Greyhound

A graceful sprinter with a surprisingly lazy indoor lifestyle.

Despite being known for their speed, Greyhounds are calm and gentle pets who love lounging around the house. They are affectionate, well-mannered, and suitable for many types of homes, including apartments. Socialization and gentle handling are key.

Abbi, a 4 years old female Greyhound available for adoption from WK Retired Greyhounds in Essex

WK Retired Greyhounds

Abbi

Essex
SexFemale
Age4 years
BreedGreyhound

Abbi is 4yrs old. She is very nervous until she knows you but does come round with patience and kindness. She would prefer to be the only dog at home, but does walk happily with other dogs, which would give her confidence. She will need a patient and understanding home, without young children as they may be too much for her. She is clean in her kennel and will be really loyal once she trusts you. Update: Abbi will need a home without too much activity where she can come out of her shell. She may be able to live with a confident dog-savy cat. She would prefer a more rural setting as she is spooked very easily by unexpected noise.

Ace, a 2 years old male Greyhound available for adoption from Paws and People in Northern Ireland

Ace

Northern Ireland
SexMale
Age2 years
BreedGreyhound

Big bouncy gentle giant, seeking his forever home. This beautiful big boy is Ace and he is an ex racing greyhound. He has only recently retired from racing, so is still adjusting to the new routine and changes. He is good with other medium/large dogs, and could live with another dog pending meet and greet. But he would also be happy as the only dog in the home. We havent tried him near small dogs yet as he is still new to us, but given his size I dont think it would be a good idea to rehome him with small dogs. He is a big boy.He would need someone who can build up his leaving times slowly as living in a home will likely be new to him and he will need some time to adjust. But in general greyhounds are quick learners and soon learn to enjoy the home comforts, so hopefully Ace will be the same. He is likely going to need some house training initally, but in kennels he is a pretty clean boy so I dont think he would be hard to house train at all.As he is so recently retired from racing by only a few weeks, his body and mind is still adjusting to all the changes both in his environment and his body itself, so his we will continue to assess him as he continues to settle in. But so far he seems to walk well on the lead, he can be alert with cats but this is hopefully something that will continue to settle as he gets out of the racing mindset. He is muzzle trained and is used to wearing his greyhound muzzle on walks, which is the law anyway for the breed. He is a super friendly boy with people and could live with dog savy kids, but due to his size kids maybe 12yrs and over might be best, though kids as young as 8 could be considered if they have large dog experience. Ace is a wonderful big boy and we cant wait to get to know him more and hopefully find his forever home where he can relax and enjoy a cosy loving pet life now.Any questions im happy to answer them before or during a meet and greet.PLEASE NOTE IT WILL BE AFTER AUGUST 15TH BEFORE HE IS READY FOR ADOPTION, CURRENTLY AWAITING HIS NEUTER OPERATION AND GETTING HIS VET CARE UP TO DATE. Opening the applications early as people were having issues getting the 'notify me' button to work.

Adam , racing name Crystal Adamite is a two year old Greyhound who is looking for his forever home.Adam is currently in foster with three more hounds and is a gentleman with the other dogs, even when he's been told off he is a big softy. He responds very well to praise and picked up house training quickly. He is happy to be left a few hours when his fosterers are at work in the company of other hounds. We would like him to be homed with at least one other dog as he is happier with canine company.Adam plays like a puppy and chills out like an old soul, he likes a ball outside and a soft toy inside. He is very gentle with people and other dogs and is just a delightful boy to have around.Adam is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and flead and wormed. He can be homed both locally and nationally dependent on a successful homecheck.

Ajay, a 3 years old male Greyhound available for adoption from Leicester Animal Rescue in Leicestershire

Ajay

Leicestershire
SexMale

BreedGreyhound

Adorable Ajay is the sweetest boy. He’s an ex racing greyhound which means he has not been in a home, therefore, may not be house trained but don’t let that put you off. Ajay is a very snuggly, affectionate boy. He walks like a dream on the lead. He loves a good blast around a field (a secure one!). He can be homed with children over the age of 10 years old and seems fine with other dogs but can’t be homed with small furries. Ajay loves a soft toy to play with and snuggling up in a cozy bed. Unfortunately, black greyhounds get overlooked for some reason! But whoever is lucky enough to give this sweet boy a home, will have a loyal and loving friend for life!

Handsome 3.5 year old AL arrived with us on the 9th May 2026.AL loves to see the volunteer walkers and walks well on the lead. He is interested to see there are other breeds of dog on his walks but doesn't react negatively towards them. He has shown he is a confident, friendly and affectionate boy who also enjoys spending time in the enrichment (home from home) room playing with toys.AL doesn't like to miss out and loves to be involved in everything that's going on! He has spent days out with our volunteers and another hound and has always behaved well.AL could live in a home with another female hound or would be equally happy as an only dog. We're looking for a home where AL would have company for a large part of the day and we would prefer any children in the household to be 13 plus years of age.Details of our homing requirements can be found on this link: https://makants.uk/adopt-foster/

Meet our lovely boy Al Pacino, a greyhound lurcher type around 6 years old. Al Pacino has sadly come from a very traumatic background and we suspect he may have been used in illegal dog sports. He bears several scars from his past, but he is now safe and ready for a new chapter in life.He is a skinny lad with some old injuries which can cause him to limp when walking, but this does not seem to bother him. Despite everything he has been through, he remains incredibly sweet natured and is always excited to get out and about.Al Pacino has a missing part of his nose, which he takes completely in his stride. He continues to show us what a resilient and loving boy he is every day.Al sniffing the flowersAl showing off his smileAl waiting for a treatAl posing for his photoHe enjoys his walks and is very engaged with the world around him, including people watching and squirrel watching. He walks well on the lead and enjoys gentle strolls, enrichment and mental stimulation. He would be best suited to a peaceful home where he can retire in comfort, while still enjoying lots of short walks and brain games to keep him happy and engaged.Al Pacino could potentially live with other neutered, calm natured dogs following successful introductions. We feel he may also be suitable to live with older children aged 14 plus depending on meets at the centre.Al would benefit from joint supplements to help support his mobility as he builds up his stamina. He is also awaiting x rays just to try to have a better understanding of his pervious injuries.Despite everything in his past, there is still no stopping this boy. He is ready to move forward and enjoy the good life he truly deserves.Cardiff Dogs HomeWestpoint Industrial EstatePenarth RoadCardiffCF11 8JQWe work in partnership with:Support us by making a donation or by donating food and other items. All donations are very gratefully received.© Cardiff Dogs Home 2024 - Website designed by Cardiff Council Web Team
