Arlo

Age2 years
BreedEnglish Springer Spaniel

This is the lovely Arlo and we are looking for a special home for him!Arlo is only 19 months old and he hasn’t had much joy in his life so far. As a young dog he was surrendered to another Charity as the original owners were unable to provide him with the attention, training and exercise he needed, due to them having a small child. They placed him in a foster home with eleven other, older dogs who bullied him. Consequently he never had long enough to relax and find his feet. Understandably this has made him a little anxious around some strange dogs. Obviously he wasn’t thriving in this environment and the Charity eventually asked NWESSR to take him. Since coming into our care he has made friends with an older NWESSR dog and our dog walker takes them out together, which they enjoy. As poor Arlo has never had a proper home of his own he is still quite immature and puppyish, he needs to learn what it’s like to live with a loving family and enjoy all the exciting things the world has to offer an eager young Springer! While in NWESSR’s care our Trainer has been working on building his confidence and also his recall and loose lead walking which are both improving. When rewarded with a treat he takes it gently. He loves to play fetch, will drop his toy and doesn’t snatch it back. He loves to swim when given the chance. In spite of his difficult start in life, Arlo is a friendly boy, full of affection, just wanting to be loved and desperate to form a close bond with his special person or family. At present he is in our kennels, however he is quite stressed and unhappy in this environment when not out and about and really needs his forever home.We are looking for an experienced, cat free, home where the owner/s are able to give this energetic young springer the exercise and adventures he needs, but also a quiet space where he can relax and decompress.Arlo loves a cuddle and needs someone with the time to continue his training and above all give him the love and patience he deserves, in return you will gain a lovely companion who will repay your efforts with all the love, fun and affection you could wish for.If you think you can give Arlo his new forever home, on the application button belowApplication Form

Charlie

Age5 years
BreedEnglish Springer Spaniel

5yrs old Charlie is a lovely boy who really needs a home to call his own, he has learned so much while in our care and is ready to become part of a loving family. When Charlie first came to NWESSR he was quite traumatised by finding himself in kennels, but with patience and understanding he has relaxed and learnt so much. He is accomplished at ‘sit and stay’, gives a paw, high fives and nose touches. His recall is fine and he understands ‘drops for swaps’ especially as he is treat orientated. He adores swimming and absolutely loves sniffing games especially in the woods and is very good at them!Charlie is walked with another young NWESSR dog who he tolerates remarkably well. He is strong on the lead, but is learning loose lead walking and this will improve with repetition. Our dogwalker sums him up as follows; he is an “absolute heart melter”. Charlie is generally a calm, well-mannered dog, he can be a bit nervous in some situations, but with patience and the right treatment he will learn to overcome this.Charlie is looking for a pet free home with a couple who are at home most of the time and can both be involved in his daily care, exercise and games. They would need to continue his training and mental stimulation and, together with lots of love, this clever boy will give so much joy and companionship in return. New owners will also have the pleasure of knowing they have given this beautiful boy his ‘happy ever after’. All he needs is a chance! If you’d like to apply to adopt Charlie on the application form button to find out more about the process.Application Form

Charlie, a 7 years old female Cocker Spaniel X English Springer Spaniel available for adoption from Mutts in Distress in Essex

Mutts in Distress

Charlie

Essex
SexFemale
Age7 years
BreedCocker Spaniel X English Springer Spaniel

This is Charlie. We’ve been taking the time to assess him, so we could be certain on the type of home he requires. Charlie is a Cocker spaniel (possibly crossed with a springer), he is 7 years old. Charlie is looking for an experienced handler, ideally someone who understands the breed/s. Spaniels are working dogs and most need an outlet to keep them happy in life - Charlie is no exception. Charlie is toy/ food motivated and is a very quick learner. He really enjoys activities that get his brain working - he would not be happy with just a walk round the block. Charlie will need structure in the house - no sleeping on the sofa or on human beds. He has had negative experiences in his first home which means he becomes worried when people come close to his face (A child use to hold him by his ears so she could kiss him). We would recommend crating him at night. Here at the kennels, he is truly a lovely dog. We don’t pressure him or overwhelm him with affection/ fusses (don’t get me wrong, he does love a good fuss!). No children. Can live with other dogs. Has lived with a cat - no issue.

