Are you right for Edie?Edie is a beautiful 7-year-old Shar Pei who has been waiting to find her forever home longer than any other dog in our centre. She’s spent most of her life with us hoping that someone will see the amazing dog we see. She is very shy initially but with a little time and plenty of treats she will soon be nudging you for a bit of fuss! She’s also worried by other dogs, but she’s proven that in a home where she won’t see them up close, she is a dream. She's been for sleepovers to her handlers home and she was the perfect house guest! Very relaxed, fully housetrained, and happy to just chill out. We know that in a peaceful adult only home where she’ll be the only pet she will thrive. Is Edie right for you?Edie is the most loving and gentle natured dog and has come such a long way since first arriving in our care. Her handlers all adore her due to her zest for life. She's super affectionate and loves plenty of snuggles! She enjoys getting out for walkies or playing with her toys and she's absolutely smashed her training. Off-lead playtime is another favourite hobby for her so she will need to have a secure garden to play in. So if you’re looking for a very loving companion, you have a quiet and predictable routine and have time to gradually settle her in, add our Edie to your favourites now!

Ginger, a 4 years old female Shar Pei available for adoption from Manchester and Cheshire Dogs Home in Greater Manchester

BreedShar Pei

Independent and Inquisitive – meet Ginger! This lovely girl is looking for a home that appreciates her unique personality and independent nature. True to her breed, she’s not one to constantly seek attention, but she enjoys being around people in her own calm and watchful way. She has a curious, nosey side and much prefers keeping an eye on what’s going on around her rather than playing with toys. She does know her basic commands but would benefit from ongoing training and socialisation. As a typical Shar Pei she would be best suited to someone with experience of the breed, who understands their independent temperament and can give her the space and respect she needs to thrive. She’s a wonderful, characterful girl who will suit a home that values a quieter, more self-contained companion, but one who still enjoys being part of the household in her own special way. Ginger was very timid and scared when she first came into the home but it didn’t take her long to come around, a few tasty treats definitely helped. Ginger would benefit from a private secure garden.Ginger has interacted with other dogs whilst in our care and whilst she is interested in them she can be very unsure and does like her own space so for this reason we would like her to be the only dog in the home.As Ginger came into the home as a stray we have no previous history on her and as she can still be a little nervous around new people we would prefer any children to be 14+ years. If you have a holiday booked in the next 3 months please wait until you return to apply for a dog.

Lola

BreedShar Pei

Are you right for Lola?Loveable lady Lola is looking for understanding adopters, who could take the time to get to know her gradually, and who have the interest to teach their furry friend new skills. A sensitive pooch at times, Lola is seeking a family, who lead a quieter, yet active lifestyle. Her ideal home setup would be somewhere calm and peaceful, where she can settle in at her own pace and enjoy a zoom about in the garden. Lola has been building up her confidence around walking where other dogs are nearby. However, she can be overwhelmed when other dogs come too close to her and would best be suited to quieter walking areas, away from the hustle and bustle of busy town centres or dog parks. Lola must be the only pet in her new abode and will need to wear her muzzle when out in public. She is fully muzzle-trained and has learnt to wear this using positive reinforcement training. She could live with dog-savvy children aged 14+. Lola would benefit from a secure and private garden that she can enjoy with her family. Lola has some medical considerations that will be discussed with our vet team upon a booking. Is Lola right for you?A true foody, Lola enjoys anything that keeps her belly satisfied— whether that’s dinner time, food-based enrichment activities, long-lasting chews, or being rewarded with tasty treats during training. However, as food is so important to Lola, she prefers to enjoy her favourite thing in peace, so an undisturbed area of the house to feed her would be recommended. While she’s an independent-natured girl, once you’ve earned her trust, Lola will make for a loyal and loving companion, who’ll become increasingly affectionate and enjoy gentle fusses or bum scratches. Her other most-loved pastimes include investigating the woods on a long-line, utilising her clever brain with fun training, and showing off her tricks! She is a dog that will never fail to make you smile- she has so much character! If you are looking for a sweet independent- but loving girl, Lola is the right girl for you!

