Merseyside’s urban setting means rescue dogs are often matched carefully to suit city living and busy households. Many dogs adopted here benefit from structured routines, access to green spaces, and adopters with experience or time to commit to training. Local rescues focus on ensuring dogs are comfortable in urban environments before rehoming. Adopting locally helps support dogs transitioning successfully into city life.

Angus

Age7 years
BreedLurcher

Are you right for Angus?Angus is looking for a home where he will be the only dog, and any children over the age of 14. He is house trained but will need someone at home with him all day initially whilst he settles in, as he has previously shown signs of being distressed if left alone. He will need multiple meets at the centre and a sleepover or two before going home for good.Is Angus right for you?If you're looking for a cuddle buddy then your search is over! Angus has ambitions of being a lap dog and folds his legs as small as he can in an attempt to get close to his favourite people. He gets very excited when he sees his handlers and just adores being made a fuss of, and loves being taken out for his walks. When out and about, Angus is strong on his lead and his carers have worked on his interactions with other dogs, and he can now walk close to others without worry. He's a confident boy who loves to explore new spaces and views any bed as his own, quickly plonking himself down in one! Angus arrived in our care as a stray, and we're pretty sure he has been used as a working dog as he has scars on his face and is missing a small part of his lip. It doesn't hinder him in any way and certainly doesn't affect his strong, handsome face. Due to his background, we do walk Angus muzzled to protect our wildlife, and he isn't bothered one bit by this. Angus is a very loving dog who deserves a brighter future at the heart of a family. He's a joy to be with and will bring immense pleasure to his new family.

Barney

Merseyside
SexMale
Age10 years
BreedCrossbreed

Are you right for Barney?Barney needs a special family who are willing to work with him, and allow him time to settle without pushing him. It's essential that Barney lives in a quiet, child and pet free environment, preferably with few visitors, and has his own garden. He is under a training program at the centre that will need to be kept up in the home, and he will need multiple meets here before he goes home. Full support will be given by our Training and Behaviour Team, throughout all stages of Barney's adoption, and his adopters must be willing to work closely with the team. Although Barney will walk with dogs he's had a proper introduction to, he will need to be the only dog in the home. He is a super boy who just needs someone to commit to him, and make slow introductions to new people and places. Barney needs time to get to know his new family before he goes home, and will need multiple visits at the centre. Is Barney right for you?Barney is a lively 9 year old boy who is bursting with energy and is raring to go. He's incredibly smart and loves training, so we're hoping to find a family with an interest in carrying this on. When he's not out and about, Barney is happy to lounge across the back of his sofa in a very cat like fashion. He's an agility star too, and will often leap on the equipment and show off his skills! When Barney's in the mood, he can be a real snuggler, and likes to be close by you, just watching the world go by.

Baxter, a 2 years old male Mastiff available for adoption from Dogs Trust in Merseyside

Baxter

Merseyside
SexMale
Age2 years
BreedMastiff

Are you right for Baxter?Baxter is looking for a home where any children are over 16 and he can be the only pet. His family will need to be committed to ongoing training to work on his impulse control and social skills. Baxter is fully house trained but may need a refresher, and he does enjoy some solo time although that may have to be built up gradually whilst he settles in.Is Baxter right for you? With ears that point any which way but up, Baxter is one of the most recognisable and daftest dogs at our Merseyside centre! He’s three years old and full of potential, he just needs his hero to come and meet him. His needs are quite particular, but you’ll be rewarded with a lifetime of love and devotion and are absolutely guaranteed some laughs along the way. Baxter is incredibly intelligent and is a very cuddly boy once he's settled with you. He adores his training sessions with his best pal Rachel, and has made great progress, learning to manage his daft lad impulses! He walks beautifully on his lead and enjoys the company of other dogs, but he is way too physical in play to be off lead with them, and as he’s such a powerful dog we have to be careful he doesn’t get too giddy and accidentally upset someone! He loves to play with his toys and has learnt to settle happily by himself, quite content with his own company. Baxter has worked so very hard to become the wonderful friend he is and this has helped us formulate training plans for him in the home. He is such a loving and lovable dog and deserves to find his own family, they just need to be robust and up for some training!

