American Akita crossbreed White and black 9 Years (approx) Ref: 198/26 AJ is a beautiful Akita cross Staffordshire Bull Terrier who came into our care due to a change in his owner’s circumstances. Since arriving at the centre, he has shown himself to be a sensitive and sometimes nervous boy, but with time, patience, and reassurance, his confidence has grown and he has made lots of friends along the way.He is a goofy and playful boy who loves to play with toys and enjoys having fusses. AJ walks lovely on lead and is very calm around other dogs. AJ can be nervous and unsure around children, so we feel he would be best suited to an adultonly home where he can feel safe and secure. While AJ has made dog friends at the centre, we believe he would thrive most as the only dog in the home, where he can enjoy all the love, attention, and spoiling for himself. Beneath his shy exterior is a truly affectionate and lovable character looking for a calm, relaxed home. He would love a family who can take him on adventures during the day before settling down for cuddles together on the sofa in the evening.If you are interested in AJ, please email info@rspcasussexwest.org.uk I know how to sit (and lots of other commands too!) RSPCA

She is a Shepherd/Akita cross and came to us from another independent RSPCA branch. Ava struts around like she owns the place, greets every day with enthusiasm, and is absolutely bursting with character. She's loving, playful, sweet, and loves life, with a sprinkle of aloofness, in true Akita fashion. She can be a little vocal if another dog gets too close for comfort on walks, so she needs a home that's happy to give her space and work on this with her. Other than that, she's an absolute dream to be around.

Doris Banham Dog Rescue

Bear came into our care as a terrified and disorientated pup. After being attacked by his parents at the breeders and nearly dying he has passed through 3 homes. The last being a home with 3 young children where he growled at the father on the day he arrived and the police were called and he was poled and marked for destruction at the police kennels. He wasn't vaccinated because he wasn't going to live. He had been in the police kennels for 2 weeks when we picked him up and he still reeked of cannabis.Bear will need several visits so he can gain trust with you and will need to go to an adult only home.

Mutts in Distress

Meet Bear a beautiful crossbreed (said to be Rottweiler x Akita). He is only a baby at 9 months old and has had a really horrific start to his short life. Bear came to Mutts after being abandoned in a flat. He was left alone in this flat for several months with someone feeding him through a letter box, surrounded by his own faeces and urine. Despite going through this, he has been totally forgiving of people. He is happy to have attention from the volunteers and even came out on our very busy funday event to greet strangers in the crowd. Bear would enjoy a dog free home. Not cat tested. He could possibly live with older teenagers who are used to larger breeds. Large breed experience is best preferred for Bear. There must be someone out there able to give this beautiful boy the home he deserves and to show him love. He will make an amazing companion for someone.

Ashbourne Animal Welfare

Bill is a very good looking young lad who found himself in the stray dog pound, along with his Brother, Ted. Unfortunately their time to be reclaimed was up, and we received a desperate email stating that they had less than 24hrs to find a rescue to go to. Thankfully we had room and we took in both of the Brothers.He’s an unusual mix of Greyhound and Akita, but he’s a bit smaller than his brother… he’s a lovely dog! Really friendly and happy! He’s good with people and is happy to say ‘hello’ to everybody. He can be a little hand shy (we assume from some rough treatment in the past). As his history is pretty much unknown, we wouldn’t be able to home him with young children.Bill seems to be good with other dogs… he enjoys playing with his brother, however he isn’t always up for Teds rough games! He’s met other dogs here too, without any problems. He may be able to share his home, but this would depend on a dog meeting. He doesn’t appear to have a strong chase drive either.He’s had very little training, but does currently walk quite well on the lead! He would need a home who are willing to put some time and effort into his training and continue his socialisation with other dogs. As his recall isn’t great (and he was a stray!), we would recommend that he is kept on lead for his walks, and any off lead exercise is in a secure field or a secure garden. He likes a run, his favourite thing to do is have a cuddle with lots of kisses!!Although Bill has always lived with Ted, the pound actually separated them in order to try and find them rescue spaces and they’re still living separate with playdates. We would consider a home together, but they are also fine apart too.

Are you right for Bucky?Bucky has a big personality and is looking for a family experienced in large breed dogs. He is looking for an adult only home and must be the only pet—however would enjoy calm canine walking friends once settled. He would benefit from someone around most of the day until he is settled in his new home. Bucky does enjoy his food—so It would be recommended that he is kept out of the kitchen when cooking.Is Bucky right for you?Although he may be reserved meeting new people, once he knows you he is very affectionate and would be more than happy to keep you warm on those colder days! He does like to use his voice to communicate and he will be sure to keep you entertained! He has shown to be housetrained and travels well In the car. So if you are missing a Bucky shaped hole in your life, please do enquire about him!

Alpet Poundies Rescue

COCOCoco is a 4-year-old Akita who came into Rescue with her brother Randy. She has never lived indoors, but she is beautifully clean in her kennel, loves cuddles and is the most affectionate girl. Needs a home with no cats and will probably need to be the only dog.See on FacebookADOPT

Cooper is a sweet boy who came to the centre via an an inspector after his previous owner could no longer meet his needs. He is a shy boy when meeting new people so will need a nice patient adopter who will bring out the best in him. Once he has settled and built a bond with you he is sweetest, most loving and playful boy you could want. Cooper had a tough start to life and missed out on most of his early learning and socialising which is why he lacks confidence in the big wide world.Cooper has built a bond with the staff and is coming out of his shell and learning to love life, he has been getting used to things at a slow pace as to not overwhelm him. He loves his walks and being out and about, he loves his zoomies when off lead in our secure compound. Cooper is a very loyal dog and looks to his handlers to keep him safe when he is in unfamiliar surroundings. Cooper is a fun and playful boy who will make the most wonderful addition to the family.Cooper will need an adult only pet free home, although he is sociable with most dogs out on a walk, he will be better in a home where he is the only pet.

Alpet Poundies Rescue

DAVEDave, one of our Akita special needs pups, has been returned through no fault of his own. 2 years old now, he would love to find his forever home. He is fine with most dogs and he lived with a cat and a baby in his previous home. He has limited hearing so no off-lead work as he can't hear you, but training with hand signals is the way round his lack of hearing. He goes out regularly on outings with one of our volunteers and is very well behaved meeting people and dogs in the park and on the beach.See on FacebookADOPT
