Albie, a 6 years old male Bulldog available for adoption from Pennine Pen Animal Rescue in Greater Manchester

BreedBulldog

Albie arrived into our care after being found tied to a bench in a busy town centre. He was taken in by the dog wardens and brought to us from the pound. When Albie first arrived, he was understandably terrified of everyone and everything around him. He could not understand what was happening and was clearly overwhelmed by his situation. Thankfully, it only took a few hours for him to begin trusting one of his carers, and that bond helped him gain confidence in both his surroundings and the rest of the team.Albie arrived in a heart-breaking condition. He was extremely underweight, had bald patches on his legs, and his nails were severely overgrown, making it painful for him to walk. It was clear he had suffered neglect and had not received the care he deserved.Fast forward just a short time, and the progress he has made is incredible. Despite everything he has been through, Albie remains a sweet, affectionate, and happy boy. Once he trusts you, he forms a very strong bond and is an absolute pleasure to be around. He adores attention, cuddles, and fuss, and watching him learn to feel safe again has truly melted our hearts.Health-wise, Albie is already thriving. With regular meals he has started gaining weight, his nails were trimmed on arrival, bringing him instant relief, and he has enjoyed a well-deserved pampering session and bath. He now smells wonderful, and his coat is looking brighter and healthier every day.Albie is confident and affectionate with the people he knows, but he finds new people quite intimidating. When meeting strangers, he will often retreat and hide until he feels safe enough to come out on his own terms. He takes comfort from familiar people and prefers to observe from a distance before deciding whether he wants to say hello. Importantly, he is not reactive in any way.In his future home, we feel a crate or designated safe space would benefit him greatly, giving him somewhere secure to retreat to whenever he feels overwhelmed.Once he knows and trusts you, Albie is happy to jump in and out of a vehicle independently. He absolutely loves his walks and is very confident when out and about. He enjoys exploring the world around him and looks to his handler for guidance. He has shown himself to be dog-social and has been non-reactive around other dogs.In fact, Albie can sometimes feel more confident meeting new people when another friendly dog is present, so homes with an existing dog may be considered following successful introductions.Albie has come such a long way in a short space of time and now deserves a loving, patient family who will continue to help him build confidence and enjoy the life he should always have had.APPOINTMENT ONLY from 1pm – 3pm Monday to SundayRescue Centre Address: Honeywell Lane, Oldham, OL8 2JPParking: Free parking facing the RescuePennine Pen Animal Rescue CIO has been in operation since 2001, serving the needs of the local community of Oldham. BreedAmerican Bulldog x Cane Corso

Baloo is a 2 year old American Bulldog cross Cane Corso who is super friendly with everyone he meets, but he has little manners with regards to jumping up and boundaries so more training will be needed with this. Baloo has lived with another dog previously, but is hasn’t really been socialised with other dogs out of the home. He’s come across friendly and over excited with what we’ve seen so far so could live with other dogs pending successful introductions. We will need an adult only home for Baloo or with older teenagers, just with how bouncy and boisterous he is. He can’t live with cats or small furries.

My name is Bandit and I am 7 year old Boxer x Bullmastiff. I found myself on death row in a pound due to being an unclaimed stray.. most likely dumped by my previous owner.I do have elbow dysplasia which is controlled well with medication.I am a big strong boy who thinks he can sit on your lap like a chihuahua! I love a bum scratch and am always perfect patient at the vets.I love to be loved and have lots of love to give my new family!!I have no experience with children and am looking for an adult only home without visiting children.I cannot live with cats or small furries!I get on well with some dogs but not all, and so will need a home as the only dog.I walk well on the lead during my walks but am very strong initially or when excited so will need a fit and strong person to walk me. I can't do marathons but a couple of ½ hour walks a day would suit me well.I am looking for a quiet home with calm adults who enjoy a brindle snuggle buddy!

