Bella is a lovely, lively, eleven year old who is looking for her forever home.She is a very active girl who needs lots of exercise and mental stimulation to keep her happy.At the moment Bella is walked twice a day for around 45 minutes but ideally she would benefit from longer walks and the opportunity to run off lead in a safe, secure area, to burn off her surplus energy. 5yrs old Charlie is a lovely boy who really needs a home to call his own, he has learned so much while in our care and is ready to become part of a loving family. When Charlie first came to NWESSR he was quite traumatised by finding himself in kennels, but with patience and understanding he has relaxed and learnt so much. He is accomplished at ‘sit and stay’, gives a paw, high fives and nose touches. His recall is fine and he understands ‘drops for swaps’ especially as he is treat orientated. He adores swimming and absolutely loves sniffing games especially in the woods and is very good at them! Charlie is walked with another young NWESSR dog who he tolerates remarkably well. He is strong on the lead, but is learning loose lead walking and this will improve with repetition. Our dogwalker sums him up as follows; he is an “absolute heart melter”. Charlie is generally a calm, well-mannered dog, he can be a bit nervous in some situations, but with patience and the right treatment he will learn to overcome this. Charlie is looking for a pet free home with a couple who are at home most of the time and can both be involved in his daily care, exercise and games. They would need to continue his training and mental stimulation and, together with lots of love, this clever boy will give so much joy and companionship in return. New owners will also have the pleasure of knowing they have given this beautiful boy his ‘happy ever after’. Clippa is a wonderful girl who came to us from a breeder in search of a fresh start. From the moment she arrived, she showed us what a loving and affectionate little girl she is. Whilst in our care at the rescue, Clippa quickly became a favourite with staff and volunteers thanks to her happy nature and love of human attention. She adored going out on walks with volunteers, loved exploring the Welsh countryside and was always happiest when she was close to people getting cuddles and fuss. She also got on brilliantly with her kennel friends and enjoyed the company of other dogs.She has now moved to a foster home where she has continued to blossom and has settled beautifully into home life. On arrival, she immediately made it her mission to explore every single inch of the garden, showing just how adventurous and inquisitive she is! Because of this, she will need a very secure garden with minimum 6ft fencing as she is an active little spaniel who loves to investigate everything around her.We think that Clippa is a bit hard of hearing and doesn't hear human voices easily. This doesn't slow her down, but, for this reason future adopters will need to be aware that she will likely need to be on lead for her walks and be let off only in secure fields to keep her safe.Clippa is an incredibly affectionate and people orientated dog who absolutely adores human company. Visitors are instantly greeted by Clippa demanding cuddles, belly rubs and attention, and she will happily snuggle into you whenever given the opportunity. Although she enjoys playing with polite dogs and gets on wonderfully with the resident dogs in foster, people will always be her favourite. When first in foster she did experience some separation anxiety, her fosterers have already worked hard on building her confidence and independence, and her future adopters will need to continue this, gradually building up the time she is left.She has taken to home life brilliantly and despite having never lived in a home before, she has been clean around the house, with no accidents indoors. She settles beautifully overnight and loves curling up somewhere warm and cosy with her foster family. In fact, she gets so comfortable at bedtime that convincing her to go outside for her final toilet trip can sometimes be a challenge!Clippa absolutely LOVES her walks and thrives on getting out and exploring the world around her. She would love an active home that understands the busy, intelligent and inquisitive nature of spaniels and can provide her with plenty of mental and physical stimulation. She already walks well on lead most of the time, although she can sometimes be strong and excitable when out and about. At the moment, her recall is non-existent in secure fields as she is far too busy exploring to pay attention, so her adopters will need to be committed to continuing her training with this.She could happily be homed as an only dog as long as her adopters were around most of the time and had plenty of time to spend with her, but she could also be homed with another kind and playful resident dog. She could live with gentle dog savvy teenagers but cannot live with cats or small furries.Clippa arrived in our care with bilateral conjunctivitis which responded very well to treatment and continues to be monitored. She also had one tooth removed at the time of her spay.Clippa is such a happy, loving and affectionate little girl who has embraced her new life with enthusiasm. Whether she is out exploring, making new friends, or snuggled up for cuddles, she throws herself wholeheartedly