American Akita crossbreed White and black 9 Years (approx) Ref: 198/26 AJ is a beautiful Akita cross Staffordshire Bull Terrier who came into our care due to a change in his owner’s circumstances. Since arriving at the centre, he has shown himself to be a sensitive and sometimes nervous boy, but with time, patience, and reassurance, his confidence has grown and he has made lots of friends along the way. AJ can be very nervous around children, so we feel he would be best suited to an adultonly home where he can feel safe and secure. While AJ has made dog friends at the centre, we believe he would thrive most as the only dog in the home, where he can enjoy all the love, attention, and spoiling for himself. Beneath his shy exterior is a truly affectionate and lovable character looking for a calm, relaxed home. He would love a family who can take him on adventures during the day before settling down for cuddles together on the sofa in the evening. I know how to sit (and lots of other commands too!) RSPCA

She is a Shepherd/Akita cross and came to us from another independent RSPCA branch where she was very much loved but after two years of searching, they weren't able to find her forever home so we're hoping we can change that. Ava struts around like she owns the place, greets every day with enthusiasm, and is absolutely bursting with character. She's loving, playful, sweet, and loves life, with a sprinkle of aloofness, in true Akita fashion.

HW Animal Rescue

Handsome Bear was adopted from HWAR around 5 years ago but has recently been returned to our care as family life has changed and Bear just isn’t thriving or enjoying living within a larger family unit.Bear is just as wonderful as we remember, the happiest chap with a very sunny disposition, a pleasure to spend time with.Bear is still under assessment but has so far been the perfect gent and 5 star guest.We are beginning to look for Bear’s new home and we have a feeling he’s going to attract a lot of attention In all seriousness, beyond his beautiful appearance, Bear is a large, strong dog who needs an owner who has excellent knowledge and experience of owning large dogs, ideally with Akita experience and to understand his grooming requirements.We know a lot of Bears history and know this is what will ensure his happiness.

Doris Banham Dog Rescue

Bear came into our care as a terrified and disorientated pup. After being attacked by his parents at the breeders and nearly dying he has passed through 3 homes. The last being a home with 3 young children where he growled at the father on the day he arrived and the police were called and he was poled and marked for destruction at the police kennels. He wasn't vaccinated because he wasn't going to live. He had been in the police kennels for 2 weeks when we picked him up and he still reeked of cannabis.Bear will need several visits so he can gain trust with you and will need to go to an adult only home.

Mutts in Distress

Meet Bear a beautiful crossbreed (said to be Rottweiler x Akita). He is only a baby at 9 months old and has had a really horrific start to his short life. Bear came to Mutts after being abandoned in a flat. He was left alone in this flat for several months with someone feeding him through a letter box, surrounded by his own faeces and urine. Despite going through this, he has been totally forgiving of people. He is happy to have attention from the volunteers and even came out on our very busy funday event to greet strangers in the crowd. Bear would enjoy a dog free home. Not cat tested. He could possibly live with older teenagers who are used to larger breeds. Large breed experience is best preferred for Bear. There must be someone out there able to give this beautiful boy the home he deserves and to show him love. He will make an amazing companion for someone.

COCOCoco is a 3-year-old Akita who came into Rescue with her brother Randy. She has never lived indoors, but she is beautifully clean in her kennel, loves cuddles and is the most affectionate girl. Needs a home with no cats and will probably need to be the only dog.See on FacebookADOPT

Cooper is a sweet boy who came to the centre via an an inspector after his previous owner could no longer meet his needs. He is a shy boy when meeting new people so will need a nice patient adopter who will bring out the best in him. Once he has settled and built a bond with you he is sweetest, most loving and playful boy you could want. Cooper had a tough start to life and missed out on most of his early learning and socialising which is why he lacks confidence in the big wide world.Cooper has built a bond with the staff and is coming out of his shell and learning to love life, he has been getting used to things at a slow pace as to not overwhelm him. He loves his walks and being out and about, he loves his zoomies when off lead in our secure compound. Cooper is a very loyal dog and looks to his handlers to keep him safe when he is in unfamiliar surroundings. Cooper is a fun and playful boy who will make the most wonderful addition to the family.Cooper will need an adult only pet free home, although he is sociable with most dogs out on a walk, he will be better in a home where he is the only pet.

Alpet Poundies Rescue

DAVEDave, one of our Akita special needs pups, has been returned through no fault of his own. 2 years old now, he would love to find his forever home. He is fine with most dogs and he lived with a cat and a baby in his previous home. He has limited hearing so no off-lead work as he can't hear you, but training with hand signals is the way round his lack of hearing. He goes out regularly on outings with one of our volunteers and is very well behaved meeting people and dogs in the park and on the beach.See on FacebookADOPT

Meet our handsome Dexter!This boy arrived as a stray and has settled in to kennel life well! He loves everyone and is always looking for someone to spend time with him and play the games he loves! He gets excited when he sees the handlers he knows well and will spring into a happy dance like a puppy!Dexter loves to be outside. He plays with toys on his own and although he does love company, he is more than happy to entertain himself when needed. Akitas are an independent breed and those who have a soft spot for them know they can be aloof and quirky at times. Although Dexter has shown us a glimpse into this side of him, we have mostly seen a truly loving and affectionate dog in him.Dexter quite likes other dogs and will happily join a group walk here at the home, walking alongside other dogs at a distance well. He can be a little unsure when they come right up to his face but we think he could become more confident in time given appropriate socialisation.Dexter is looking for a family with some larger breed experience, preferably with Akitas themselves. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home

Evan is a big, soft-hearted Akita who came to us when his owner could no longer manage the numbers in a multi-dog home.He has had very little experience of walks in recent years, having mainly been exercised in a garden, but is now learning quickly, enjoying his walks and improving with loose lead walking and recall. On site he is affectionate, people-focused, and full of charm. He is calm and laid back, with a funny and goofy side which comes out when he knows you well. A typical Akita, he can be reserved with new people, but warms up quickly and is a very loving boy. He loves a fuss, leans in for attention, and builds strong bonds quickly. Evan is a wonderful example of his breed and will make the most loyal and loving companion. He is still learning how to socialise with other dogs, but has shown no aggression and can calmly sniff and happily walk alongside other dogs when set up well. Evan will suit an experienced home with some existing knowledge of his breed.