Barbara is a lovely girl looking for a home to call her own! Barbara is best suited to a home with no other pets. Although she has lived with other dogs before, she tends to get quite overwhelmed if they are in her face. She walks very well on the lead, but does react to certain dogs. She is a very affectionate girl, and would suit someone who knows the breed and the health issues that come associated with that. Barbara loves her people - she will need a home with owners who are there most of the time as she does show signs of separation anxiety. Barbara can be a bit jumpy when she realises it is time for walks! She quickly calms down, and enjoys a good fuss. She walks on lose lead most of the time, as she is a very good girl. Could you offer Barbara a good home?Apply to adopt a pet like Barbara...Barbara is a lovely girl looking for a home to call her own! Barbara is best suited to a home with no other pets. Introducing Barbara, who recently had a great time at our annual dog show, she placed 4th in “a face only a mother could love”… but is now waiting for that mum, and or, dad to show her rosette off too. Barbara is a 4 year old Chinese Bulldog with a huge personality just waiting to show it off to a forever family. While she can be a little nervous when first meeting new people, anyone willing to give her the time and patience she needs will soon see what a truly special girl she is. Once Barbara forms a bond, her wonderful character shines through, she’s funny, sweet, affectionate, and endlessly entertaining. As we don’t know anything about Barbara’s life before coming into our care, we’re unsure whether she has lived in a home environment before. However, she absolutely loves spending time with us in the office, where she happily settles herself on a cosy bed or curls up on the sofa. She may need a little refresher with house training, so a home with a secure garden would be ideal. This would give her a safe space to continue building her confidence and help her gradually adjust to her new routine before venturing further afield. Barbara has had some worries around handling in the past, but thanks to training, understanding, and medication to help manage her arthritis, she has come on leaps and bounds. These days she really enjoys a fuss and is happy to be stroked all over by the people she trusts. Her medication will need to be long term, if interested in Barbara we will discuss her medical in more detail with you. She enjoys walking alongside other dogs and is happy to socialise out and about, but at the moment Barbara would prefer to be the only dog in her new home so she can enjoy all the attention for herself. Barbara is also a fantastic traveller and loves car journeys, especially when she can look out of the window and watch the world pass by on the way to her next adventure. Barbara is looking for a calm, adult-only home with patient adopters who will give her the time she needs to settle in. Her adopters may also need to visit the rescue several times before taking her home. In return, you’ll gain a loyal companion with a loving nature, and a personality that’s impossible not to fall in love with!!

Please read my profile below to find out more.Meet Barnaby and Kenny! This adorable duo are looking for their new home together. Barnaby loves to play and enjoys a good game of tug whilst Kenny prefers human affection. Both dogs love a calm home environment and have a lot of love to offer.Since being together from puppies, these boys have a strong bond and can often be found resting near each other. They would benefit from being the only dogs in the home but could have social doggy friends to spend time or go on walks with. They would like a home without cats due to their desires to chase. They are looking for a quieter home with plenty of space for them to play, explore and rest. Barnaby can be sensitive to loud noises and unpredictable sounds. He will need a calm steady home environment. They would like a home with older teenage children or an adult only home for the time being.Due to his size Barnaby will need to be walked by someone physically capable of managing him. Flat faced (brachycephalic) dogs suffer from additional health problems, which may impact their quality of life. We always recommend anyone thinking about adopting or buying a flat faced (brachycephalic) dog to thoroughly research the breed beforehand. Our expert team will be able to give you tips on exercise and weight management and advice on any support Barnaby may need.

DOGS: NOCATS: NOCHILDREN: 15+Beautiful and super fussy, loving Belinda came into rescue via the dog warden and council pound in Carlisle after being spotted as a stray for at least 7 days. She arrived with no name and 13kilos in weight after a week of feeding up in the pound! She had a c-section scar and stitches still present (later removed and found to be not done by a vet due to the type of suture material used). She has come on leaps and bounds after expert care in her foster home and is thoroughly unrecognisable now! She has had mammary tumours removed since being in care and has experienced some anxiety issues which can be controlled with Reconcile as and when needed. Despite the appalling treatment by previous "owners", she is the most loving and friendly girl to people. Belinda needs to be the only dog and can be very reactive to them inside and outside of the home. She needs a cat free home too and can live with older teens 15+ and to be rehomed in a similar place to where she is that is quiet, possibly semi rural and not in a dog heavy area. She is mostly house-trained with occasional accidents (again this has been patiently worked on in foster care and she may revert temporarily to her old ways, when she moves). Belinda can be left for up to 5 hours but prefers to be loose in the home and needs a breed experienced home. A super girl with just the worst start in life imaginable - please do not overlook this beautiful soul xx

Benny is new to Homeless Hounds and is under assessment. You can still apply for Benny but be aware at this stage we don’t know what type of home he will require.Benny is a young Frenchie who came in to us from the pound as an unclaimed stray.Benny is a lovely boy and enjoys nothing better than to sit with his human and have lots of cuddles. He has some very endearing ways and is very sweet natured and very laid back if he has company. He does suffer from some separation anxiety and needs a patient owner who is around for most of the day who will help him overcome his anxiety about being left on his own.Benny likes sleeping with and resting his head his human before going to sleep. At present he finds it difficult to settle and sleep on his own. Benny loves his walks and gets very excited. However, he does know basic commands and will stop and wait at the curb side if asked to do so. He is vocal when he sees other dogs but his response to seeing other dogs seems to stem from excitement as opposed to aggression but we will be further testing this. For the time being we would be rehoming Benny as an only dog.Benny loves ball games and is happy to have a good play in the garden – although he isn’t great at retrieving and returning the ball as yet. Benny may need a little help with his toilet training until he settles in.

He is a 3 year old Old Tyme Bulldog who came into our care via a national RSPCA inspector. In his previous home, he was kept in a crate for long periods of time so he hasn't experienced much of the outside world. He's a really sweet, lovely boy deep down, he just needs a home with time, patience, and bulldog experience to really help him flourish. He can be nervous so he needs gentle introductions to new people and situations, and help learning that the world isn't a scary place.