Beauty, a 3 years old female Staffordshire Bull Terrier available for adoption from Dogs Trust in Merseyside

Dogs Trust

Beauty

Merseyside
SexFemale
Age3 years
BreedStaffordshire Bull Terrier

Are you right for Beauty?Beauty is looking for a home with a special family that can help her overcome her abandonment. She needs to be the only dog at home and to live with just adults, as she has appeared worried by children at the centre. We have no history for her and can’t say for sure that she’s used to spending time alone or is house trained. Beauty is going to need all her basic training and a family that is committed to doing things at her pace.Is Beauty right for you?Beauty has been through a very stressful time recently and found centre life to be very difficult to get to grips with. After moving her to a quieter kennel she has settled very well and is noticeably happier. She’s a lively and friendly dog who likes a quiet life with her favourite people, and she has formed lovely bonds with her handlers very quickly. New people are quickly approved by Beauty if they have some titbits to offer her, and she does love to snuggle up close to people. Snacks will be the key to Beauty's training too. Although she will need to be the only pet in the home, Beauty would benefit from some sensible and controlled socialisation outside. Given some time to decompress, Beauty is a girl who loves to learn. She already knows some of her basic training and a cute trick or two but would benefit from continuing this to build her confidence and help her to settle. She has been thoroughly enjoying playing ball in our off-lead areas and has been wowing us all with her agility skills. If you enjoy active days and evenings snuggling on the sofa then Beauty could be just the pal you are looking for! With a little patience and understanding it shouldn't take long to see Beauty's fun-loving nature shine through. She is an active young lady and would love it if her new family were able to provide her with all the physical and mental stimulation she needs, and plenty of reassurance when she is feeling worried.

Bella

BreedPug

Are you right for Bella?Bella can live with children of high school age but not other dogs. She has lived with cats before but she does chase them outside of the home. She has recently had surgery to improve her breathing and has made a full recovery. Bella is house trained but becomes stressed if left alone for any length of time.Is Bella right for you?Bella came in to our care incredibly overweight and with some obvious difficulties with her breathing. She has been in a foster home where she has been able to lose weight steadily until she was ready for BOAS surgery and is now a whole new dog! Bella is very friendly with people and loves having visitors in her foster home, greeting them excitedly at the door and happily jumping on welcoming laps. She has been brilliant in her foster home but does sometimes ask to be let out during the night, or is disturbed at times by lights outside and finding a nighttime routine that suits her is a work in progress! Something we know that Bella really struggles with is the TV, more so when there are animal on it. She will lunge and bark at the TV. Her foster family are receiving advice from our Behaviour team on this, as will her adopters. Bella finds exercise a lot easier now she's in better shape, and can be surprisingly strong on her lead! She is very reactive when she spots another dog and she's being taught to focus on her handler instead.

Bella

Merseyside
SexFemale
Age6 years
BreedJack Russell Terrier

Are you right for Bella?Bella is looking for a home without children as her experiences with them haven't always been positive, and she will also need to be the only dog in the home as she lacks confidence around others. She is house trained and can be left alone for an hour or two. Bella will need multiple meets at the centre to build a bond with her new family. Is Bella right for you?Five-year-old Bella is looking for a quiet life. She is an active girl, still young, but she worries about sudden noises so a household with few visitors would be ideal. Bella forms strong bonds with people, but she may take her time to trust you as she's quite unsure of new folks. She loves to play with her toys, but she likes removing the squeakers even more! There are times when she has stood over her toys when someone has approached them so her adopters must be sure to leave her be with them and not try to take them from her. Bella can be very selective with the company she keeps, and she does have potential to have some quiet dog pals that won’t force her to interact. With the right family that will allow her time to stop and get comfortable, Bella will thrive.

She likes to be busy, busy, busy, people to see and things to do! She’s a lot of fun and loves her toys, one is never enough so you’ll need a few to trade with her if you want something back. Belle can be quite nervous in new situations, whether it’s a different place or an unfamiliar person, but she builds a nice bond after a few meets. Belle doesn’t enjoy being disturbed in her resting places and should be left alone when relaxing. She has shown aggression over this in the past but if left alone there shouldn’t be an issue. Belle really does love to be out and about but she’s keen on wildlife so best to keep her away from any small furries. She’s also reactive to other dogs and this will need to worked on. Belle is super smart and as long as she has a supportive family that are happy to put in a little training with her, life should be grand.

