Bear came into our care as a terrified and disorientated pup. After being attacked by his parents at the breeders and nearly dying he has passed through 3 homes. The last being a home with 3 young children where he growled at the father on the day he arrived and the police were called and he was poled and marked for destruction at the police kennels. He wasn't vaccinated because he wasn't going to live. He had been in the police kennels for 2 weeks when we picked him up and he still reeked of cannabis.Bear will need several visits so he can gain trust with you and will need to go to an adult only home.

HW Animal Rescue

Handsome Bear was adopted from HWAR around 5 years ago but has recently been returned to our care as family life has changed and Bear just isn’t thriving or enjoying living within a larger family unit.Bear is just as wonderful as we remember, the happiest chap with a very sunny disposition, a pleasure to spend time with.Bear is still under assessment but has so far been the perfect gent and 5 star guest.We are beginning to look for Bear’s new home and we have a feeling he’s going to attract a lot of attention In all seriousness, beyond his beautiful appearance, Bear is a large, strong dog who needs an owner who has excellent knowledge and experience of owning large dogs, ideally with Akita experience and to understand his grooming requirements.We know a lot of Bears history and know this is what will ensure his happiness.

She absolutely loves fusses and cuddles and is instantly friendly with new people, though she can be wary of individuals wearing hats or hoods—she may bark and back away until she feels safe. Chanel would suit a calm, understanding home that can give her reassurance and patience in these moments. She enjoys her walks and is happy to be around other dogs, but can be initially nervous and prefers gentle introductions. If things become too noisy or boisterous, she’ll quietly remove herself, showing her sensitive and thoughtful nature. Chanel also enjoys her toys and will happily entertain herself or engage in play with her humans.Is Chanel right for you?Chanel is a gentle, well-mannered girl who could happily live with primary school-aged children who are confident around larger dogs and respectful of her space. Are you right for Chip?Cheerful Chip is looking for his forever home with adopters who are up for a challenge with our big goofball and have had experience with large/high-energy breeds! He would like a family that can provide ongoing training as well as physical and mental stimulation, as Chip loves using his clever brain. He is a large boy and can become overwhelmed and overly excited at times, so he will need a family willing to help him learn to manage his frustration. Our team has been working hard with him to build up his life skills and training to make his transition to home life smoother. Chip can live with children 16+ who are dog-savvy and have visitors who are a bit younger, but this would need to be managed sensibly. He will need and love to have a private garden to explore and burn some energy off in. His dream home will be in a quiet and rural area. Chip will need to be the only pet in the home. Once settled, he would really benefit from having some calm walking buddies. He is a happy pup, yet he can be worried by loud noises and the car and will look for reassurance in certain situations. Any leave time will need to be built up slowly. Chip is looking for a family which is happy to come in and do multiple meets with him, work closely with our behaviour team and be available for a home visit before he is adopted.Is Chip right for you?Chip is a super clever young boy who is very eager to learn and do well. He is keen to learn new tricks and enjoys his training and enrichment, especially if tasty treats are involved. He is an active dog who enjoys his walks and adores getting lots of fuss and attention. Chip would love an active home that can take him on adventures and show him the world. He will thrive in a home that has the time and patience to let him explore the world in his own goofy way, whilst also providing him with training and guidance to help him be the best dog he can be. COCOCoco is a 3-year-old Akita who came into Rescue with her brother Randy. She has never lived indoors, but she is beautifully clean in her kennel, loves cuddles and is the most affectionate girl. Needs a home with no cats and will probably need to be the only dog.See on FacebookADOPT

Cooper is a sweet boy who came to the centre via an an inspector after his previous owner could no longer meet his needs. He is a shy boy when meeting new people so will need a nice patient adopter who will bring out the best in him. Once he has settled and built a bond with you he is sweetest, most loving and playful boy you could want. Cooper had a tough start to life and missed out on most of his early learning and socialising which is why he lacks confidence in the big wide world.Cooper has built a bond with the staff and is coming out of his shell and learning to love life, he has been getting used to things at a slow pace as to not overwhelm him. He loves his walks and being out and about, he loves his zoomies when off lead in our secure compound. Cooper is a very loyal dog and looks to his handlers to keep him safe when he is in unfamiliar surroundings. Cooper is a fun and playful boy who will make the most wonderful addition to the family.Cooper will need an adult only pet free home, although he is sociable with most dogs out on a walk, he will be better in a home where he is the only pet.

Alpet Poundies Rescue

DAVEDave, one of our Akita special needs pups, has been returned through no fault of his own. 20-months-old now, he would love to find his forever home. He is fine with most dogs and he lived with a cat and a baby in his previous home. He has limited hearing so no off-lead work as he can't hear you, but training with hand signals is the way round his lack of hearing. He goes out regularly on outings with one of our volunteers and is very well behaved meeting people and dogs in the park and on the beach.See on FacebookADOPT

Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home

Finn is looking for an experienced owner who have owned large dogs before and can handle them. He would like to be kept company for some of the day whilst he settles in. He is looking to be the only pet but may be able to live with older children who won’t be worried by his boisterous nature. Finn is an extremely friendly, lovable boy who adores making friends anywhere he goes. He loves a cuddle and is very affectionate but is equally quite happy going off doing his own thing whether that be playing with his toys or sniffing out all the interesting smells. Finn definitely does not realise his size and his enthusiasm when he says hello does get the better of him, so he requires an owner who have had large dogs before and are willing to work on his manners. He is more of a ladies’ man when it comes to his canine friends so his new owner will need to be able to manage him when it comes to introducing him to other dogs.
