Alphie, a 7 years old male Beagle available for adoption from Dogs Trust in Berkshire

Berkshire

BreedBeagle

Are you right for Alphie?Alphie is a handsome seven-year-old Beagle cross looking for a new home through no fault of his own, as his owner now needs to travel abroad regularly for work. In true Beagle style, Alphie loves following his nose and exploring the world around him. He is looking for a calm, consistent home where he can take his time getting to know everyone and build a strong bond at his own pace. He could live with children of upper secondary school age who are confident around dogs and able to respect his space. Any visiting children should also be of a similar age. Alphie will need to be the only pet in the home, as he can be selective around other dogs and has a strong prey drive, so he cannot live with cats or other small animals. He will also need a secure, private garden where he can enjoy sniffing, relaxing in a sunny spot and exploring safely. Alphie is comfortable being left for up to four hours once settled, especially if he has a cosy sofa to stretch out on. He will need to remain on lead during walks due to his prey drive and limited recall, but he will happily make the most of long, interesting sniffing adventures with his new family. Is Alphie right for you?Alphie is a curious, clever boy who loves food, treats and anything involving a good scent trail. He may initially be more interested in investigating his surroundings than seeking attention, but as his confidence grows, his affectionate side begins to shine. During his assessment, he gradually started accepting gentle chest rubs and even offered a paw when he wanted a little more fuss. He is a cuddly boy at home and enjoys relaxing close to the people he trusts, although he appreciates being given space while sleeping. Like many Beagles, Alphie knows exactly what he likes and prefers ceramic food bowls to metal ones. He eats enthusiastically, so currently uses a slow feeder to help him enjoy his meals at a steadier pace. Alphie can sometimes pick up items he should not have and may become worried if someone tries to take them directly from him. His new family will need to continue using positive swaps with high-value treats and manage the home carefully to prevent tempting items being left within reach (socks included!). He enjoys playing ball and tug with his favourite toy pig, although he is best suited to sturdy toys as he may ingest softer ones. New toys should be introduced carefully, as he can initially feel protective of new unfamiliar items. Alphie is looking for patient adopters who will respect his boundaries, continue his training and give him the time he needs to trust. In return, they will gain a loyal, characterful friend who loves sniffy walks, sunny snoozes and curling up near his favourite people.

Everyone, meet Alvin! Alvin is a handsome 8 year old Beagle who is every bit the classic Beagle hound. He can happily be a lazy lump when it’s time to relax, but the moment that nose hits the ground, he’s off on his next adventure! Alvin is a gentle, settled boy who enjoys life’s simple pleasures and has a lovely, easy-going nature. He absolutely loves the companionship of other dogs and currently shares his kennel with Kara, who is also looking for a home. However, we also feel Alvin would settle beautifully in a home with another friendly resident dog. Alvin is brilliant with children, has previously lived with cats, and has impeccable manners. Honestly, we struggle to find anything negative to say about him! If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate companion with a wonderful temperament and that unmistakable Beagle charm, Alvin could be the perfect addition to your family. ️

MEET BINGO This gorgeous 2-year-old bundle of happiness is Bingo… and we just can’t believe he’s been overlooked for so long! Bingo has sadly spent over 12 months with another rescue without any interest So we’ve stepped in to help this amazing boy finally find the forever home he deserves. And honestly? We have NO idea why he’s been waiting… Bingo is the kind of dog who wakes up excited about life every single day. He thrives on attention, loves making new friends (human and canine!), and will happily be your shadow and your adventure buddy. He can be strong on the lead, but since starting to walk on a headcollar he’s doing so much better with continued guidance and consistency, he’ll keep improving. Because he gets so excited during play, he can sometimes become a little mouthy. This isn’t nasty behaviour — just an over-enthusiastic, playful lad who will need ongoing training and boundaries to help him channel that excitement appropriately. He’s young, eager, and ready to learn but would probably do best in a home without young children. Bingo would love an active home that can continue his training, give him plenty of exercise, and shower him with the love he’s been waiting far too long for. After a whole year without interest, let’s make sure Bingo’s next chapter is his best one yet! If you are interested in this handsome boy please email us for an application form - info@forest-dog-rescue.org.uk
