Aria

Cambridgeshire
SexFemale

BreedLurcher

Aria is a striking, slight-built girl with long legs and beautiful Saluki traits. Her big brown eyes and affectionate nature make a lasting impression on everyone she meets. She’s friendly and enthusiastic, often greeting people and other dogs with excitement and charm. In many ways, Aria is still a puppy. She’s lively, playful and loves her food, so much so that she may help herself if anything tempting is left within reach on kitchen counters. She’s been doing really well with house training in foster and is getting into a good routine, especially heading outside after meals.Out on walks, Aria is alert and engaged with her surroundings, and her prey drive is quite evident. Because of this, she’ll need an understanding home that can manage this safely and continue her training. While she comes across as confident, Aria does like to know where her people are and doesn’t enjoy being left out. She can show some attachment tendencies, so she would benefit from a home where someone is around for much of the time, at least initially, and is willing to help her build confidence being left gradually. With patience, consistency and plenty of love, Aria has all the makings of a wonderful, vibrant companion. She’s a sweet-natured girl with a lot of potential, just waiting for the right home to help her thrive.

Arnie, a 2 years old female German Shepherd available for adoption from GSD Welfare Fund in Cambridgeshire

Arnie

Cambridgeshire
SexFemale
Age2 years
BreedGerman Shepherd

Arnie came to us at 20 months old and has only been with us a short time. He was relinquished to rescue after being described as reactive to “everything” — dogs, people, children, barking and lunging at them all. He had been crated for long periods and only walked in the early hours of the morning, so he arrived with very limited experiences and almost no socialisation. When he first meets someone new, he will bark so needs a little time to work out who you are. Once he knows you, he is the sweetest, most affectionate lad. He travels brilliantly in the car, settles on the back seat, and doesn’t react to passing people or dogs. He loves affection and interaction with people he knows. We’ve been taking him to quiet places for his walks and gradually introducing more sights and sounds at a distance he can cope with. He loves getting out and exploring, and he’s showing us every week that he wants to learn and feel safe.Arnie is ready to be adopted, but he isn’t a dog for busy streets, narrow streets or crowded parks just yet. If he’s pushed too close to things he finds worrying, he will bark, which we want to avoid. He’s a work in progress — not difficult, not dangerous, just inexperienced and trying his best.Arnie needs to be the only dog in the house and no cats or small animals as we suspect he would chase. He needs adopters who are happy to continue slow, steady socialisation: taking him in the car to quiet parks, letting him watch the world from a safe distance, and building his confidence at his pace. In the kennel he settles quietly, shows no destruction, and thrives on predictable routines. With patient, consistent handling and a calm home, Arnie has every chance of becoming a fantastic companion. He just needs people who are willing to continue the good work that’s already started.Meanwhile we will continue working with him on socialisation, till we find the perfect match.

Bailey came into our rescue anxious and very unsure of his surroundings, but with time, patience and understanding we’ve worked to help him gain trust and confidence. He’s made a significant improvement whilst being with us and we now feel that he’s ready to take the next step and find his forever home.He is a highly intelligent boy who needs to be guided in the right direction. He has Collie like traits and will require an experienced home with no children as he can be reactive on walks and tends to guard toys.He is food motivated and will take treats gently, so high quality treats can be used as a positive reinforcement during his ongoing training–we think he could possibly be excellent in agility.

Bear, a 7 years old female German Shepherd available for adoption from GSD Welfare Fund in Cambridgeshire

Bear

BreedGerman Shepherd

Hello… I’m Bear. Some people call me Mr Eyebrows or Mr Oversized Fluffy Cloud. I can’t argue with that — my eyebrows are very expressive and my fur is unbelievably soft. I actually enjoy going to the groomers because they take their time with me and let me settle.I’m somewhere around seven years old, give or take. I’m a steady lad who likes a calm home and people who move at my pace. I’d love someone who’s around a good amount of the time, especially while I’m settling in. Once we’ve built things up slowly, I can manage short periods on my own.I do a little whinge in the car when we’re heading out — that’s just excitement. On the way home, I’m quiet as anything.Walks are one of my favourite parts of the day. I’m a proper sniffer. Every scent tells a story, and I like to take my time reading them. I’m hoping for someone who won’t rush me or try to “get the walk done”. Slow, thoughtful walks suit me best.About other dogs… I’d prefer to be the only dog in the home. When I’ve got enough distance — like the other side of the road — I can walk past calmly. If another dog gets too close, I can get a bit over‑aroused and ramped up all excited, and that can make things tricky. A bit of space, or crossing the road, helps me stay settled so I can have a look and then carry on.One of my favourite things is sitting on a bench next to you, watching the world go by before we wander off for more sniffing.I don’t think I’ve ever lived with children. I can’t remember, and because children can be loud and fast‑moving, I’d prefer a home with grown‑ups only.No cats for me, thank you. Birds and ducks I can ignore. If you’re looking for a gentle, thoughtful companion who loves slow sniffy walks, and sitting quietly beside you, I might be your lad.Location: Stamford, Lincs

Beau

Cambridgeshire

BreedGerman Shepherd

Beau is one of our permanent residents; this is due to her suffering with a disease called exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI).Her case is extreme so needs medication with every single bit of food she has; even if it's a small treat. We did home her once but sadly her adopters didn’t stick to the guidelines that we provided and poor Beau lost so much weight we had to bring her back.Whilst we will provide life long sanctuary for Beau to ensure she stays happy and healthy, we will consider her for fostering to the right family who are experienced with the disease. We will continue to pay for her medication if you provide the love, the home and the usual vet checks.

Cindy has been with us a few months now and is fantastic with a small group of people she trusts. It does take her some time to build trust, which means she doesn’t show her true self when she meets new people. But when she does show herself you see that she’s a happy girl who loves nothing more than showing off running around and destroying toys. She is very loyal and will make a fantastic companion if you give her the time she needs to build a bond and trust.

German Shepherd Dog Welfare Fund was established in 1975 as the UK’s first breed-specific German Shepherd rescue and has since helped rehome nearly 10,000 dogs. The volunteer-led charity rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes vulnerable German Shepherds, including those with behavioural challenges or ongoing medical conditions—often committing to fund lifelong medication where needed. Operating without government funding and relying entirely on donations, the organisation carefully matches each dog to the right home through multiple visits rather than rushed placements. While it does not own its own kennels, it partners with high-standard facilities across Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire and Suffolk to ensure every dog receives excellent care.