into everything she does. Meet Emily – A Special Girl Looking for Her Forever Home Emily, is nearly 12yrs old but looks and acts like a 5yr old. She is such a loveable character and the easiest of dogs to live with.Emily came to NWESSR as her lady owner died and then her male owner was diagnosed with cancer.Soon after Emily arrived we discovered she had a mass in her abdomen. It was removed and thankfully it turned out to be benign. Emily is a strong character and has bounced back remarkably well.Emily is very bright with a mischievous streak, a true “paragon of virtue”. She is incredibly sweet, affectionate and loves a cuddle. Around the home, Emily is calm and beautifully behaved.Outside she is a proper little live wire who loves to run, explore and make the most of every walk. Never venturing too far and always keeping her person in sight. She has a gentle temperament and gets on well with children and other dogs .Emily has wanted to ingratiate herself with whoever she was with at the time, she just wants her own person/people. She really is a one-in-a-million girl, Whoever is lucky enough to welcome Emily into their home will gain an incredibly loyal, loving, and devoted friend. I am mainly black with a tiny spot of white on my chest. It took me a long time to settle when coming in to foster, I was anxious and would pace and found it difficult to relax. However, after a few weeks I began to settle well and now love my snoozes on the couch cuddling up to my foster mum. My foster mum thinks I’ve not had a lot of experience of different environments or meeting new people and dogs. I’m loving my woodland walks but can still be spooked by some of the sights and sounds around me and will need experience of different places to build my confidence. I do walk really well in my harness and extendable lead and my recall is excellent. When I do meet other people and dogs, I will bark but we have been practising walking in places where I can see other people and dogs at a distance. This is helping to build my confidence, and I am coping much better now when I am out and about. I am fed twice a day on dry kibble and love my fruit and veg. My foster mum says I would steal and eat anything in reach, but I am slowly learning good manners. I have heaps of energy and love a good run around the garden. I’m not too fussed about balls at the moment but love cuddly toys and finding things around the house which my foster mum usually finds in my bed. I follow my foster mum everywhere and really don’t like being in a different room. However, she does go out sometimes for an hour or two and I’m fine with that. I know she’s listened, and I don’t bark or cry at all. At night I settle really quickly and sleep all night in my own bed in the bedroom. My foster mum thinks a calm, quiet, more rural home with established routines would suit me best as this helps me feel safe and secure. Adults only would be better as I’m very fast and bouncy and would probably accidentally knock over small children. I need a patient home as I will need time to settle into a new home and learn to cope with new people and dogs. I would love to find an experienced home where I could learn, at my own pace to cope better with new experiences. Our SRS behaviourist can also lend a helping hand.More about Freddie: he eats well and loves fruit and veg for snacks. He will carry his bowl around the house to remind me when he’s peckish!Freddie appears to have had little exposure to different environments. He can still be easily spooked by sights and sounds on woodland walks but is slowly gaining confidence and happier now on familiar walks. He loves a good run around and often stops and just takes in his surroundings. He constantly rushes back for check ins and recall is excellent. He is currently walked for about 45 mins in both mornings and evenings and 20mins in the afternoon (training sessions to expose Freddie to people/voices at a distance).He is quite happy to hop in the car when he knows he’s going somewhere nice.When first in foster Freddie was reactive to dogs/people/children when out and about. He would bark and lunge and take a some time to settle and carry on the walk. We have used a gentle muzzle which has helped. His reactions have improved lately with regular exposure and when triggers are at a distance.He will give chase to birds, cats, rabbits and deer when out and about. He has met horses and although spent a few minutes barking at them settled and then ignored them.By his fourth week in foster Freddie had a very positive report. His personality is really coming through now and he’s turning into a wee comic, full of love and affection. He is coping much better on walks and really enjoys getting out now. He is much more settled in the house and likes a wee snooze.Visiting the vet: Freddie has had his routine healthcheck and is fit and well. His vaccinations are up to date. He was very nervous at the vet, such that the vet recommended neutering only when he is settled.Behavioural issues: Some reactivity to people and other dogs when out. He is still learning to cope with new experiences and has been coming on really well in foster.Home needs: Freddie would be best suited to a calm, quiet home with an established routine- possibly more rural based/working from home/ adult only. He can be boisterous and could easily knock over small children. He loves a garden to play in and potter. He will require either an experienced adopter or someone who is willing to work with a trainer/ behaviourist to address Freddie’s nervousness when encountering people/dogs, and continue working on his confidence. He has made excellent progress while he has been in foster, but it still a work in progress. A prospective adopter will need to be patient to

