn’t take so he’s been left with one floppy ear and one that’s upright! On arrival Gus was thin and in poor condition, he’s now looking & feeling fabulous and weighs a healthy 38kg.Gus is a big strong boy, he needs a bit of time and patience to help him walk nicely to heel on lead, however he will walk well with a little help from a halti head collar. We are looking for an owner who is experienced with Dobermanns, Gus is very unique and has the quirkiest character, quite the clown!!Gus has always met new people well and is a sociable soul.We are searching for a pet free and child free home.Gus is incredibly clumsy and has no idea what size he is, he can be very enthusiastic with his affection and love so has to be reminded of his manners.Gus would make the most wonderful companion if he could be the centre of attention and have a one to one environment.

Harriet, a 3 years old female Old English Sheepdog available for adoption from HW Animal Rescue in Herefordshire

HW Animal Rescue

Harriet

Herefordshire
SexFemale
Age3 years
BreedOld English Sheepdog

Our darling little Harriet arrived with us as a stray, sadly she wasn’t claimed so finds herself searching for a new family. We would love her to find herself a wonderful family who will absolutely adore and cherish her how she truly deserves.Harriet is a jolly girl who has loved everyone she has met, she is very sociable and loves attention.Harriet knows all basic commands and is generally very well behaved, sadly though, she doesn’t enjoy the company of all dogs, she shows signs of perhaps having bad experiences previously which has resulted in her sometimes needing her own space. This is something we are working on and any new owner would need to be committed to the continuation of her training and socialisation.A semi rural/ rural home would be best suited so that she can gain confidence without too much pressure. As we have no previous history for Harriet, any resident children in the home would need to be 12 years +, she can also be quite boisterous when excited.A beautiful girl that needs a second chance with a responsible owner by her side.

Lexi, a 6 years old female Siberian Husky available for adoption from HW Animal Rescue in Herefordshire

HW Animal Rescue

Lexi

Herefordshire
SexFemale
Age6 years
BreedSiberian Husky

Lexi has only been with us a short time but we all absolutely adore her already, she is what we would call ’Best friend material’.Lexi would suit a home where there is someone home for the majority of the time as she does really enjoy human companionship. She has also lived happily alongside a child so a home with respectful and sensible children is possible, we are sure she would love a couple of teenagers to play with too.As Lexi has never lived with any other pets we feel this would be the best option for her, although she doesn’t have any issues meeting dogs whilst out and about.Lexi has all her basic training, she will also play with you with her ball, all day long.If you are in the running for a beautiful furry bestie to share your home and lots of fun adventures with then we would love to hear from you.

Percy, a 8 years old male German Shepherd available for adoption from HW Animal Rescue in Herefordshire

HW Animal Rescue

Percy

Herefordshire
SexMale
Age8 years
BreedGerman Shepherd

Majestic Percy is searching for his new family after arriving as a stray around Christmas time.We have been working hard to get Percy’s coat in to shape as he was very matted, this has taken some time as we have been doing small amounts to make it less stressful for him, luckily he has been very tolerant. On arrival Percy was very underweight but we are pleased to say he has been gaining weight well and after full vets checks appears to be very healthy, he certainly doesn’t act like a dog of his age. A German shepherd experienced home, with excellent knowledge of managing his coat. An owner who is active, Percy can be very strong on the lead but walks nicely if using a gentle leader or similar.Percy is a big lad and shows typical traits of a loyal and intelligent German Shepherd, he has met new people without any issues but would benefit from bonding with a special person or two.
