BreedBullmastiff

Bleu is a 5-year-old English Bullmastiff weighing an impressive 51.6kg. He came into Islay Dog Rescue through no fault of his own, following a change in his family's circumstances. When Bleu arrived, our team quickly recognised that he was suffering from severe Brachycephalic Airway Syndrome, which was causing significant breathing difficulties. Thanks to the incredible generosity of a kind couple who support Islay, Bleu has now undergone corrective surgery. The improvement in his breathing, overall health, and comfort has been immediate and truly life-changing.Bleu is a gentle, affectionate giant who loves spending time with people. He has previously lived with children, but due to his size and strength, we feel he would be best suited to a home with dog-savvy children aged 12 years and over.He gets on well with other dogs and, with careful introductions, we believe he could happily live with a resident canine companion. He is an intelligent boy with a typical Bullmastiff stubborn streak, so he'll need experienced adopters who understand the traits and needs of large mastiff breeds. Bleu already knows several basic commands, including sit, down, and paw.He generally walks nicely on the lead, although if he catches an interesting scent, he'll happily follow his nose! As Bleu is an incredibly strong dog, his new family should be physically capable of handling him on walks and committed to continuing his training using positive, reward-based methods.Bleu has not yet been cat tested, but this can be arranged if required. His previous owners advised that he is house trained.

Buzz

Greater Manchester
SexMale

BreedBullmastiff

Are you right for Buzz?Buzz can become mouthy when overexcited or overwhelmed so is looking for a home with just adults who are comfortable giving him the time to settle. We are looking for adopters that have the ability to separate him in the home due to this. He is happy to say hello and can make friends with dogs out and about but at times can get a little too over the top off so is best suited to be the only dog in the home. He cannot live with cats but could live with small pets if they are kept separately from him. Buzz is looking for a home who are happy to keep him on lead out and about. He can struggle to settle during car journeys so a home where it isn't essential for him to travel frequently is best. Buzz will require home trials to help him settle into his forever home, therefore we are looking for adopters who live within 30 minutes of the Manchester centre to facilitate this.Is Buzz right for you?Buzz is our handsome 7-year-old Mastiff crossbreed looking for his forever home, he is enthusiastic for life and eager for his next adventure. Buzz hasn’t had the best of luck during his time with us but has a lot of love to give to his next home! This boy is the biggest lap dog you’ll ever meet; he is super food orientated too so this is great for his training, which he finds a lot of fun! In his previous home, Buzz could be left for up to 6 hours so could suit a working home. He enjoys spending his time here making new friends (people & dogs) and going for walking adventures with his pals.

Kong, a 3 years old male Bullmastiff available for adoption from Manchester and Cheshire Dogs Home in Greater Manchester

Kong

Greater Manchester
SexMale
Age3 years
BreedBullmastiff

Kong is a loveable and friendly giant who is always happy, and maybe a little too enthusiastic, to say hello to everyone he meets. Kong is still only a young boy so doesn’t know his strength and size. Further training will need to be done to ensure he can be taught manners. Kong does currently like to jump up so a family with experience around large breeds would be beneficial. Kong is a sweet boy and always greets staff in the morning with a blanket in his mouth and a very waggy tail!Kong came into our care as a stray from another kennels so we don’t have any history on him or know if he has lived in a home before. Due to this and his size, Kong is best to be rehomed to an adult only home.Kong has interacted well with friendly dogs whilst in our care but can be very boisterous and over the top. He will need continuous socialisation to help train him to react appropriately around dogs. He could potentially be rehomed with another dog that has a calm and friendly temperament but it is preferred for him to be the only dog in the home so that he can get all of the attention to help with his training. This would be subject to a successful meet.We are unsure how Kong would react around cats. Please do not apply for a dog if you have a holiday within the next 3 months.

Red

Essex

BreedBullmastiff

Are you right for Red?Red is a 6-year-old Bullmastiff Cross currently in foster care, where she has shown herself to be a friendly, curious, and affectionate companion. She enjoys meeting new people, though she prefers to introduce herself at her own pace and can sometimes be a little slow to initiate contact. Red forms strong bonds with her humans and thrives on companionship, but she does experience separation anxiety, so any time left alone will need to be built up gradually and with patience. She is fully housetrained and travels well in the car, making her a great partner for outings and adventures. Red is currently in Foster Care and therefore not available to view in the centre without a prior appointment. To show your interest in Red, please favourite her within your online application. Is Red right for you?Red loves being outdoors and exploring, happily enjoying walks of an hour or more, especially if she has her beloved ball to carry along—she’s always ready for a game of fetch. She is comfortable around smaller dogs and can pass them calmly, but she can feel nervous around larger dogs and may become vocal. For this reason, she would do best as the only dog in the home, though she could potentially live with cats or small furries. Red could also live teens and who have experience with larger breeds. She would benefit from a home with a private garden where she can burn off energy and relax—she particularly enjoys sunbathing. Above all, Red is incredibly cuddly and is looking for a patient, devoted home where she can feel secure and loved. Red does have ongoing medical to be discussed with any new potential adopters.
