Safe Rescue For Dogs

Denzel is a small to medium-sized crossbreed, around 2 to 3 years old, with the cutest little legs and a long body that suggests there might be a bit of Corgi and Spaniel somewhere in his family tree. Failed cat testing. Need resident dog. Respectful children 12 plus Whatever his mix, one thing is certain, he’s absolutely adorable. Denzel’s story didn’t begin with the love and security every dog deserves. He was rescued from a pack of dogs surviving on the streets of Romania, in an area where cruelty towards dogs was sadly commonplace. Many of the dogs rescued alongside him had suffered horrific injuries, including broken limbs. Miraculously, Denzel escaped without any major physical injuries, but the emotional scars of his past are harder to see. Because of this, Denzel is understandably cautious around new people. He isn’t the sort of dog who will throw himself into the arms of strangers, and that’s okay. He simply needs someone willing to let him go at his own pace. The beautiful thing about Denzel is that once you’ve earned his trust, his cheeky, affectionate personality begins to shine through. He’s sweet, quietly funny, and has so much love tucked away, just waiting for the right person to discover it. Denzel is currently living happily in a multi-dog foster home and absolutely thrives with canine company. Watching him with the other dogs is lovely! He’s relaxed, confident, and enjoys playing when he thinks the humans aren’t looking! Because of how much he relies on other dogs for reassurance, he will need at least one friendly, confident resident dog in his forever home. Cats, however… let’s just say the relationship between Denzel and the Safe Rescue cat is less of a friendship and more of a mutual agreement to disagree! For that reason, he is looking for a cat-free home. Denzel could happily live with sensible, respectful children aged 12 years and over who understand that he will need time, patience and space to settle. Denzel isn’t looking for perfection. He isn’t looking for someone who expects an instant best friend. He’s looking for someone who understands that love built on trust is worth waiting for. Un-neutered puppies on spay/neuter contracts: £530 (You will receive a £100 rebate once you send us proof of neutering). Senior dogs (10+ years): £150–£250 (depending on age and individual needs).When you adopt a Safe Rescue dog, you MUST use a slip lead. This will keep your dog safe: your new dog will be nervous and will not trust you, and you will not know which situations might upset your dog. If your dog panics, then a slip lead is the only way to prevent your dog from escaping (many dogs can escape from a collar and/or harness). It will take AT LEAST 3-6 months for your dog to settle-in and for you to know your dog fully (longer for nervous dogs). The slip lead must ALWAYS be used during this settling-in period. Even after your dog is settled, it is safest to use the slip lead in situations where your dog may become scared (e.g. visiting new places, around unfamiliar people, at the vet), and it situations where unexpected triggers might happen (e.g. around bonfire night). Nervous dogs may always need to wear a slip-lead as a back-up safety measure. The slip lead is a safety device and must NEVER be used as a training tool. Using the lead to apply pressure to the dog’s neck is damaging. If your dog pulls on the lead, then we can advise you on training methods that avoid harm. Once your dog is settled, you may want to consider using a harness (together with the slip lead) if your dog is comfortable with being handled when it is fitted. Most harnesses are not escape-proof, but harnesses with a strap behind the ribcage (e.g. Ruffwear Webmaster or Perfect Fit Harnesses) are safer. Retractable / extendable leads must never be used on our dogs. Adopted dogs must be collected from the rescue and transported straight home in a secure metal crate. Fences and gates must be 5foot minimum in height and secure.

With his adorable little legs, one wonderfully floppy ear and his hilarious bouncing style, Hamish is guaranteed to make you smile. He's full of personality, overflowing with enthusiasm and has a zest for life that's completely infectious. Although he's listed as being around two years old, we honestly think Hamish could be younger. Everything about him screams puppy! From his playful antics to his boundless energy and cheeky little personality, he's still very much a youngster learning about the world. What's Hamish Like? Hamish is incredibly affectionate and will happily come over for a fuss whenever the opportunity arises. He's the sort of dog who wants to be involved in everything you're doing and is always ready for the next adventure. Like many young dogs, Hamish can be a little mouthy and grabby when he's excited. This is playful puppy behaviour rather than anything nasty or aggressive, but it's something his new family will need to continue working on with kind, consistent training. With the right guidance, we expect him to mature into a wonderful companion. Hamish's Ideal Home Hamish could fit into lots of different homes. Because he can be quite bouncy, mouthy and enthusiastic, we don't feel he'd be suited to living with younger children. However, he could happily live with older, dog-savvy children who understand that he's still learning his manners. He gets on brilliantly with other dogs and could happily share his home with a friendly canine companion, although he'd also enjoy being the centre of attention. A secure garden would be a lovely bonus where he can burn off some energy and enjoy playing, but it's not essential as long as his family can provide plenty of exercise, enrichment and adventures. His new family should be ready to continue his basic training, helping him channel all of that youthful enthusiasm into becoming the fantastic adult dog we know he's going to be. Lemmy is looking for a quieter location with a secure garden to enjoy. His leaving time could hopefully be gradually built up to 3-4 hours once he has settled into his new environment.Is Lemmy right for you?Lemmy is a little ball of energy! For those that think he will be in his twilight years, don’t be fooled, Lemmy will be more than happy to keep up with you! Lemmy has spent a long time in kennels and so is looking for a patient family who would be willing to help him slowly adjust to home life along with our support. If you were to ask Lemmy what his favourite thing in life is, the answer would always be food and tennis balls; unfortunately he missed his calling as the next Wimbledon ball-boy, and so a family keen on playing a game of fetch and utilising that smart brain of his is a must! Lemmy can show concerns around handling, so a family willing to take a hands off approach initially whilst he builds a relationship with you is essential; in turn, you will get the most perfect, loving companion. He takes time to build trust and form bonds, but with patience, consistency and a predictable routine, he can thrive. Maguire would suit owners who have experience with nervous dogs and who are happy to give him the space he needs while allowing his confidence to grow naturally.Once comfortable, Maguire enjoys exploring his surroundings and loves using his nose, making quiet walks in peaceful locations particularly rewarding for him. He already knows some basic cues and is highly motivated by food, which can be a great tool for continuing his training. He can be wary of unfamiliar situations and handling, so his adopters should be prepared to work at his pace and respect his boundaries.Maguire is looking for an adult-only home where he will be the only pet. Due to his reactivity around other dogs, he will need access to quiet walking routes where plenty of space can be maintained, or owners who are willing to travel to suitable locations. In his new home, Maguire will be a rewarding companion to share life's quieter adventures with, whether that's sniff-filled strolls, learning new things together, or simply enjoying each other's company with his own garden to potter around in.
