Athena, a 4 years old female Foxhound available for adoption from West Wales Poundies in Wales

Athena

Wales

BreedFoxhound

It’s time to find our lovely Welsh Foxhound Athena a home. For those who don’t know her story here it is… We were made aware of Athena a few months ago by a very kind local farmer. She had frequently seen a hound straying on nearby farmland for over 4 years but had never been able to get close to her let alone catch her. Then they discovered she’d given birth to 9 beautiful little ones in their barn and that’s when they contacted us for help. Eventually after some coaxing she was finally trapped and her and her little family were soon on their way to us. As you can imagine after fending for herself for years and now with the added stress of feeding a family she did look somewhat relieved to finally be safe and for a change had someone looking after her. Well her little ones are now 16 weeks and are slowly flying the nest so it’s time she herself found a family to call her own She has come such a long way since she arrived, thin, scared and exhausted. Now she looks and acts like a different dog, she’s now happy to greet you, loves her time out in the field and adores human interaction. She is still nervous with strangers but that’s to be expected. So Athena is looking for an understanding, quiet home. She won’t have ever lived in a house so that will be a new experience for her. She is excellent with other dogs and would probably benefit from living with a calm resident dog, one she can follow and learn from. She wouldn’t suit young children as she can be nervous but would be fine with teenagers and above. She is a big dog, around 35kg just so people get an idea! She is now walking on a lead but isn’t used to busy, built up areas. Being a hound she’ll never be able to go off lead, although she sticks to her humans here like glue, we do need to be mindful of her breed!! Athena is a quiet, placid girl, she is happy spending time with the people she knows lapping up the attention. Please bear in mind she has been living feral for 4-5 years so she will need time to adjust into home life. But I’m sure given a chance Athena will make a lovely companion for someone