He is house trained and can be left alone for about three hours without issue. Is Ben right for you?Ben is a sweet lad, on the small size for a Greyhound, he’s often dwarfed by his bigger buddies! He was a shy dog when he first arrived but he’s settled very well and is very sociable, he loves to go out for walks with a few of his pals to the nearby park. Ben is great with people, he readily says hello to everyone and enjoys being made a fuss of, doing the typical Greyhound “lean” to encourage more contact. He really comes alive with his toys and loves to throw them around when he’s off lead, in between zoomie bursts! Ben is a super chap, he would delight any Greyhound fan and who can resist those appealing eyes of his?! He has been briefly rehomed but did not enjoy being disturbed when resting. Betty, a 8 years old female Crossbreed available for adoption from Dogs Trust in Merseyside

Betty

Merseyside

BreedCrossbreed

Are you right for Betty?Betty can live with children of high school age however will need to be the only dog in the home as she doesn't seem to want to interact with others. She is house trained and can be left alone for a few hours without worry. Betty has had ongoing problems with her knee since she came into our care in need of surgery some time ago, and suffered repeated infections in the surgical site. She needs daily pain relief and is currently having hydrotherapy, and improving. She will need some kind of medical care for the rest of her life and if the cost of this would be the only barrier to you adopting her, we would still love to hear from you as some financial assistance may be available. Is Betty right for you?Oooh, Betty! She's a friendly girl who makes sure to greet everyone who passes by so they can have the full Betty experience. She just adores company and would love a family who can be with her most of the time. Betty is so affectionate and loves to smother her humans in kisses and she just lives for little kisses on her own head. She spent a while in a foster home whilst recovering from knee surgery and was impeccably behaved, never putting a paw wrong. A bright spark, she knows lots of commands and even plays dead when someone says "bang!". Betty likes to spend her days happily lazing in an armchair taking part in the neighbourhood watch, and then sleeping where her people are, not necessarily on the bed but certainly in the same room. Betty is good on her lead but won’t think twice about sticking her head in a bush if she thinks there’s wildlife in there! When she spots another dog, she can be vocal and doesn’t really care to interact with them. Toys are a different matter; Betty loves anything with fluff in it, making sure it doesn’t stay that way for long until she triumphantly emerges with just the squeaker! She’s been in our care since September 2024 and we just adore her sweet and loving nature, but we’d love nothing more for her than to see her head off to her forever home with a family that deserves her.

Bridget, a 1 year old female American Bulldog available for adoption from Dogs Trust in Merseyside

Dogs Trust

Bridget

Merseyside
SexFemale
Age1 year
BreedAmerican Bulldog

Are you right for Bridget?Bridget needs a home where she can be the only pet whilst she focuses on her training, and any children are teenagers. Her family will need to be committed to putting in some work with her and full support will be given from the team at the centre, and we would advise researching the Catahoula Leopard Dog before applying to adopt. Three of Bridget's litter mates have heart issues but she does not, but she may need monitoring in the future. Is Bridget right for you?Little Bridget is something of a wild child! Still a pup, she's looking for a family that ideally have an interest in dog training, as she's a cross Catahoula Leopard Dog, a very smart and switched on breed with a strong drive to work. She has recently been returned to our care and is a little unsure about her current circumstances. At times Bridget is very confident and at others very hesitant and wary. She's an affectionate dog who enjoys contact but is easily excited and often resorts to grabbing clothing and hands. Her new family will need to guide her away from these types of behaviours rather than punish her. Bridget loves to play and there are certain games that would be great outlet for her puppy drives and help her control her impulses. She lacks a lot of confidence around other dogs although she tries to play with some, she runs away when they reciprocate. We have no doubts that Bridget will be a wonderful dog at the heart of the right family and our training team are happy to discuss any of her needs with potential adopters.