Louie

Age9 years
BreedShar Pei x Staffordshire Bull Terrier

If you think you can offer Louie the lifestyle he is looking for and commit to his ongoing training, please fill in the form below.Upon arrival at the shelter Louie was very anxious and untrusting of new people. It has taken several months of care and rehabilitation to turn him into the wonderful boy he has now become (he is a firm favourite amongst the kennel staff).Louie is a very intelligent, determined boy who knows what he wants and when he wants it! He loves to play and a roll in the long grass, he loves water and enjoys the paddling pool. He has a massive toy box in his kennel and spends his day choosing different toys.He is also an incredibly sensitive boy. Louie doesn’t like loud noises, wind or heavy rain. He will flinch at sudden movements and new situations can really worry him. He accepts handling really well from the people he trusts but takes a while to warm to new people. Out and about Louie will ignore everything else that is going on (dogs and people) but does not like it if anyone invades his personal space.Louie is housetrained and knows his name, sit, paw, down, come, speak and leave on command. He mostly walks well on the lead unless he knows he is going somewhere exciting. Louie is muzzle trained for seeing the vet and for formal handling (his paws are very sensitive).Scroll through the gallery of images above or click to openΔdocument.getElementById( "ak_js_1" ).setAttribute( "value", ( new Date() ).getTime() );You must have an appointment booked after applying to adopt in order to meet the animals. You are welcome to drop off donations at any time or come into our reception office with any enquiries. We are constantly striving to improve all aspects of our work. Celandine Wood

Max

Wales
SexMale
Age6 years
BreedShar Pei x Golden Retriever

Max is a 6 year old Shar Pei x Retriever searching for his new family through no fault of his own. He’s a truly lovely boy with a big heart. Happy, affectionate and full of personality. Max enjoys nothing more than a good walk, a run in the fresh air and then coming home to relax by your side. He’s also content pottering around the house! Max has grown up around older children, but he would really thrive in a calm, adult-only home where he can settle. While he can sometimes get along with other dogs, we feel he’d be happiest as the only pet, soaking up all the love and attention for himself. He can be a little unsure when meeting new people, so he just needs someone patient who will give him the time and gentle introductions he needs to build trust. Once he does, you’ll see what a loyal and special companion he truly is. Max would be perfect for someone who enjoys their walks and wants a best friend who can match their energy, but also curl up and relax at the end of the day. He’s waiting for someone to see just how wonderful he is and give him the loving home he deserves

Milo, a 8 years old male Shar Pei available for adoption from Dogs Trust in Merseyside

Dogs Trust

Milo

Merseyside
SexMale
Age8 years
BreedShar Pei

Are you right for Milo?Milo can live with teenagers but needs to be the only pet at home. He is house trained and is fine by himself for a couple of hours, though he has been used to having his owner around all the time. He is likely to need a few visits to him at the centre as he takes a little while to warm to new people. Is Milo right for you?Water loving Milo is looking for a new home through no fault of his own. He's a ploddy boy who likes gentle potters on his lead and is happy to explore the centre grounds. Milo can be a little nervous when meeting new people but he's much more relaxed when away from the centre's hustle and bustle. He has already chosen his favourite handler and seems to form nice bonds when he's comfortable. He's very clear about when he does and doesn't want to be made a fuss of, and will lean into you hard when he does! We would advise his new family to let him settle in well before having visitors, so that he doesn't get worried or overwhelmed. He has previously been very excited to receive visitors in his home, he just needs that time to get comfortable. Milo doesn't really seem bothered about having canine friends - he will have an investigative sniff and then usually chooses not to take it any further, wandering off and doing his own thing. Milo's favourite thing is his monkey teddy! He can be very playful and likes to chase after balls and squeaky toys.