Freya is a lovely Springer Spaniel crossbreed who came to us for rehoming through no fault of her own – her owners didn’t have the time to give her the exercise and attention she needs.She’s a lovely girl, very friendly and affectionate… but also with a lot of energy and zest for life! She approaches everything full on and seems to be a pretty confident dog! She settled into the kennels straight away, and made friends with everybody! She has been around children, and could go to a home with children again, however we would advise that any children in the home are used to bouncy dogs!Freya has lived with another dog, and they got along great… however she can be vocal when on her walks here. We believe that this is more of an excitement vocalisation. She may be able to share her home with a good natured male dog, but this would depend on a dog meeting here at the Ark. She’s not cat friendly, and has opened the cage and chased pet rabbits too.She absolutely loves her walks! She’s very active and has lots of energy to burn! She’s still a baby after all! She particularly enjoys her time off lead in our exercise compounds, playing with the toys! She can be pully on the lead, as she’s not really been walked much in her previous home. She’s had very little in the way of training, so this is something that her new owners would need to consider, and be able to devote time to.

Jerry is a 3 year old Springer SpanielSorry no children or other pets in the home for this boy.Jerry is a resource guarder, so is looking for an active savvy home.He is a clean boy in the home, and can be a loving boy.Jerry is crate trained.He loves being out in his garden searching for his ball and toys.Jerry will need some ongoing training with his lead work and recall.Sadly Jerry is not a fan of visiting the vets so needs to be muzzled when attending appointments.Have you a savvy home to offer this youngster where he will be kept busy?Please note this dog has not been assessed by LCH and remains with owner until a home is secured.

Personality & Temperament: Lexi is very affectionate, a timid girl but not with her brother. She loves the couch, loves her walks and loves chasing a ball and stealing it from her brother. Rio is super sweet big boy. He is always on the go. Wants to see what’s going on outside. Does like to bark at neighbours or dogs if out in garden. Doesn’t bark much in the house. He loves the ball and is usually first to get it, although always gives it up for Lexi.Home Life: Both are toilet trained and can be left alone for short periods. They are not destructive with shoes or soft furnishings. They love to sleep on the couch, they hardly use their own bed. On walks they get very excited; both pull and need training here. Lexi is more biddable and wants to stay close, she will be easier to be off lead. Rio will take a bit of work before being off lead, he loves birds and running and his recall is sporadic. Lexi and Rio absolutely love each other and sleep together. Lexi is more reliant on Rio and looks for him and follows him on walks. They are beautiful dogs together.Getting Along with Others: Rio loves to bark at the neighbour’s dog when in the garden, but out on walks he doesn’t bark at anyone. He will happily say hello to other dogs if he feels like it. Lexi is timid with other dogs and does not want to say hello to any. Rio is the only dog she happy with. Rio would definitely chase Cats. Rio is fine with children however Lexi does not like little children and very timid and scared. Children over 12 would be best.Exercise: They both need training with heel work and being off lead. At home they have been getting trained to wait until told to go for food and they are doing well. Lexi always finished her food first, so she also has been trained to wait till Rio is finished and then she can have a lick of his bowl. No food guarding at all with either of them or humans. Also being trained to wait before coming indoors. They would suit a very active home who has access to long country walks and invest time to train them. They could be left alone for a short period, a home with retired, semi-retired, working from home, or part time would be best. They could not be left alone in home all day for full time workers.Health Issues: Both dogs have had their routine heathchecks and are fit and well.Travel: Lexi is fine in the car, a bit timid and just sits still, but she does relax and close her eyes eventually. Her confidence has grown since she has been in foster. Rio is also fine in the car, he likes to be in the middle watching out the front window. He is strapped in on the back seat, head on the centre console, watching everything.Home Needs: Lexi and Rio will be rehomed together. They are lovely young dogs who have settled very well in foster. They will need an active home with someone around most of the time. No cats, as Rio would probably chase them. Older children, Lexi is anxious around young children. They would be best as the only dogs in the home.