Age9 years
BreedEnglish Springer Spaniel

Clippa is a wonderful girl who came to us from a breeder in search of a fresh start. From the moment she arrived, she showed us what a loving and affectionate little girl she is. Whilst in our care at the rescue, Clippa quickly became a favourite with staff and volunteers thanks to her happy nature and love of human attention. She adored going out on walks with volunteers, loved exploring the Welsh countryside and was always happiest when she was close to people getting cuddles and fuss. She also got on brilliantly with her kennel friends and enjoyed the company of other dogs. She has now moved to a foster home where she has continued to blossom and has settled beautifully into home life. On arrival, she immediately made it her mission to explore every single inch of the garden, showing just how adventurous and inquisitive she is! Because of this, she will need a very secure garden with minimum 6ft fencing as she is an active little spaniel who loves to investigate everything around her.Clippa is an incredibly affectionate and people orientated dog who absolutely adores human company. Visitors are instantly greeted by Clippa demanding cuddles, belly rubs and attention, and she will happily snuggle into you whenever given the opportunity. Although she enjoys playing with polite dogs and gets on wonderfully with the resident dogs in foster, people will always be her favourite. She has taken to home life brilliantly and despite having never lived in a home before, she has been clean around the house, with no accidents indoors. She settles beautifully overnight and loves curling up somewhere warm and cosy with her foster family. In fact, she gets so comfortable at bedtime that convincing her to go outside for her final toilet trip can sometimes be a challenge!Clippa absolutely LOVES her walks and thrives on getting out and exploring the world around her. She would love an active home that understands the busy, intelligent and inquisitive nature of spaniels and can provide her with plenty of mental and physical stimulation. She already walks well on lead most of the time, although she can sometimes be strong and excitable when out and about. At the moment, her recall is non-existent in secure fields as she is far too busy exploring to pay attention, so her adopters will need to be committed to continuing her training with this. She could happily be homed as an only dog as long as her adopters were around most of the time and had plenty of time to spend with her, but she could also be homed with another kind and playful resident dog. She could live with gentle dog savvy teenagers but cannot live with cats or small furries.Since arriving in foster, Clippa has shown signs of separation anxiety and struggles being away from her people even for short periods. Her fosterers are already working hard on building her confidence and independence, and her future adopters will need to continue this, gradually building up the time she is left.Clippa arrived in our care with bilateral conjunctivitis which responded very well to treatment and continues to be monitored. She also had one tooth removed at the time of her spay.Clippa is such a happy, loving and affectionate little girl who has embraced her new life with enthusiasm. Whether she is out exploring, making new friends, or snuggled up for cuddles, she throws herself wholeheartedly into everything she does. We think she will make an absolutely wonderful companion for a very lucky family. She has a travel document.Clippa has been given the Gift of Life by Carol Unsworth

Freya, a 11 months old female English Springer Spaniel available for adoption from Ashbourne Animal Welfare in Derbyshire

SexFemale
Age11 months
BreedEnglish Springer Spaniel

Freya is a lovely Springer Spaniel crossbreed who came to us for rehoming through no fault of her own – her owners didn’t have the time to give her the exercise and attention she needs. She’s a lovely girl, very friendly and affectionate… but also with a lot of energy and zest for life! She approaches everything full on and seems to be a pretty confident dog! She settled into the kennels straight away, and made friends with everybody! She has been around children, and could go to a home with children again, however we would advise that any children in the home are used to bouncy dogs!Freya has lived with another dog, and they got along great… however she can be vocal when on her walks here. We believe that this is more of an excitement vocalisation. She may be able to share her home with a good natured male dog, but this would depend on a dog meeting here at the Ark. She’s not cat friendly, and has opened the cage and chased pet rabbits too.She absolutely loves her walks! She’s very active and has lots of energy to burn! She’s still a baby after all! She particularly enjoys her time off lead in our exercise compounds, playing with the toys! She can be pully on the lead, as she’s not really been walked much in her previous home. She’s had very little in the way of training, so this is something that her new owners would need to consider, and be able to devote time to.

