Hi.. I'm Barney (aka your future shadow!) I'm a 10 year-old gent looking for a nice calm home where I can finally pur my paws up and relax.Let's get the important bits out of they .. I'd prefer to be your one and only (no dogs please), and a home without young children would suit me best - older, sensible kids (10+) could be okay. Now, onto the good stuffI love my walks - I stroll like a pro on the lead ( vary handsome, if i do say so myself). Because of a past leg injury, I'm currently on shorter walks, but with time and care, I might be able to build up the walks a little. Slow and stready wins the race, right? I do like my personal space when I'm out and about - I'm not a fan of dogs getting too close to me on walks. If another dog barks at me I might have a little bark back. With the right handling and a bit of space I'm a good boy.Food? Oh yes... I am VERY motivated by snacks. Treats = instant best friends.I'm not house trained yet, but don't worry - my humans will give you all the tips you need to help me learn. I'm a clever boy, especially when snacks are involved!I would really love a home where somone is around most of the time, as I'm not a fan of being left alone. I just like company.. and honestly, who wouldn't want me as their little shadow? So, if you're looking for a loyal companion who loves a gentle walk, a comfy bed and full snack jar.. I might just be your guy.Love,Barney

Are you right for Bella?Bella can live with children of high school age but not other dogs. She has lived with cats before but she does chase them outside of the home. She has recently had surgery to improve her breathing and has made a full recovery. Bella is house trained but becomes stressed if left alone for any length of time.Is Bella right for you?Bella came in to our care incredibly overweight and with some obvious difficulties with her breathing. She has been in a foster home where she has been able to lose weight steadily until she was ready for BOAS surgery and is now a whole new dog! Bella is very friendly with people and loves having visitors in her foster home, greeting them excitedly at the door and happily jumping on welcoming laps. She has been brilliant in her foster home but does sometimes ask to be let out during the night, or is disturbed at times by lights outside and finding a nighttime routine that suits her is a work in progress! Something we know that Bella really struggles with is the TV, more so when there are animal on it. She will lunge and bark at the TV. Her foster family are receiving advice from our Behaviour team on this, as will her adopters. Bella finds exercise a lot easier now she's in better shape, and can be surprisingly strong on her lead! She is very reactive when she spots another dog and she's being taught to focus on her handler instead.

Calista is a sweet girl she came into our care as a stray, she has been here for a couple of months building up her health and strength. She is a golden oldie so is after a home where she can go for little walks throughout the day as she enjoys being outside and sniffing in the grass but also is after a nice comfy sofa to call her own. She is a cheeky girl who likes to shout when its food time or she wants to go outside. She does like to try and escape out of the kennel if she has the chance. Calista does tend to prefer going to the toilet outside rather than in her kennel but does have the odd accident through the night.Calista can go with children who are over 8 years old – subject to a successful meet. Calista has interacted well with dogs whilst in our care, so could be rehomed with a calm older dog if they got on during the meet and greets.*Applicants that are successful will be provided with further information on each dog to the best of the charity’s knowledge

Chilli is an older boy who is looking for a family to look after him in his golden years, he still really enjoys going for walks and having a play but then will like to have a good nap – on your lap if you will let him! When Chilli first came to us, he had a lot of problems with his skin, but with some love, medicated shampoos and medication he is really thriving and feeling much better. He loves human company and will take all the fuss and cuddles on offer but nothing for him beats FOOD! Watch where you put your plates and snacks as he will seek them out! Everyone who meets Chilli instantly falls in love; he is a true happy character and will definitely put a smile on your face. Yes, he is an older boy, but he really does have a lot of life left to offer a new family. He is currently in a foster home where he has settled in really well, he has been toilet trained, able to be left for a few hours and even lives with a rabbit – although he does enjoy having a bark at them.

Grace, a 6 months old female Pug X Chihuahua available for adoption from Safe Rescue For Dogs in Norfolk

Safe Rescue For Dogs

Grace

Norfolk
SexFemale
Age6 months
BreedPug X Chihuahua

Grace is a small crossbreed (possibly pug chihuahua in the mix?) aged around four years old. living with a cat. Needs resident dog(s). Adult only quiet home. Grace has come into our care recently from the Botosani public shelter in Romania. She was terrified in the shelter environment and, although still very timid here, she is gradually progressing in confidence. She will need the company of another dog or dogs in her forever home. Despite being scared she has never so much as snapped at any of us whilst handling her. She is a delicate little soul living in a world of giants that she is only now starting to understand. Grace is not a quick fix and will not be a friendly little lap dog overnight. She needs an adopter that understands that trust takes time to earn when you have only ever been let down and failed by humans. It’s a long road ahead but an incredibly rewarding and worthwhile one. She is tense to the touch and she flinches at sudden movements, there’s a lot of emotional wounds to heal that only time, patience and love can patch up. Grace will need a quiet home environment with no children. She can live with cats and must have at least one dog in full time residence.Grace fostered Poringland NorfolkAdoption Donation Fees are Puppies already neutered and all adult dogs: £430. Un-neutered puppies on spay/neuter contracts: £530 (You will receive a £100 rebate once you send us proof of neutering). Senior dogs (10+ years): £150–£250 (depending on age and individual needs). When you adopt a Safe Rescue dog, you MUST use a slip lead. This will keep your dog safe: your new dog will be nervous and will not trust you, and you will not know which situations might upset your dog. If your dog panics, then a slip lead is the only way to prevent your dog from escaping (many dogs can escape from a collar and/or harness). It will take AT LEAST 3-6 months for your dog to settle-in and for you to know your dog fully (longer for nervous dogs). The slip lead must ALWAYS be used during this settling-in period. Even after your dog is settled, it is safest to use the slip lead in situations where your dog may become scared (e.g. visiting new places, around unfamiliar people, at the vet), and it situations where unexpected triggers might happen (e.g. around bonfire night). Nervous dogs may always need to wear a slip-lead as a back-up safety measure. The slip lead is a safety device and must NEVER be used as a training tool. Using the lead to apply pressure to the dog’s neck is damaging. If your dog pulls on the lead, then we can advise you on training methods that avoid harm. Once your dog is settled, you may want to consider using a harness (together with the slip lead) if your dog is comfortable with being handled when it is fitted. Most harnesses are not escape-proof, but harnesses with a strap behind the ribcage (e.g. Ruffwear Webmaster or Perfect Fit Harnesses) are safer. Retractable / extendable leads must never be used on our dogs. Adopted dogs must be collected from the rescue and transported straight home in a secure metal crate. Fences and gates must be 5foot minimum in height and secure.