Hank, a 5 years old male English Springer Spaniel available for adoption from Springer Rescue Scotland in Scotland

Springer Rescue Scotland

Hank

Scotland
SexMale
Age5 years
BreedEnglish Springer Spaniel

Personality & Temperament: Hank is a handsome 5-year-old Beagle/Springer Spaniel cross with a big personality and an even bigger heart. Affectionate, loving and full of character, he thrives on being part of family life and likes to know exactly what everyone is up to.Despite weighing around 25kg, Hank is convinced he’s a lap dog and will happily try to squeeze onto your knee for cuddles if given the opportunity. He loves affection and is never far away when there’s a sofa, a belly rub or a willing human available. Hank is a sociable boy who enjoys meeting new people. He can be quite vocal when he’s excited, particularly when his favourite people come home, but a quick fuss and a belly rub usually settles him right down. He also likes to keep an eye on the neighbourhood and will happily let you know if there’s someone outside the house. He loves being towel dried after a soggy walk.Exercise & Training: As you’d expect from a Beagle/Springer cross, Hank enjoys an active lifestyle and loves getting out and about. He currently enjoys three walks a day, with his longer walk usually taking place around lunchtime. Once he’s had the chance to stretch his legs, have a good sniff and satisfy his curiosity, he’s more than happy to settle down and relax with his family. Hank walks well on the lead and has made great progress. He is a strong lad, however, and some adopters may find a Gentle Leader or Halti helpful, particularly in busier areas.Hank is very interested in other dogs and is always keen to say hello. Sometimes his enthusiasm gets the better of him and his distinctive hound howl makes an appearance as he approaches. He’s still learning his manners when meeting new dogs and is gradually discovering that not everyone appreciates quite the same level of excitement that he does! Hank already knows some basic commands including sit, paw and down, and enjoys learning when treats are involved. One area Hank is still building confidence in is around things with wheels. Bicycles and scooters can make him a little nervous, so his new family should be prepared to continue helping him build positive experiences around them. We are working on the counter surfing!Home Life: Hank enjoys a good routine and has settled well into home life. During the day you’ll usually find him snoozing in his bed, stretched out on the sofa or keeping an eye on what’s happening around him.He sleeps soundly overnight, is fully house trained and can be left home alone without any issues. He also travels reasonably well in the car. Once the day is done and everyone is relaxing, Hank is at his happiest. After his walks and adventures, he’s more than content to curl up beside his family and enjoy a quiet evening on the sofa.Getting Along With Others: Hank currently lives happily with another dog and enjoys canine company. He shares space and toys well and loves having a playmate around. If there are cuddles available, he may occasionally try to move himself to the front of the queue, but who can blame him! He has shown no issues around food or toys and is simply a dog who enjoys being involved in everything that’s going on. Due to his size, strength and enthusiasm, Hank would be best suited to a home with dog-savvy children who are comfortable around larger dogs. Hank could happily live with another dog and has also lived successfully alongside a dog-savvy cat. However, he is likely to chase unfamiliar cats outdoors, so any resident feline would need to be confident around dogs and introductions would need to be managed appropriately.Health Issues: Hank is in good condition and has had his routine healthcheck. He is due his vaccination boosters in November.Home Needs: Hank would love an active family who will include him in their adventures and continue helping him polish off a few rough edges. He’s not a perfect dog—and that’s part of his charm. What you’ll get in return is a loyal, affectionate, funny companion who loves his people, enjoys a good walk and is never far away when there’s a sofa available. If you’re looking for a lovable rogue with a big personality and an even bigger heart, Hank might just be your boy.

Jim is a lively boy as you would expect at the age of two years. In his short life so far, he has had a few ups and downs, which this lovely boy has had to cope with and NWESSR thinks he needs a break. We would very much like his new home to be his forever home, as we think he deserves it.Jim had the rug pulled out from under him, when his first owner passed away suddenly, and he found himself in a foster, while a new home was found for him. He has been in his present home for eight months. He lives with his owners, a 13-year-old and a younger resident Pointer. He is generally a pleasure to walk, and has good recall with his owners. He loves to be off lead and is usually fine with other dogs, although tends to be a bit nervous if he doesn’t know them. His favourite things are his toys and playing in water, he enjoys being outside and having lots of fun.
